The OT stunt lightsaber blades research thread

Just dont buy those 10-15$ telescopic collapsible fiberglass fly/ fishing rods. Will break with one mild hit! I'm kicking myself for not filming that. Was quite comical. Haha

We were looking at fishing pole blanks actually.

For an experiment, I spent 15 dollars and got a pair of old fiberglass ski poles. Not the correct diameter, but I want to test this material.

thanks mouse, definitely will sport goggles for this one

The ski poles are they too thick or too thin?

I don't have them in hand yet - from the photos they appear to be 14-16 mm poles, and I remember scrolling past loads of these to get my aluminum fat ones.

I have a weird feeling that, if they were found parts, it would explain the highly different kinds we see on set.

Also we may have to account for the reflective paint/material . It MAY appear to make the rods look thicker than they are in certain camera angles

I found this pic it's from behind the scenes on ESB from the ESPN doc evolution of the lightsaber duel clearly they used WOOD in part of the warehouse rehearsal! At least I believe it's the warehouse. I'm also starting to believe we can't trust the sounds of the blade clashes on this video. The ones in jedi and rots and a few others sound exactly the same which is not possible. It seem like the Foley artist
in this doc took some creative liberties on the clash sounds listen to the throne room duel bts then the ROTS rehearsal fight they have the same sound effect!

Link to the video

Wicked picture! I don’t know if I’ve seen this video yet

Here is one that I've not seen before of the V2. Halliwax you might be interested. Look at it flex at the hilt and where it hits the railing.

Does appear to be so. I THINK Halliwax found out this may be the shared stunt in its original form. I have my doubts, because I see emitter dents, like the v2, but it just as easily could be another stunt saber

Looks much too beefy in Hamill's hand to be the V2, and the upper and lower neck of the windvane aren't as tall. That's the V3, IMO. And emitter dents aren't difficult to straighten out. You just need something level and an a small rubber mallet.

You tease you tease!! Lol

That is the v3, the v2 at this time has already had its blade hacked off

This version of the v3 has gaffers tape on its neck like the v2, but under hamills hands the clamp is covered in gaffers tape

At the beginning of the duel, the v3 doesn’t have tape on the neck or clamp

Anyone any ideas on how you can put the weathervane on the p**s while keeping everything else square? I can only think of it being a separate peice but that's at odds with everything know about these hilts.

Strong with a slight flex, here are the ski poles. They are NOT tapered, not sure if that's ski pole design or just this brand. Got a little irritated when I pulled the handles off (glue had deteriorated) so I got work gloves and put gaffer tape on the exposed ends.

Nice Tom! Looks very promising for the screen used materials the color of the fiberglass matches the color of the blades from the warehouse rehearsal unless the silver I'm seeing is not the fiberglass outer layer but the paint/coating graphic for the ski pole and even though this particular set is not tapered I have seen first-hand tapered fiberglass and graphite ski poles that match your aluminum one precisely in diameter I'm thoroughly convinced these as well as fiberglass antennas and possibly fishing poles have got us on the right track to the screen used material
