The Mandalorian (TV series)

Man i was convinced the Twillek was gonna steal baby Yoda and the ship...He really needs to get another one of those egg pod things, because that baby keeps getting into trouble.

I wonder what will come of the droid knowing about the communication, or even the point of showing that considering what happened to the droid.

"But for all its expense and big-screen legacy, there’s little to dig into. In an age of massive streaming sagas with encyclopedic plots and marathon run times, it runs a crisp 40 minutes or less. It’s nearly plot-free. Mando and his little olive-drab carry-on land somewhere, they get in a scrape, they get out of it, bingo-bango we’re done."

Can't help but agree with this.

I think that’s exactly why I don’t care for the show very much at this point. They had my interest up to and through Chapter 4, but if this show is going to explore almost nothing 6 of 8 episodes in then it might not be the show for me.

I'm taking it as a testing ground introduction for the characters. While it hasn't been a singular storyline they're following in particular, it's doing something else which is character development. We're getting to know a lot about Mando and I really love that aspect.

I'm having fun with it and hope that season 2 brings along a more focused storyline.

For once I'm gonna disagree with what's been said here. I didn't like this episode as much as I liked previous episodes because since the very beggining the plot was pretty obvious to me (like did anyone actually trust those guys?) and the script was crowded with tough guys measuring their d***s at the slightest opportunity, a lot of tough guy clichés here and there, like when they stare at each other 1 inch apart in a tedious testosterone contest. And then the Twi'leks (I had to google how to spell that  ) were a bit...overacted, both ofthem but specially her, Natalia Tena (Osha in Game of Thrones). Like they had an attitude from a bad neighbourhood or something.

Loved the action and everything else. Still a 7.5/10.

Really fun episode. I also liked the tweaks to the theme music for this episode.

So, Mandalorian is a title, like Dread Pirate Roberts.

Nah. It's not passed person to person. It's a community and ethos. More along the lines of a religion (which he actually calls it at one point).

Originally mandalorians were a planet. So it was a nationality. As they expanded and conquered, anyone that joined them and followed their ways were also Mandalorian. There came a point where there were more converts than genetic mandalorians, and at that point it became a society/way if life.

I think at most we'll have 4 episodes like this. Given we've seen shots of Cara in the trailer that we havent seen yet, im guessing the last episode will go back to the overall plot and we'll see returning characters.

Part of me wishes Clancy played a Dathomiri Zabrak, but that might have confused people.

As for the critique that the show isn't doing much of a long-range storyline... Neither did TCW or Rebels a lot of the time. There were lots of one off episodes that featured a main character and side kick, but no real progression other than a bit more insight into the individual characters. That's how Mandalorian is playing out. More like an old time western or science fiction serial versus a long, coherent story that's told from beginning to end. Firefly played out a lot like this in its single season life.
I find this refreshing and enjoyable. It's not a ten hour movie broken down into small portions like so many shows are, like Stranger Things. Neither are bad, just different formats. I like both.

I hope this is the case, but I have the feeling a lot of trailer footage was shot for the single episode she was in, and left on the editing floor, and we wont be seeing her, Kuill or IG-11 again.

That "sharpshooter" was ABSOLUTELY a stormtrooper. Seriously... a dozen or more shots to take out 3 droids?! Sharpshooter, indeed...

This was a pretty fun episode, IMO. I don't mind that we're getting some standalones that don't seem to advance the larger plot. Filoni and Favreau have earned my trust through their past work, and I've been very happy with what we've gotten in this series so far.

Also.. my favorite moment had to be Baby Yoda looking at his hand as if wondering "DID I DO THAT?!"

so, based on IMDB:

IG and Kuiil are done for at least this season. Their voice actors are listed as only in the number of episodes we've seen them in (1 for IG, 2 for Kuiil).

Gina is listed as appearing as Dune in 3 episodes. combined with the fact that the other still images and trailer footage we've seen of her she's in a completely different environment than the forest world we've seen her on, and wielding a weapon that hasn't even been seen in the series so far, we can expect her back for some more this season.

To be fair, he fired a ton of shots at those last three droids, but he hit with all but two of the shots, and all the hits were head shots (including the last shot, on the last droid, right through it's unarmored eyes). Remember, those guard droids seemed pretty seriously armored. the first encounter with them saw even body shots bouncing off the armor. He had to really cut loose on the first two from behind, then got to snipe the last one.

"uh oh, that wasn't what I was trying to do..."

I loved episode 6. It follows the formula of the Clone Wars and Rebels because it is made by the same people. Lol. While I felt the 2 were to cartoonish kiddie I still dig the one off story lines approach. The series uses more mature live action type visual and story elements so I can stay interested this time around. I like the small time story telling that delves into the untold parts of the star wars universe. It's a series not a film that requires a climactic action packed huge ending. Remember that a lot of sitcoms and Western series use the one and done story telling.

I loved the X wing cameos in ep6! Some parts were predictable but still had a lot of suspense build up.

Did you guys see that the x-wing pilots were all episode directors? Dave Filoni is Trapper Wolf, Famuyiwa is Jib Dodger and Chow is Sash Ketter.

Also, the poor New Republic schlub that Xi'an iced was the voice actor for Anakin on Clone Wars. :D

Good to see another male Twi'lek: Qin. So rare otherwise in live-action. For years I had wanted to cosplay as one, but it was so frustrating that there were so few references, and it was evident that their heads had different shapes than the females. There have been only four before, right? Bib Fortuna, the four-headtailed senator Orn Free Taa (prequels), Bib Fortuna's brother (Rogue One) and some background character in Solo are those I can count. I think that of all of them, Qin may have got the most screen-time.

The droid's voice actor, Richard Ayoade has such a distinct voice. It didn't take long before I recognised him. :)

Lyn Me, who was added to Jabba's palace in the Special Edition did not have visible ears either.

Male Twi'Leks have ears similar to humans but smaller, and in drawings in ye olde EU, female Twi'Leks sometimes also had such ears and even bulges on the forehead like some males.
One possible explanation would be that the conical ears could have been shaped during childhood according to some beauty ideal, and that that would have been the reason why female Twi'Leks otherwise wear those headdresses. Those who have naturally-shaped ears might wear a headdress anyway to blend in.
