Seems like the exact same thing that happened with Megan Fox in TRANSFORMERS. Wasn't the greatest actress, had a rep for being a bit of a diva, said her audition consisted of Michael Bay asking how her stomach looked, kinda talked junk about the movies, etc. All that flew right by, then, she equated Michael Bay with Hitler, & Spielberg fired her that day.

I think anyone as privileged as actors are, to compare ANYTHING in their lives to what happened in that era is going to be automatic career suicide.

That’s the rub though, it’s really up to them if they want to have a bias. We’ve given businesses a lot of rope in that department, and until Gina is actually being arrested by the GOVT for what she’s saying then it isn’t a violation of her rights.

Regardless of how you feel, I can understand Disney trying to protect their brand from controversy. It is all because of Twitter outrage. They "fired" James Gunn for Twitter outrage so we shouldn't be surprised.

I feel like it is only a matter of time when some Mandalorian viewers discover the stand-up comedy of Bill Burr for the first time (c.f. Philly rant) and get outraged enough to hashtag on Twitter. I think Bill Burr is hilarious, but if that day comes and Disney decides to fire him I will be miserable about it as well.

any sort of casual comparison of the Holocaust to anything else is so clearly a societal minefield that I find it impossible to believe she didn’t consider that this was the likely end result. You just don’t go there. With anything. I think, for whatever reason, she got what she wanted.

Now if you really want to not be a hypocrite, Pedro Pascal must be fired. He has posted some of the most offensive and hateful things that are 1000 × worse then what Gina may have posted. I unfortunately cannot post them here but if you pm me I can show you where to find them.

This is true, but discussing the difference (if there is one) here is something we can’t really do.

Speaking to the thread as a whole, I don’t think anyone here has said anything that’s against forum rules, but I would say that we are treading closer to things that will probably be deemed problematic. It’s definitely going to be a better idea (and more interesting, no?) to discuss how this changes the show going forward, rather than continuing to relitigate the decision. The “why” and whether or not we believe it’s a good decision are two things that lead us into dangerous waters.

Yes, it's against this board's rules to go too far toward a political discussion...I think that her last post was controversial for the fact that, usually, the Holocaust is viewed as an untouchable subject. But her idea/point was that if today, we censor/cancel a political view and probably a job ,the slippery slope could be worse in the future...hence the Jewish comparison, but not the best comparison.

Moving away from the political discussion, I was honestly deeply surprised when S1 aired and people were gushing over her character and performance. Like, really? Her character was a flat, Sarah Conner from Dark Fate stereotypical “badass female” character with not really anything beyond that. And her performance was really only serviceable at its best and cringey at its worst to me. Just bad all around. But I guess she struck a chord in enough people that they kept her around for more episodes.

I think I liked the idea of her character more than the actual execution. I hate recasting of a character like this (as compared to my opinion on recasting Luke) so I’m really curious to see what they do with her. I guess if you want to give weight to her character and relationship with Mando then you can have her get smoked by some scum which leaves him to go avenge her. It’s a mucky situation anyway you slice it.

Yeah, I think recasting is very unlikely. I think audiences today wouldn’t have accepted recasting Rhodes for the second Iron Man, or even recasting Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies. If those were made today I’d bet they’d have done some VFX to bring back Richard Harris. People get really attached to characters now in a way that it’s harder to accept that it’s the same character but a different actor. Again, look at Solo. I liked Solo. I didn’t need him to be Harrison Ford. I thought Alden did a good job, and that he seemed like a believable younger version of the character. Not quite as capable, a little too confident. But for some, the casting was wrong and the movie was pointless. Sure, I would’ve liked to have seen the Lord & Miller version of the movie, because they’ve proven they can make even concepts I find dumb work, but ultimately I enjoyed the movie nonetheless.

If they had any sense of humor, they would show her in a wide shot and have a ship in orbit shoot her, leaving a small crater, ala the destruction of the Razor Crest.

As for the news about Gina, well without breaking the rules myself here, what she said/wrote, did fall into the realms of taking the point too far. As well as being historically ignorant.

As much as it can be decried that she was fired for it, it is hardly a new phenomena that a person's words on social media can be used to terminate their employment.
