The OT stunt lightsaber blades research thread

Thanks for the clarification!

Halliwax - you da man

Makes you wonder if the ROTJ blades were another antenna they could find, skinnier and the like..

RoTJ V3 blade bends like spaghetti when it hits that railing.. I’m so curious on the flex of these cx4 antennas

On that video clip of Roger Christian in the archives there are a few stunt blades on the table. I'm guessing those were leftovers from the OT production. Brandon stated he found 8 or 9 of those lightsaber blades in the archives when he worked on his costume book. I wish we had better pics available, but I have a strong feeling that those blades on the table were used in ESB and ROTJ. Perhaps there were different versions of the antennas involved, too.

You said there is dark material under the paint right? reflective tape aside, I think that may explain those marks

Vadermania any chance you can share a pic of the end once it’s cut off so I can see the fibers

In the latest Gallery / making of Mando episode they talk for a quick second about the OG stunt sabers. I think it's Favreu that says they had ONE that spun in ANH (not sure he'd be the expert) and they show a raw shot of the Obi-Wan/Vader duel. It's a shot we've seen before, but I think the clarity of it was the highest I've seen. You could clearly see the black mark on Obi-Wan's blade as it spun.

Well, at least we know of two special effects sabers in ANH that spun (on screen): Lukes SPFX Graflex and Obi‘s saber.

Haven‘t seen that Making of Mando episode, I can only guess that the raw shot of the Obi/Vader duel originates from 35mm rush prints that were re-transferred to a higher resolution video format in order to keep up with the modern footage.

The first one to mention Star Wars to the supplier gets one of these antennas up the bum. Keep it on the down low guys.
Hm, in this case I don‘t really think do. The newest version of the CX-4 is a mass product and widely available. It‘s more difficult to find the correct old HMP version. I found two old HMP antennas in a relatively short period of time on a German website. I‘m guessing there are many small marinas/harbours where you could find those old antennas stored somewhere.

Yeah. Agreed. And also it's going to be "fun" hunting them down from my North American perspective as they seem to be mostly sold in Europe as we have similar manufacturers here for that specific type of antenna. Never have I wished I lived in Belfast again after discovering this hobby lol. In my scavenging days over there I had no idea about any of this stuff and probably passed over so many good things lol.

I should clarify, I meant black marks on static beater sabers from ESB onward. Those first blades had black paint underneath the tape, naturally would also show similar damage

Does anyone know if there are cheaper alternative brands with the same dimensions?

My goal is... If we can lock this in to the dimensions we need, if there is enough interest having them made out of fiberglass or carbon fiber at cost, not doing a run for profit, just helping this small group of stunt blade maniacs get their fix

Sign me up! I am going to look into alternative antennas maybe I can find something cheaper that's a similar design.

I have posted this link before in earlier discussions. Could this be a possible cheaper alternative?

Looking good to me - one should contact the supplier and ask for measurements - length of the fiberglass part of the antenna, diameter at base of fiberglass part (should be 18mm), middle (15mm) and tip (10mm).
