The Mandalorian (TV series)

Tusken cleaning the bantha's teeth and showing them cooking and eating was to humanize them, to show the audience they aren't 100% bad guys, they have normal lives besides terrorizing nearby people. Star Wars tends to humanize villains to a degree where the audience roots for them just as much as they root for the hero.

Can't wait for the new episode! Its almost heeeere!

I think we may have missed spotting the most Fonzie thing ever.

I just watched chapters 1-4 back to back and I really think the show would have benefitted from fewer but longer episodes. The runtime of those 4 together felt very natural. When I watched the first time week to week they felt much too short

Aaah but we wouldn't have time to discuss the minutiae of each episode were it not for such a time span, my friend!
I do like the 20-some runtime, short doses that keep me looking forward to something nice at the end of the week, especially in this gloomy times. And as you say, it does for a nice rewatch back to back when they're all out! Same content but different sensations....
Is the 2x02 episode out yet? :p

So the Tusken Raiders signature weapon is a giant toothpick?

I can just see the Evil Dead crossover meme now.

"This, is my TOOTH Pick!"
I was more bothered by the ballistas. Why on earth does a nomadic desert dwelling kind have ballistas??? That was literally my only nitpick and I didn't get why they didn't feed the booms with the dragon in the first place.
Other than that looking forward to the next one. Happy so far.

After being hounded by friends at work week after week since the show came out, I finally caved and watched it. I also was given access to Disney Plus through a family friend who was kind enough to lend us their code, so getting a free trial was nice. I enjoyed it. It certainly gets better as it goes along and while there are things I can nitpick I think overall it's well done. What is so apparent is that there is a lot of thought, care and genuine love for the world and characters that I can overlook some minor issues I have with the story. What I find most interesting about it is what is not shown but merely hinted at, the power vacuum left after the fall of the Empire and getting a sense of the turmoil that engulfed the galaxy, despite the good intentions of the Rebellion. More credible writers could have explored this on film because it's an area ripe with possibilities, but to their credit the Mandalorian tastefully addresses some of these ideas and incorporates them nicely into the show.

The music feels all over the place as though the composer is trying to experiment with different styles to get it's bearings. Though even this gets better and more consistent feeling as the series goes on. As much as I've griped about Filoni before, I think the collaboration between him and Jon Favreau is a good one and each of the directors per episode have shown so much sincere effort that I truly appreciate. I hope the two of them get to take over Lucasfilm and they kick Kennedy out. At least under their watch Star Wars has a chance to stay relevant and interesting.

As I've said from my initial posts on this I just hope that they try and steer clear of known characters and scenarios as much as possible which will open up the possibilities for the story. The second known characters show up their is an automatic expectation, whether it's fair or not, it's there so it would be wise for them to avoid the situation as much as possible. This show is BY FAR the best thing Lucasfilm has produced since it's acquisition by Disney. Granted they set that bar pretty low in my book, but the Mandalorian is a fun show with potential for growth and a sincerity that is to be admired.

Some will call "The Passenger" filler, but I really liked the episode. They are doing something right, and something that feels very "Star Wars". I mean, I was way more concerned with the well-being of Mrs. Frog and her precious cargo than I was with any of the sequel trilogy characters. The suit/mask/ (maybe cgi enhanced?), character of Mrs. Frog was just incredibly well done. I liked her.

Yup...I can see where some could (& will) say that it's a filler episode, but it developed more character in less than an hour than I've seen in some TV seasons.

There was some definite PT/OT levels of 'acting' here, but I gotta say, it feels very deliberate to me.

I loved seeing McQuarie's work come to life, exactly as he originally painted it. As soon as I saw those eggs, I knew what was coming.

Last thought, evidently, Space X designed the jet pack.. Lol

As I sat here at 5:15am, watching this before the family got up, I realized that this show has become my Saturday Morning Cartoons. Instead of being 9 with a bowl of cereal, I'm 49 with a bowl of cereal & a cup of coffee. Awesome to have this moment of joy in some tough times.

The new episode was not really bad and well made. But its a filler because it brings the Story 0% forwards.
Its a waste of time because we have so much cool persons and storyelements now.
As I heared there is a passenger I was thinking it could be Fett that wants his armor back...but no...only this "frogthing".
Hope the next episode will be better.;)

I was thinking/hoping it could be Fett as well. Think of the tension there'd be if Fett was traveling with Mando & Mando had no idea who it was. Fett just biding his time.

That said, I respectfully disagree that an episode needs to advance the overall story arc to be not a waste of time. I look to 2 of my favorite series, Samurai Jack, & AVATAR: The Last Airbender. Jack's story was that he was trying to get back to the past, but in 5 seasons, only a handful of episodes actually dealt with that mission. Most were just Jack living day to day, but those episodes let you learn who Jack was & ultimately made you care whether he actually did what he was trying to do.

With A:TLA, I've talked with people who followed some online list which supposedly let you know which episodes were considered 'filler'. Almost every time, when I talked them into watching those episodes, they ended up enjoying them & got a little more insight into who the characters were.

Just my POV.

Well, they fight dragons, so making ballistas to do it makes a lot of sense for a people who don't have advanced technology. I imagine they didn't use a bantha with explosives first is because banthas are valuable on Tatooine to both the settlers and the raiders, so they're reluctant to sacrifice them. Imagine being asked to sacrifice your car if you have access to "heavy weapons" like ballistas, and can just bury the explosives and lure the creature over them.

It's their offspring in that jar, right? It's just a background detail but...
The world building of this show is just fantastic! Goes to show, power creep rehashing is not the way to revamp a franchise... you just have to care to be creative enough.
Only 6 weeks left, can't wait!
Well, turns out it wasn't a background detail after all! Loved the episode!
So no Boba...! It's as some of you said, they're just letting us know he's still alive... Now I wonder, is it some sort of teaser for Kenobi's upcoming show?...

Yes that was also exactly what I wanted.Mando and Boba in one ship...and he has no clue how dangerous boba really is.:)

But about the storytelling: Yes your right...but was in this episode anything that brings the charakter on a new level?
Perhaps the "Frog"...but that was really not interesting for me.
Mando was cool like always...and Baby Yoda wants to eat everything...not really new stuff in my eyes.

I completely agree that there wasn't really anything 'new' other than a new character. I guess what I got from it was, he's a bounty hunter/Merc, which almost by definition implies that the credits rule everything. In this episode, his predicament was completely as a result of him giving his word.

He was really doing the mechanic a favor by taking the frog to her destination, cause as a skilled tracker, I'm sure he could've gotten to the planet & found the Covert. He put himself, the child, & his ship at risk by traveling at sub-light, & his fears were justified. The various things he did to help & protect Mrs Frog & her eggs were almost completely altruistic, with nothing in it really for himself. I personally think he could've taken out those 2 pilots with a minimum of effort, but he responded to the 'live & let live' actions of the pilots in kind.

All that because of his word, even when it hindered his overall mission.

Plus, we get a little more of his hard it is to 'parent' the child.

I actually really enjoy that the episodes are mostly self contained. There is a lose overarching plot that the whole series follows but it's not like Stranger Things, GoT or Breaking Bad where it poses as a series but it's really just a really really really long movie.
