The Official Boycott Star Wars Bluray thread

George can fiddle with his movies all he wants. We can still give our opinions on his choices. Some people seem to miss that point.

I'm sorry but, when did he ever promise not to make any changes? When did he lie?
Why this unnecessary hostility?

He promised in the early 90's there would be no prequels, about DVD releases and a slew of other things. He said and promised, He was done with it and moving on to other things.

There are millions of people dressing like the characters from this movie. If He makes Jedi's wear 10 foot tall hats, are you gonna go get one, or express your displeasure?

Chiming in with "get over it" comments is probably not going to be met with a lot of support in an outrage thread.

It's even more hilarious when a mod who's never had any interaction with you whatsoever in the entire time you've been a member of the community sends you that PM message, too. "Not met with a lot of support" indeed. :lol

Is there a source for this promise? Somehow, I doubt he used the word "promise."

great quote from aicn talkback
The genius young anti-establishment filmmaker who created THX-1138, American Grafitti and Star Wars was abducted by aliens and replaced with a senile, money-driven soulless old man with ADD and a deep hatred towards his fans . R.I.P. Star Wars.

Just using it as a reason I find him repulsing. I have no proof other than my own personal experience hearing him in an interview say those exact words. It stuck with me for decades.

and dont forget the 9 parts, make that 12, make that 9, all hell, lets just say 6 movies.

If ever there was any proof that the emperor has no clothes, this is it. Lucas got lucky early in his career and trapped lightning in a bottle. Everything AFTER Star Wars (A New Hope) succeeded in spite of him, not because of him, and because of the success of Star Wars. He's ridden those coat tails ever since, and since then man, it has been one long fecal parade on celluloid.

I expected exactly this, but hoped against all that I was just being paranoid. Now that it's actually come to fruition, I'm certainly not surprised, but the level of my disgust is beyond measure. I can no longer hear the man's name without wanting to drop an axe kick into his collar bone.

Respect the man? For what he did in 1977...sure. But, like Chuck Weppner "knocking down" Ali, what has he done since that comes close. Talented?....not since 1977.

It's a disgrace and practically a deliberate, giant middle-finger to the fans that made him a billionaire. Right back at you, George. How any fan of film, let alone Star Wars, can not be disgusted and put off this nonsense is beyond me. It's inexcusable and indefensible.

Yeah, I'm wondering if George is a real Cinema fan.
You can tell that Spielberg is, but George, I think maybe he's a gear head first and a businessman second.
George gets the technical side of film making, but I don't think he feels the spirit of the medium the same way Spielberg does.
On the plus side, he created a massive mechanisim to allow creative people to put their artistic skills to commercial use. Hey, you gotta eat.
I'm thinking that George ditched his love affair with cinema in Tunisia as he felt those chest pains. Spent the rest of his effort being a good businessman.

I just want to say; god dang, give it a rest! For crying out loud what's so friggin wrong? Imo, if George Lucas wants to fiddle with HIS movies, he is more than allowed to. I didn't know there was such childish hate on this forum. Talking about boycotts and riots? Kicking George in the nuts? What the hell? Grow up. The day you guys write the script and direct a movie in the same caliber as Star Wars, you may damn well do whatever you want with it but please stop being such kids about this.
If you think it's the end of the world, then don't buy the blu-ray and find yourselves some nice VCRs instead. For me, I still like it, no matter what because it's not all about what the lines are or the effects or what changes has been made since the last time. It's the feeling and the memories behind all this that makes it so unique.
Thank you.

Well said.:thumbsup

People are just venting. No one really means George any harm. People expected a Blueray Star Wars to be Star Wars in higer definition.

You know, Star Wars but clearer, so we could see the props better.

Now it turns out it's a clearer version of Star Wars(alternate).
So the expectation and the reality do not match, we get a bit of venting as compensation.

Okay. Instead of threats of violence let's address the problem from a practical stand point.

The GOAL , an HD transfer of the Original 1977 70MM with six channel dolby sound. Right.

So is it possible to just cut the SE into the "right" version? No I bet.

How much sceen time changes?

Really the only footage that needs re-processing in any fashion is whatever is missing of the original cut not present in the SE.

How much footage is that? I bet it's under 10 minutes.

So do that, cut it into your own BR at home and you're done.

That's got to be easier than all this nonsense.

You guys are just going about it all wrong.

That's a change I haven't heard about.
Exactly what I thought. :lol

Many of the changes, I don't mind. They fix some continuity and make some stuff look better. But some stuff is just plain silly. I mean, making Ewoks blink? I found that very distracting when watching the clip. Fett's new pansy-a** voice, what's up with that? Fine, he wants to use the voice from the prequals, but at least get a decent voice performance out of him, and add the d**n voice filter! Oh, and all the added slap-stick comedy of cgi-characters falling down random places, give me a break. And of course the small detail of Greedo shooting first...

Edit: Completely forgot about putting the whiny brat in at the end of rotj... couldn't let that thought go un-published once I had it.
