The Mandalorian (TV series)

Enjoyed it. Most of the thoughts I was going to share (mostly positive/neutral) have already been discussed, so I'll just add this (very minor!) thing:

Sometimes writers overwrite, having characters observe things verbally that are plainly obvious to the viewer, as if it were a radio script. And that's okay when you're slamming through the first draft or two. But some things have no excuse making it through rewrites and production, and ESPECIALLY editing.

Gigantic monster bursts up through the sand.
Mando: "There it is."

....you DON'T SAY?!? ;)

Some of the writing like that has bugged me for sure, especially when a moment like that is ripe for calling back to the earlier planning scene, Mando easily could have looked at Vanth and said “it’s to scale”. It doesn’t need to be a side splitting joke, but also not such an obvious statement like he makes.

I've read thru some the comments, I love This Series. I happen to be in the minority who thinks that it's actually Captain Rex at the end. Why? first of all, Mandalorian takes place right after ROTJ and Fett wouldn't have aged that much. Plus, why would he just let his armor go when it would be the exact reason he survived?(drawing from Mando's survival from inside the Krayt Dragon parelelled Fett possible escaping the Sarloc Pit). Everything in this series seems to be drawing a lot from Rebels.(The Dark Saber) a possible Ashoka reveal. Given the age of Captain Rex would make more sense here, i'd have to side with him. I'm perfectly ok with Fett dying in the Sarloc pit and the jawas recovering the armor. Anyways "This town ain't big enough for the both of us". This series would be too crowded with Mando and Fett. The Child already draws so much attention. I happen to think this episode was a defining moment for Mando without the Childs help. I will say i'm mid 40s lifelong star wars fan and this series is the best thing to happen to star wars since ROTJ. Just my opinion.

It has been 31 years since we last saw Boba in AOTC, where he was 10-12 years old, Morrison is 59 years old, so the timeline of aging is not impossible especially with a hard life and a few years under the suns of Tatooine. Mostly it just doesn’t make a to of sense for Rex to be out there scarred up, when the signs of Boba are very clear.

This is unrelated but your avatar is probably going to cause some confusion with a very active poster Joek3rr

Rex is already mostly accounted for, and was already kind of old in ROTJ.

I don't think filoni would dare put rex on screen without the trademark majestic white beard. There's also no reason rex would have interesting new facial scars and no eyebrows. that guy is almost certainly fett. inability to grow hair is indicative of fire or chemical burns, of which he'd have spent 9 years dealing with on his own. but, who knows, as long as they do it well, I've got no horse in the race.

That would mean rex would appear in his late 60's or 70's at this point. I agree it's really gotta be fett. I don't know if there's even enough time in the season to play around with bait and swtich story lines like that. there were a good number of "monster of the week" episodes last season, and I doubt they're changing up the winning formula that much for season 2

well, we saw a lot of Boba reference in the episode, a lot of call backs to KOTOR but it wouldn't be like the writers to throw us off a little? We must not forget season 1 nor the fact that Mando has a new "mandate"-take the Child back to its kind. Boba knows the Jedi, yes..so does Rex..and Moff Gideon has the Dark Saber. We all want Boba to bridge Mando to the Jedi but he's not a good guy, Mando is and so is Rex. To me the obvious direction is to Ashoka. Would i like to see Luke Skywalker? Absolutley, especially when his legend must be all over the galaxy by now but man that would be a "squirrel" distraction away from Mando. The show is called "The Mandalorian". I hope it truly sticks to making the story about him.

i don't mind if it is Boba. I'm fine either way. I loved all the call backs i just think Mando is the star and should be. Selfishly, i like Boba better than Rex, i just don't think it makes sense to all the other aspects of the show other than that episode itself..tied it up in simple, nice bow..i'm ok with whatever direction they want to go. One success? they continue to make us want more..i like it

Watched it and waited for reviews and easter egg videos. Some say Fett left his armor because everyone knew he was an Empire affiliate and since the Empire was gone, he would be seen as a bad guy and be taken out. So he decided to live the quiet life. AND since he was seen with Tusken gear, there's a theory saying he was the one at the campfire sitting distantly from Mando.

I have no doubt that its Fett, maybe the sail barge debris choked the sarlacc and its mouth was stuck open and he made his way out. Or maybe this dragon was the same who ate the carkoon sarlacc and he fought his way through during the feeding. Knowing that the sarlacc digests slowly over 1,000 years, i can bet the erosion on Fett's armor came from a krayt deagon.

I hope Fett becomes an antihero and helps Din on his way to find jedi, or at least point him in a direction just before he goes back to living quietly. I can see him saying something like "I was like you, then everything fell. I had no clan, no purpose, so i left the armor and made my own way. Meeting you gives me hope for finding a new way."

This is 1 out of a small group of Mando who have lots of jedi knowledge. So he is one who can steer Din on his path. We've seen Fett wanting revenge while he was a kid trying to murder Mace, he wont want revenge against Han or jedi, he'll just want to do something that has meaning all while he lays low.

But i doubt we'll see it play out in the next episode, Din will find other side quests and Fett will emerge in like episode 14 or so.

I would love that but i would love it even more if somehow he led him to deliver the child to Luke Skywalker ( Perhaps Mando would become a Jedi and be a Mandalorian Jedi like the first one, possibly earning the right to hold the dark saber himself). But the minute you enter Luke into the storyline you're trying to tie it in with the sequels then World War breaks out..lol

For the record i hope everyone else is right and its Boba and im wrong..cant wait til the next episode

was pretty sure I'd seen it from one of the movies before. I think I actually recognized it off of an old school star wars card game card; maybe out of one of the technical manual books.

[Edit] yup. Old tech book. I guess it's also in Luke's garage?

Well I absolutely loved this episode.

Made me feel like a kid watching SW again after the Sequel Trilogy left a bad taste in my mouth.

My oldest son had a great comment: This is like watching a Dungeons & Dragons campaign set in the SW universe! Mando is on a quest, he levels up (Beskar), gets his magic item (Baby Yoda), adds other characters to his party, slays dragons, I can go on.

It’s a great analogy.
