The OT stunt lightsaber blades research thread

Cool stuff. Here's some pics of vader's stunt blade from ANH if it's helpful.

Greatly helpful. I've not seen any pic's of Vader's blade with the black stripe so clearly defined, at least we now know the hilt with the square 'tsuba' was meant to be a motorised one. The one that broke.

It’s the v2, 100%

Has the mop handle not taught you anything? How do you know it's the V2. This pic has another V2 like hilt I'm fairly sure is not the V2 as it scales too short compared to my solo's hold V2 & gives conflicting scale measures for the blade. I'm fairly sure it's too short by scaling from the graflex clamp. So how do you 'know' that's the V2 ?

I’ve only spent the last 4 years of my pathetic little life examining every little chip nick and dent...

This can be identified as the v2 instantly... I’ll give you a hint, start at the top

This one is also out there, but I can't find the unedited version.

Look folks isn't it about time we set up a lightsaber blade reference thread (sticky?) just for primary info ( no comments allowed )? We've a lot of pic's & 1st person accounts surfacing on this thread but it's all disjointed. I'd be willing to draw up a draft.

So what do you think is on the Alec G pic I posted (#147) ?

*****, thank you for these. Looks like they had reflective material that wasn't wide enough to wrap around the pole there, which tapers evenly from hilt to tip. Unlike the Carbon Chamber duel ones. That bare section would flicker then, if the barbican was able to rotate, but I guess it failed.

I had to use multiple little rubber bands to keep it wrapped so the glue would stick, am I doing something wrong?

halliwax search the Scotchlite product number on Ebay, and theres a picture of rolls of it lit up. its technically grainy, but the grains are so fine it looks smooth.

What sort of glue are you using. I'm going for a spray on contact adhesive (not yet used). I would think a spread on one would be just as useful.

E6000 actually - it was the silicone that I used it for. Epoxy and the like tend to be brittle and resist vibration and forces. Takes 24 hours to cure though.

Whats spray adhesive?

Just had quick look at E6000 as I've not come across this before, wouldn't be my 1st choice for this job as it takes too long to dry, which is your problem.

Spray adhesive is just glue in a spray can, there are lots of dif sorts. Gives a thin even coat. Stuff called 'spray mount' (in UK) might be useful, though I've only used it once a long time ago - late 70's / early 80's in fact. There are also ones used for fixing down carpets & the like. They all seem to be fairly flexible. They are all contact adhesives - Contact adhesives (spray or liquid) are applied to one or both surfaces & allowed to almost dry (nearly touch dry) before items are brought together & they then stick on contact, hence the name. Down side is that's there's not normally much wiggle room to reposition things. Usually pretty quick to use - less than 10/15mins & usually things stick pretty well.

Any glue that states instant grab might also be worth a look.

While talking about glue, just a tip for everyone who may not know, make sure both surfaces are an clean, grease & dust free as you can get them. I wipe with isopropyl alcohol (or methylated spirits) & keep un-gloved fingers off afterwards. It really does make a difference.

I've bought :
500ml Heavy Duty Spray Adhesive Glue for foam, carpet, tile, craft, fabric, packaging | eBay

I hope to be using it soon - I'll update when I have. There are lots of dif brands out there, I'd search spray adhesive or contact adhesive if you can't wait.

I use this stuff, and my plan is to use it for my blades

You can bond any material to each other, I normally use this for headliners for customers vintage cars. Seams like their headliners always sag.. I rip it all off, have new liners made. Spray the glue on the head liner board itself, spray the glue on the unfinished side of the fabric

Wait for both to get tacky, then stick. It’s solid

I did one 67 mustang where the owner wanted to change out the head liner with a over head console... it bonds so well I had to get a new head liner board itself because trying to remove the liner from the board would have destroyed it

I swear by this stuff, but I wouldn’t spray it in doors!! Heavy heavy fumes!!

! Thank you both, I'm learning constantly with these projects. Just learned some more. I've seen that can and walked right by it.

Thinking of laying the next material down, spraying it (and the blade) and laying the blade down ontop of it, at the edge, and rolling them together like a cigar.

Will we have to cut a new shape to the end of the fabric, to hug the taper?

So, this is a pic from the archives book... BAlinger15 mentioned metal on the outside and inside of the connection for blades.

I see a metal collar around the base of this MPP stunt. and the blade & collar are set into the "core"

I haven't seen a collar like that in any of the ESB Graflex stunts (even the one used by Vader in ROTJ). I see on in the ANH Luke/Vader stunt in those promo shots as well. It could be because the Graflex's have a socket still intact, and these MPPs do not. Different set-up?
