The Official Boycott Star Wars Bluray thread

Well if walked into a pub and there were a bunch of people ranting about insignificant stupid crap, I'd turn around and walk out.

And that's what happens, I hear non-members say that all the time, when I try and get people to come to this site.

Is that what we want for the RPF?

I know I don't.

I can believe that, but I don't think it has anything to do with this thread....

That's what people do at times in the pubs. People get together and gripe: politics, local happenings, the foibles of both celebrities and friends, our families, whatever. We also laugh a great deal over our cocktails, as we have managed to laugh in this thread as well. With bemusement, yes, sometimes with bitterness, but such is life. And if you think this is insignificant and stupid, why not just save yourself some time and quote reply yourself, as you've expressed the identical sentiment several times? Those who support this thread obviously disagree, and the above comment borders or trolling.

Well the way I see it. Your constant commenting on my comments is the trolling. You should learn what a real troll does. An opposite opinion is not trolling.

Why don't you put me on YOUR ignore list.

The way you guys constantly argue FOR negativity really does amaze me.

I don't ignore people just because I disagree with them, as a rule. And we'll have to agree to disagree on what constitutes "trolling." But you are right, I should probably not respond to your comments as often as I do. Having said that, you are a strongly opinionated person who often expresses his opinion as absolute truth. It's only natural other strong-minded people are going to stand up and argue with you now and then.

I don't see this thread as negative. It is a positive affirmation of the series we love, and a lament for what's lost. Mourning isn't negative, and protesting is a positive thing as well, ofen as not. Furthermore, protesting gets results.

And before you write off protesting as "whining," let's consider some good old fashioned American history here. We're a nation founded on dissention, and the heart of democracy is informed, well-reasoned protest against perceived injustice or incompetence.

Aaaand before you tell me a movie and the American Revolution are not in the same league, yes I get that. I'm just saying the soul of America is rebelliousness and a desire to right wrongs (not slighting or excluding international members from this sentiment here, just expressing my heritage as I see it). As a New Englander I'm often a stubborn traditionalist, which might seem counter to the spirit of protest, but when you see people going down a path you can't agree on, the two ideals can merge.

No doubt those last two paragraphs will seem hyperbolic to you and elicit a condescending eye-roll. So be it. I see something I perceive as wrong, I seek to redress it. That is not negative, or whiney. I don't care if you're Martin Luther King or a passionate Star Wars fan, whether your cause is significant or trivial. Raising awareness and registering your dissention is a deeply positive activity. From my point of view, you are painfully complacent.

But as I said, we might have to agree to disagree. I highly doubt we'll see eye to eye here.

I heard it from a reliable source he's working on a Special Edition of the prequels to come out in 2014, with the intent of making them suck less.

Once the less desirable scenes are excised from the prequels, insiders estimate the running time should be approx. four minutes for each film. :)

Where do we get these 720p despecialized versions to watch on our home theater systems?

Me too!!! I want them!!

Google is your friend - "Harmy" and "despecialised editions"

:lol I defy anyone not to laugh out loud.

In the OT? Yes please, that's exactly how I like it. Like settling down into a drinking session with a bunch of mates.

The way you guys constantly argue FOR negativity really does amaze me.

And yet nobody perceives you as exactly being Mr. Positive around here, man. The Lucas anti crowd sets off the exact same impulse in you that Lucas himself sets off in them.

I love it when people think they can speak for the masses.

"Most" people think this, "nobody" thinks that way.

One thing is for sure, "most" people have never agreed on anything.

Well, yeah. Unfortunately, this is the Entertainment section, and trying to turn on Star Wars fans to the RPF by linking to this scintillating discussion would prove counter-productive, I'd wager.

He's not saying "most people have never agreed on anything;" he's saying "'most' people have never agreed on anything."

That is, that when someone puts forth the old saw about "most people" it's usually a personal bias or perception based on anecdotal and not empirical evidence.

I often wonder how it came to be that in almost 30,000 registered members on the site, it looks like I'm the only one who understands micdavis-ese.

Pixar can make digital characters funny, so why not asign them to re-do Ja Ja.....I'm thinking it's the voice that mainly fails. It needs a better voice, maybe Fez forn the Seventies show?

The Hitler clip recycle is pretty funny, but getting old when they keep using that same clip for many other things.

Yep six out of ten people don't agree with the other four.

... based on anecdotal and not empirical evidence.

Going to the Empire again for evidence, that stuff is all made up by Vader and his stooges, now anecdotal reports, how can you not take the word of a fish that can walk?
