The Official Boycott Star Wars Bluray thread

Completely serious. Plenty of entertainment for that amount of money. Much better than paying to go to a football game that I can watch on TV for free. I've already paid Comcast, so that would be a waste. Also, beer is cheaper at Kroger than it is at the stadium.

I'm actually coming out ahead if you do the math.

Or you could rent the special features discs for considerably less... I mean, are you really gonna watch them over and over? If so, then hey, go for it. You're probably right that it's a good deal on that score. But for me, I usually watch those kinds of things maybe twice at most. Hell, I still haven't watched the extras on the LOTR Extended Edition discs!

Yes I bought this set, because I'm a fool and love collecting things. I'm not always pleased with what Lucas changes, but love certain other changes. At least star wars is still alive. Like, who cares about lord of the rings or the matrix anymore? Even if some changes are controversial, I still think it all together helps the franchise stay alive, toys and collectibles come out, tv shows, celebrations and the 501st.

Some changes that I love: tpm yoda puppet replaced with cg yoda, better death star attack fx in anh, better fx all around...

Anyway the blu ray saga set is worth it for me for the extras if nothing else.

Well, that's fine and dandy, and you're welcome to your opinion, but there's plenty of folks who at this point have the attitude that "more" does not necessarily equal "good."

I mean, ask yourself something: why is it a "good" thing that the franchise "stays alive"? I don't mean that in a snarky way, I mean it genuinely.

Is it such a bad thing to ONLY have the films? Does the merchandising machine NEED to keep pumping out product? I mean, I guess if you enjoy all the stuff that comes out, then you wouldn't want it to stop. But what if you don't enjoy the new stuff that much? Bully for you that you do, but there are plenty of folks who don't.

I think that the central complaint in this particular thread is not "OH NO!! Not MORE new stuff..." and more "Not MORE new stuff while he refuses to re-release an archival version of the old stuff..." Nobody in this thread, I think, would begrudge fans from continuing to enjoy whatever other product LFL puts out. They just want the stuff that THEY enjoy, which is the non-special-edition versions of the films, cleaned up in an "archival" version the same way every other film that gets converted to Blu-Ray gets (or better).

If you dig the extras, you dig the changes, you dig the fixes, etc., well then awesome. I don't think you're a fool. It's worth it to spend the money if that's the end result. I don't, however, share your taste in entertainment on this point. I think the disconnect here is that for many many people it is simply no longer worth it to settle for a bunch of extras and six other discs they'll probably never watch because they aren't the movies they're looking for.

I'd also point out that hopping in on a thread like this and saying something like "God, what a bunch of whiny bitches!" or whathaveyou, is about as constructive and useful as someone hopping in some thread titled "I LOVE The New Star Wars Blu Rays!" and saying something like "God, what a bunch of mindless sheep!" Neither will receive a particularly warm welcome.

Maybe technology will get to the point where we can order a copy of Star Wars and tick off boxes of the changes we want and don't want and it will be automatically produced for us.

For a little bit extra, there could be something like the "Elf Yourself" options and we can all put ourselves or our favorite stars in the roles of the different characters.

Looks like they're already selling the bonus disc only on eBay

These aren't the links you're looking for

Okay, edited :)

I don't mean to say anything bad about anybody's opinion. In any case there are massive extremists on both ends. I just want to provide a perspective from someone who owns the blu-rays (and I agree that a vader No and the Jedi rocks in jabbas palace alterations for example are the worst things ever) to whomever is on the fence on the matter. Does star wars look better than I have ever seen it? Yes. Did I enjoy watching deleted scenes that I've been waiting for all my life? Yes. Did I enjoy some new and old documentaries? Yes. Do I still have a ton of (hopefully) entertaining extras to work through? Yes. Do I hate the alterations? Actually, I don't know yet. I'll have to get back to you on that (original trilogy is this weekend). Maybe I'll come back swearing a bunch, haha! Or maybe I'll resort to watching rotj on DVD instead.

That technology already exists, it's called Bluray. Have you seen the Star Trek TOS Blurays? You can select the remastered CGI effects or the original effects. This could be done with Star Wars, select the original or the special ed edition. All it takes is for GL to do it
