The Mandalorian (TV series)

Right there at the end...

l was watching on my phone - looked to me like at the end Moff Geideon was looking over a batch of Death troopers in hopes of upping their midichlorian counts? Per the holo video they are out of material

Evidently they are Dark Trooper bots.

Also:

Evidently those are Snoke clones in the lab??

God, I hope not.

If they do something to the Baby to bring back Palpatine, I will personally light Disney World on fire.

Don't want to trip anyone up so I'll ask first -
Spoiler discussions here ok or is there another thread?
From what we've been doing, we use spoiler tags for a day or two and then it's full-on-don't open this thread if you don't want to get massively spoiled

So,
the clones thing and the Dark troopers are separate projects right? They want the child for the clones and the dark troopers are just ready to go, right?

And what's with the new republic medal??? Is that from some videogame or something?

Another great episode. I liked how they've incorporated two more vehicles previously only seen in either TCW of Rebels. I have a certain fondness for that troop transport, even though I remember not particularly liking it as a kid since it wasn't in any of the movies. Then there's the Imperial light cruiser, nice to see something besides a Star Destroyer in a live action production. Ever since seeing both the Gozanti and the light cruiser, I actually prefer both of them over the ISD, I guess mainly because they're not (yet another) Star Destroyer variant.

Well, considering one of the show runner's background is entirely from cartoons...it's only natural that it can read that way.

I also think they're trying to play with a very delicate balance between kid-friendly and adult, to adhere to both audiences.

The acting doesn't have to be incredible for SW. It's all about the artistry, story telling and action. I like how people think the OG trilogy had Oscar worthy performances...

I think they’re one and the same, but I guess time will tell.

I fail to see how that's relevant when for good or ill the show should be judged on its own merits. Especially when you consider it has nothing to do with those original movies other than taking place in the same universe so it's not like you can even argue the acting has precedent to be bad. To me that kind of comment is merely to deflect any form of criticism, no matter how minor and one I'm frankly getting pretty tired of.

I personally thought the performances in this episode were good especially Carl Weathers and the Child. Wow was that chase rad! I actually rewatched it a few times to get all the details. Very well executed action sequence and very entertaining! I overall enjoyed this episode. The child was hilarious too and I enjoy seeing his little personality come through. I didn't know what to expect given the last episodes appearance of CW characters and I hope the story stays focused on Mando and doesn't turn into CW or Rebels 2.0.

That was easily the best episode yet in terms of pacing, character moments and action. If they can keep that momentum going I may just find myself becoming truly invested emotionally in this show. Thus far I have been more than happy to be proven wrong about Disney Star Wars when it comes to The Mandalorian and I hope they continue to bring me back into the fold by making good content.

The Child was definitely channeling Baby Groot in this episode. Not in a bad way but it was really apparent to me.

I thought Weathers did a great job with this episode, like you said the pacing was really great and it felt like a mini movie more than any of the other episodes to me. The amount of momentum and varied scenery that we got was incredible.

Yeah, I'm not deflecting, since SW fans seems to be so critical of everything but the originals. That's where I'm coming from. The acting has been rather low in many of the episodes. That Taro kid from Ep. 5? Horrid. I can criticize a lot else too from the rest of the franchise...

*The Prequels have entered the chat*

Regardless, this show, Rebels and CW really brought me in to SW, while I tended to be on the fringe otherwise. So I'm loving the ride of this show, regardless.

I think some people tend to act as if the SW franchise has stellar acting. While it employs stellar actors from time to time, it's track record isn't the best 100% of the time. No where did I say you shouldn't criticize something, but I can without a doubt say that a lot of fans tend to hold every other piece of SW material in a different regard, aside from the classics.

There certainly have been some questionable performances in The Mandalorian at times and I too can find faults with some of the choices made, whether they are acting or continuity, or writing, though by and large I have enjoyed the show. The flaws I've noticed haven't been so egregious that I was taken out of the story and they felt minor enough to overlook, so I never bothered to point them out, though I will if they do. Which says a lot for a fan like me who has such a scathing hatred for the Sequel Trilogy and a mediocre response to the stand alone films. The fact I am watching this show at all is a surprise, even to me.

I'm not claiming the acting in any of the Star Wars is Oscar worthy either. I'm of the mind that if we are discussing a specific performance, we should judge it on the content of the scene itself, the actor portraying it, and how well it works within the show.

Bringing up the larger aspects of fan perception has merit, so I'm not trying to discount your perspective, but only trying to keep the discussion focused on whether it worked in the episode being discussed. Too often over the years I have found myself going down rabbit holes when it comes to the overall fan perception and I've made a concerted effort lately to rein myself in and keep my points honed in on the topic at hand.

The special effects are what I enjoy from it, they are stunning, oh and Stormies and the episode had both. But as stated earlier I agree the acting is a bit naff at times. The bit when he lands on the planet - the only people you see are in the scene no one else makes it a little flat, no extras wandering about in the background etc when you can see a whole town behind them.

I'm still thinking about that chase. I haven't seen such an engaging action sequence from Star Wars in a long time. Really exciting stuff and it felt organic and real. I LOVE speederbikes. They've been a favorite of mine since I was a kid and they still blow me away with how cool they are. Those shots of them going down the cliff stick out in my mind, especially the fact that a few of them collided with one another and killed the riders. It just sold me on the incidental reality of the danger. Great stuff!

Great episode, I also thought those were Dark Troopers, they looked much taller than the Death Troopers.
