Someone already posted it. Her X-Wing explodes in a line of expositionThe question now becomes what do they do with her character, ie. How do they write her off the show?
Kill her off? A throw away line about how she's living out her life on some nowhere system?
I want to see Gina Torres come in and play the character Brand from the Twilight Company novel. She’s basically everything they wanted Cara to be and it would be cool to see a crossover into live action. My guess is that they will write off the character in a pretty minimal way. I don’t think we’ll see any sort of emotional death scene, as the logistics of it wouldn’t really work.
After that, I wonder if there will be a new character introduced who fits pretty much the same mold- some sort of tough ex-Rebel woman. That would be a way to continue with whatever role Dune was supposed to have, without having to figure out casting someone new.
That hasn't happened in this scenario though. This isn't really any different to what has been happening for a long time, in regards to making public statements that a company a person works for, considers it contrary to their values and standards, yet the world hasn't ended, and nobody cried about "free speech".
To clarify, I do not agree with other scenarios with genuine attempts to.silence people, but this isn't one
Daisy Ridley has the right idea: Daisy Ridley Does Not Plan on Returning to Social Media (<- LINK)
Like Psab keel said here, I don’t blame her. If it weren’t for convenience of staying in contact with some people I’d have no way of doing otherwise, I’d have deleted it a long time ago.If it weren't for the convenience of long range contacts I've made whether it's friends or prop groups, I would have deleted Facebook years ago. I really have to get off there for good at some point.
I would say she returned to her home planet but...uh...erm...
Understood what Gina was referring to, but it was ultimately completely simplistic and historically ignorant.I wasn't speaking directly to Gina's firing, but to the general mindset, and the current trend.
The recent acceleration/expansion of "cancel culture" is extremely dangerous. And the problem in this specific case may not ultimately lie with Disney, but with the fans calling for her firing. Ironically, that's exactly what Gina was pointing out in the post in question.
Nobody at Disney seemed to care when Pedro Pascal made a holocaust comparison.Has comparing anything to the Holocaust ever gone well for someone. Yet people keep doing it for some reason.
Sort of reminds me of Cynthia Rothrock back in the 80's and 90's. No one watched her for her superb acting skills, we just wanted to see her kick some ass.she had the acting range of a potato
But she’s really not that good at stunts either…stunt work is not the same thing as being a wrestler…Sort of reminds me of Cynthia Rothrock back in the 80's and 90's. No one watched her for her superb acting skills, we just wanted to see her kick some ass.
And should the threshold for having your life completely destroyed rest entirely on the elegance as to how you express your point?Understood what Gina was referring to, but it was ultimately completely simplistic and historically ignorant.
A person who does publicly post making the same point multiple times, but with genuine clarity and incisive insight is Tim Kennedy. Gina did it quite clumsily unfortunately.
As an aside, I do see a lot of well known people in the world decry people trying to "cancel" them, without the merest hint of irony that they are on tv saying it. That irks me, as it reduces the impact those who are genuinely being hounded etc, should be making by pointing it out.
