The Official Boycott Star Wars Bluray thread

Nicely done Rad, and by the way not all Star Trek fans are mensa material either.

Is that what this costume is made of? Mensa material?

Something weird about Episode III though in that because it looks so tack sharp it almost looks like a Clone Wars episode in HD!

Just watched Episode I and II and this is also noticable with Episode II. I thought I was either watching a video game or some HD TV show and not a movie.

I know what you mean - but I had that feeling 2002 and 2005 in the theater... watching a video game that is!

Yeah, not only are the stories mainly flat and soul-less, despite their attempts at emotional profundity, but the look of AOTC and ROTS is soul-less. Real film has a warmth and depth to it that is just more appealing. Lucas should know that the medium itself has emotional impact, and that over-polished art risks losing any charm whatsoever.

Yeah all that "I'll catch it on youtube" stuff.... Can't say that stuff looks as nice as actually having the Blu-Ray. The bonus stuff alone is worth the price I think. There's an overwhelming amount of stuff to be seen on these discs, especially the models and props as others have echoed.

I downloaded 1080p versions from youtube of the cut scenes for free :thumbsup

Its not like you need Hi-Def to watch clips that are bad colored, scratched, black and white and some with no sound.:rolleyes

That clip of Leia and Luke about to tongue each other was a little creepy.

Really you needed the discs to see pictures of the props?

Did you find pics on the discs you couldn't find on this board or by just doing a Google search? See anything revolutionary in the world of Star Wars props. Just curious.

Please do tell.

As for the audio commentary, does anyone really need to listen to GL spew more revisionist history. That was a rhetorical question.

Sounds like the only person your trying to convince it was worth the money is yourself :D

My husband describes the change like this -

Imagine your favorite comedy, a comedy that changed the way all comedy's were done. And there is a line in it that makes you laugh every time you watch it, and you still remember that first time when it was so unexpected and spoken just perfectly.

And then, in the new release of that movie, for no reason you could figure out, they changed the punchline.

And it wasn't funny anymore.

The thing that all the changes boil down to for me is I've seen the original films (OT) many, many times and I'm used to them. So when I watch one of the new versions, the changes stick out and take me out of the movie experience. It doesn't matter even if the change is good or not - it's like hitting a speed bump in the film. And that makes the experience overall not as enjoyable.

That's my biggest gripe. They distract you from the story and your left saying to yourself "Something just aint right here"

memory is context specific. so many more memories of our childhood were tied to the OT. By changing the films lucas has robbed those of us who obsessed over every scene and frame of many of our other contextual memories from our childhood that were married to our OT viewings.

Smells, places, textures all trigger waves of emotion and memories. Star Wars OT was such a major part of my mental development, new changes denies me access to 'portions of my memory' as the scenes that trigger these contextual areas of my brain are by-passed.

i wish someone would explain this to mr. lucas.

Yeah, it's not right, but maybe this is a touch melodramatic? :lol (eloquently written, though)

So that's what Slimer looked like when he was alive.

I know this is in the funny pic thread, but somehow it seems somewhat appropiate for it to be here as well.

I'm not thrilled with the changes he has made, but I still love the saga and will always be greatful for what GL has given us.

Man the negative reviews are lighting up Amazon.com! I wonder if these passionately hateful reviews will hit Lucas' desk and actually get through his thick skull at some point! WOW... So many many people really hating the changes! It's not just the RPF critical movie purist folks! Seems like everyone's got the same opinion!

Exactly.
While I watched Harmy's Despecialized ESB the other day; I couldn't help but have feelings during the Cloud City scenes. Instead of CGI windows, overlooking the city, the alcoves are funky 1970ish art deco stuff.
Made me instantly teleport back to the local shopping mall (that is no longer there) where my Mom used to take me shopping. The designs were similar - the colors - then my brain continued to unlock more memories of the theater that was in that same mall where I saw ESB for the first time.
The smell of the crush velvet ropes...the paneling, the colors...everything..

I don't get that watching the modified versions of the OT.

I cant find neosprings post... But WOW.

You can't hit the nail on the head any harder than that.

:behave

Wake up George. The whole world used to adore you. It's getting close to pitchfork n torches time. "we know you got those original prints in there Georgie! Toss em out and no one has to get hurt... too bad."

Spielberg was asked about changing movies, and more specifically what GL has been doing. He said that movies are a reference to their time period, and become a part of our history, mistakes or lack of technology included. He said that it is best to leave them alone as they mark our culture from that time period. Then he was asked if he could have a talk with GL about it, and he said that even he could not get through to him.

Ironically, Spielberg changed a few things in ET, though I think most people will agree that they were so subtle, someone who hadn't seen it for a long time might never notice.

I can't bring myself to purchase the blue-ray saga. I saw the NOOOOO at the end of ROTJ on youtube, and that is enough for me leave it alone.
