The Mandalorian (TV series)

Interesting...MATTEL and not HASBRO...
Don't know why that's interesting. Mattel's been putting out Star Wars stuff for years. Mighta seen some of those Star Wars Hot Wheels lines? And Mattel is a bit more the company I think of when I think "doll" than Hasbro. *shrug* From Hasbro, I'm watching for Vintage Collection offerings of all these lovely new Mandos...

Only interesting to see how the specific space for the licensees are parted out. Hasbro seems to hold to the action figure license and I had assumed this also included plush toys.

Apparently Favreau purposefully did not release any of the designs for baby Yoda to any of the license holders to avoid the inevitable spoilers and ruin the reveal. Bold move, but it definitely worked.

That’s exactly what I just read too. That way the child stayed unwraps

And it worked

What idiot was in charge of merchandising for the Mandalorian? :p

I can't believe no one thought, "Hmmm, I bet we could sell a few of these for Christmas..."

Well, it certainly isn't a first for Star Wars merchandise...

Baby Yoda seems to be a big marketing hit- I am seeing replicas all over the place now.

As long as Mando is around he can protect the child, don't know if it a season or series long pairing though. The only way he can get rid of the kid safely is to find someone who could protect him/her better.
I can see a moment when the day is saved by the arrival of a very weird ship crewed by others of Yoda's race.
It would be hilarious if when they meet, the Yodas spoke normal basic- it was only Yoda who reversed his sentences

True, but I think you can definitely still incorporate loss into the scenes better. Make it feel more gritty and real. The Battle of Hoth is a great example of this done well and building tension enough to make you forget about plot armor. Its probably the one real gripe I have with ROTJ on top of the Ewoks during the endor battle. All the Rebel troopers just kinda disappear once the battle starts when showing a few of them being killed during the conflict would have been far more effective to the scene in the film and a far less ridiculous

Agree. I'm still annoyed that the dinosaurs never got to eat Timmy in the original Jurassic Park movie.

I'm not, mostly because Joseph Mazzello grew up pretty good and I wish they'd put him in Chris Pratt's role in Jurassic World. In my internal headcanon, I maaaaaaay or may not mentally squint and make that a thing.

"Oh yoda? Yeah...he go hit in the end at early age. He seemed fine after that, but never spoke the same again."

So far, other than wanting longer episodes, my biggest critique is that I was hoping for more long term team up action. Kuiil was in two episodes, but turned down joining Mando full time. IG-11 was in one episode, and doesn't appear likely to return. Cara Dune was in one episode, and they parted ways.
I like the 'Lone Wolf and Cub' aesthetic, but part of me wanted to see a Gather the Crew to Face one Epic Threat in the season finale, where not everyone makes it out alive.

Based on some of the promotional material, I got the impression the "supporting cast member of the week" would have a longer run in the show.

As for Episode 4, I enjoyed it. I yelled LOTH CAT! which, considering I was watching it on my lunch break at work garnered quite the reaction.

My other gripe, is just how different some of the known species look compared with their OT counterparts. The Trandoshans, and now the Klaatuinians, just don't seem to have the same overall look as Bossk and Barada. The Nikto in episode 1 looked good, though.

I liked the AT-ST, but thought the red interior lighting was odd, and the lack of identifiable crew, though they did tell out when the detonator came in the view port.

Overall, I'm thoroughly enjoying the show.

I really think the show is playing the long game, storytelling wise. Instead of setting up Mando's crew in the first episode, then throwing them into adventures while on the run, they're establishing why each of these characters have come to respect him. I could be way off, but I'm thinking we'll eventually see Cara, Greef, Kuiil, & maybe even IG-11 as a crew. I personally believe that the kid will continue past this first season as the glue that holds them together, maybe with a desire to help Mando care for/hide him from the growing First Order, but they'll slowly come to realize that the child is stronger than they ever could've believed, & will ultimately protect them. Kinda like the Firefly crew with River.

Another thing that I am happily surprised by, is that Mando isn't portrayed as some hardened tough guy that everyone has to break through some macho, aloof shell to reach his heart of gold. He's a simple, 'ordinary' man with a belief system that he sticks to. You give him no trouble, you get none, but the capacity for bad-assery is clearly there.

I prepurchased my wife a not-Yoda plush, and I’m printing this out and adding it to her Christmas gifts.

I’m not reeeeeealy sure she’ll get it immediately.......but she does know the story.

Okaaay, how much stuff can we cram into an episode? Tattooine, the exact same shot as the opening of ANH. Mos Eisley, the cantina, same table where Han shot Greedo, Jabba's interrigation droid, and was that the giant cricket still sitting at the bar? The "hit the nose" droids from Episode One, speeder bikes from Rebels, Sand People, banthas, dewbacks, gonk droids. What else?

Wow, that was a lot. Good episode.

I think when he first flies into Mos Eisley, he goes past the cliff where Ben gave Luke the "Hive of scum & villainy" speech.

Tatooine: The Bright Center of The Universe

;) Another fun episode. The King of All Dirt Planets and “The High Ground” all in the same episode.

Side note: did the voice of the novice bounty hunter sound like Hayden Christensen to anyone else?

In ANH how many stormtroopers were walking down that street? How many helmets were on pikes? Surely, you don't think.....? Nah, couldn't be....could it?

I say this tongue in cheek, I know it's years apart.
