I love it when people think they can speak for the masses.

"Most" people think this, "nobody" thinks that way.

One thing is for sure, "most" people have never agreed on anything.

Oh for...! OK, you got me, lazy phrasing, I deserved that, yadda yadda.

OTOH, kinda amazing anyone ever wins an election, isn't it?

Well, yeah. Unfortunately, this is the Entertainment section, and trying to turn on Star Wars fans to the RPF by linking to this scintillating discussion would prove counter-productive, I'd wager.

Augh! :p Agreed on the second count. On the first count the Entertainment section may not be THE OT section, but it is AN OT section. :D

I often wonder how it came to be that in almost 30,000 registered members on the site, it looks like I'm the only one who understands micdavis-ese.

Hey - c'mon, man; there's me as well. :) I just don't agree with this particular stance of MD's, in the same way I don't agree with your stance on non-anonymity.

Can George Lucas digitally remove Jar Jar Binks from the new releases?

Already done; try The Phantom Edit.

Good grief! People were up in arms about that? I hear Shatner.

No, originally there was going to be an intrusively obvious cameo in a toilet, involving them dressed as clone troops. IIRC.

(It that's true it's proof that bitching and whining CAN WORK.) :lol

Thumbwars for the win, absolutely. :thumbsup

I forgot the other reason when I posted in this thread, I don't have a bluray machine.Dohhhh:behave

I don't either, but I was pretty certain this BR release would be the reason I finally broke down and bought one. Oh well, not only 90 bucks saved, but another 150 or whatever the BR would have run me.

It's funny, but one of the few things that DOES excite me about this release is the edges being restored to TPM. I hated that when Maul force-grabbed that debris and chucked it at the door mechanism, you couldn't really see what was happening on the DVD. But my love/hate relationship to the prequels isn't strong enough to cause me to buy that set on its own, so...:unsure

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I'm with Nwerke. This entertainment forum is totally an OT section.

Yes, such a narrow view. You got me. I'm a phillistine because I'm not an early tech adopter. Clearly I have no respect for the art of film.

...what the hell, dude? Get out of bed the wrong side today?

How to Train Your Dragon is the movie which tipped me into buying a 3d TV...care to give us any divinations from that?

All these posts about a Blu Ray release and you dont even own a machine?
Fascinating.

***** ******, did you read the post? I was LIKELY GOING TO BUY ONE for this release.

So it all hinges on one movie trilogy, such a narrow view of cinema.

I think it's a bit unfair to say that Cayman's opinions are invalid because he doesn't own a player (yet).

I would imagine that while the Star Wars Trilogy would have been the catalyst for him to purchase a player, it certainly would not have been the only Blu Ray set in his film library.

I myself was dead set against buying a Blu Ray player for no other reason than not wanting to have to replace my collection of films all over again (which I did when I switched from VHS to dvd).

However the one Blu Ray release I looked forward to was the Alien Anthology boxset a couple of years ago. I didn't own a Blu Ray player yet but planned to buy one specifically because of the Anthology (just like the position Cayman is in now with SW).

I was terribly excited because I had participated in a film project that was being submitted for the "fan appreciation" extras section of the "Aliens" disc. In other words I was going to be a part of the Anthology!

But... the film submitted was one of many and was unfortunately rejected. So my hopes of being a part of the boxset were crushed. I no longer wanted the boxset so badly, and since I had still not purchased a Blu Ray player yet, this changed my mind about buying one (much like Cayman).

So I totally understand where he is coming from in this thread.

My Son in Law actually ended up buying me a BR player for Christmas last year. I still haven't purchased the Alien boxset to this day (waiting for a decent sale price), but am very glad to own many other movies on Blu Ray. :)

I have Tron: Legacy and Iron Man 2 on Blu-Ray and I don't own a BR player so obviously I have a greater appreciation of cinema than Cayman. :lol
