The Oldest SDStudio Obi EPIV Saber

If Steve want's to confirm it, I believe I'm one of the few with the oldest SD Stutio Obi EPIV saber he made. I got this from him about 12 or 13 years ago. There was no actual graflex clamp on it. The look of the clamp was simulated. And no transistors, no ring of holes in the emitter, no "windvien" viens. The entire piece is machined metal with exception to the "gear" and clamp lever which are both cast resin. I've toyed with the idea of selling it. Although I'm not sre how much this would be worth.

agreed, I would keep it too. Little piece of history if it is in fact a first version of the hilt...nice piece BMS.

Well to be perfectly honest, we had quite a bit a financial issues lately and I would seriously consider selling it for the right price. Someone over on RS said he'd think it would be worth somewhere in the 450-800 range.

I'm not sure I'm recalling correctly or not, but I seem to remember a handful of SD Obi's going for around $800 on eBay... usually to Japanese prop collectors.

I think it looks alot like mine. I bought it from Universal Armorer maybe thirteen or fourteen years ago. It is solid aluminum, linked by threaded hex-ended rod.

If you like, I can post better pictures. But there is no lever on the clamp, no vertical cuts on the grenade, and really, it is quite beautiful.

I put two bumper-buttons on it myself after I bought it. Also weathered it a little bit. I love this thing.

That actually looks like it was intended to be a Luke ROTJ saber if you ask me.

Actually, when I bought it, the illustration in the UA catalog had a different, more cone shaped emitter. I was a little pissed when I got it till I watched the movie a bit more and realized that it was as accurate as I could hope for at the time. Definitely sold and purchased as an Obi-wan. I put the buttons and covertec knob on later, to greeblie it up a bit.

Here are a couple more photos. Did Universal Armorer produce these, or contract them out? I see definite similaritoes in my emitter and yours, as well as the clamp's overall 'feel'.

Anyone have any ideas about this?

Universal Armor was nototious for false claims, recasting and a few other unethical practices. They may have advertised it as an Obi but my first reation to seeing it was that it was originally intended to be a Luke ROTJ. Just my .02

It's OLD. Not accurate. I'm cool with that.

But it is definitely NOT a luke ROTJ. I saw the Luke ROTJ in the catalog, and opted not to buy it. I bought it long before the was a Parts of Star Wars, or a Chronicles book, or anything other than my EXTREMELY old VHS tapes for my own personal reference, so I am happy with it.

I'm not going to debate this one, BM. I'm not here to hijack your thread, but I would like to know if the guy that made MINE was the same guy that made YOURS. Any ideas about that at all?

No, SDStudios never would have made anything that innaccurate to the screen-used items. I will grant him that much credit.

It's not a piece of junk by any means, but it is not screen-accurate enough to have been made by the same individual that made the one in the original post in this thread.

It's becoming more and more tempting to put this up on ebay. I start a new job tomorrow but we really need to take care of things now. Oy vey.

I'd like to see what it goes for. With all the great replica parts coming out, I can't see it going too high though. $800?? I'm looking at eBay's past auctions. I can't believe it!

Good Luck

No my friend...No...Keep it!
You wont get nearly as much as you want from it...and it's truly a gem in your collection!

I think you may regret selling it.
There are a few that I've had to sell and...Yes, I regret it!

Concerning the Universal Armorer Obi-wan above...my first thought was that this is obviously a Luke Jedi too...The Grenade section screams Luke...but then I saw it...the GEAR!!!
That tells me that it was intended as an Obi.

They probably didn't have the means to mill the vertical cuts...and the pommel looks like a sink knob. I dont have a clue about the gear though.
had they been able to mill the gear, they should have been able to mill the grenade...
*shrug*
It's also a cool piece of saber history :)
