The Official Boycott Star Wars Bluray thread

??? Again, this thread, as the name suggests, is a rant, rave and rage thread. A 'boycott' thread. The majority of people posting here have behaved as one would expect from adults at a pub ranting over a pet hate while downing a beer or two. It's actually the pro-Lucas posters who are being the more offensive IMO. Name calling in a generic rant thread against an outside entity which will NEVER participate or experience hurt feelings is one thing; abusing members of this forum for expressing their points of view is another thing altogether.

Abso-flippin'-LUTEly. It needs to be repeated - we're just blokes in the pub ranting about a pet hate while downing a pint or two. Lucas/Hollywood etc. are monoliths, we're ants. No harm in ants blowing raspberries at monoliths. However, the perceived insinuation, through terms like 'hater', that members are somehow sociopathic depressive misanthropes just for saying they think Lucas is a knob, is rather less innocuous, especially this insistence on the highly emotive term 'hater' when the less insulting 'knocker' or 'whinger' or 'critic' or 'detractor' will do. I've said it before, but 'hater' has a built-in resonance with serious evils like hate-crime, racism etc. Wanting to shake Lucas or Hollywood by the collar - or even give them a kick in the hyperbolix - does not equate with these. Please.

There's a third group, too. The ones like me, who are in the middle, and are more or less indifferent to the whole thing. I'm not pro-Lucas, I don't believe in the whole "these are his movies and he can do what he wants" thing. And I do agree that he's being awfully stubborn about the unaltered OT. But neither am I a "hater" who will boycott the release.. I'll buy it, and I'll enjoy it for what it is.

This describes my view also..

Wow he really seems bitter about CGI. I bet there were people sounding like that when soundfilms took over in the 1930s.

As for Mos Eisley, I'll take the new version every day of the week. Same with the Battle Of Yavin. I like to watch the old version sometimes, as the studio models look so good, but the scenes dont look good enough with today standards.

Lol. Every story needs a protagonist and an antagonist, it's good that you have a view that opposes the direction of the initial post.

The way I look at the CGI issue is like this.

I go to see a live magic show and I'm inpressed because I know somehow Iv'e been tricked but cant tell how. I know it's real, I'm impressed by the skill of the deception.
That's been a key element to cimena also.

Once you throw computers into the mix then the fun has gone out of it to a large degree.

Case 1:
Did you know they built a scale model of the Star Destroyer and ran a 50mm lens right along the keel on a motorised track?
Wow really? crazy ba%4##@!

Case 2:
Did you know they did that in CG.
Oh, yeah , computers are great.

^ Yeee-haaaaa! Great! Have you seen that one where Vader's dialogue is replaced with that of some foul-mouthed cockney thug from 'Snatch'? I was crying with laughter, but had to turn it off instantly in case it forever ruined the film for me.

The great thing is those "death screams" were probably real and not so much an actor acting- I think I read that the pyrotechnic explosives used in the cockpit were a helluva lot louder/brighter/scarier than the actors expected. :eek

I'll I have to say is that I'll take a pass on this set. Uninterested in supporting further "artistic choice" or continuing development of my favorite movies. I liked them as they were, and I don't care to financially support any endeavor to change them or make them "better" than they were when I fell in love with them.

Well if walked into a pub and there were a bunch of people ranting about insignificant stupid crap, I'd turn around and walk out.

And that's what happens, I hear non-members say that all the time, when I try and get people to come to this site.

Is that what we want for the RPF?

I know I don't.
