The Last of Us HBO Joel Thread

How would I go about removing the wax on the Huckberry jacket? I’ve never distressed anything but thinking of giving it a try with this one. Anyone have any tips?

Also what size do you guys think Pedro is wearing?

Boiling it in water, will remove the wax from the jacket. Not sure what else they did, that’s something I read Cynthia’s breakdown team did.

Though, if you don’t remove the wax, wear it enough to patina, it’ll give a worn look naturally.

I'm pretty sure it's the blue. If you watch Episode 1, it's def the blue.

Crossley Midnight Blue Tshirt (product code: 12633399IK).

Only got size L left. Unfortunately, I have gone from size L to XL quite recently, the side effects of exercising moderately :D
I'll have to wait until it comes back in stock.

I'd say get the L while it's still in. There's always next season!

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN

I have been given approval to share this from the man who created the watch himself, Andrew Taylor.

I did make some followup emails, but here is the email I have the amazing privilege from the creator himself.

Source out and replicate my friends! Enjoy:

*Note, the hands we see in the working watch appear to not have been sourced by AT, and were sourced by the prop department in Calgary - so those appear to still be unsourced - however, you might as well follow this guide provided, as it's truest to what was actually on screen from the man himself.

**ALSO, the crown is no longer used, so I’m waiting for confirmation and more info from him.

UPDATE: I realized after I bought the Miyota 2025 movement that it wont support the sweeping seconds hand.

Check out the AL55 movement on Esslinger so you can get a working second hand.

UPDATE:
Crowns are Extra Large Quartz Waterproof Watch Crowns 83.6025.001.9

No idea on watch movement holder. Will have to find.

Hey! So for the case, I actually used a 38mm Timex weekender. They preferred the proportions of the 38mm to the 40mm on pedro’s wrist. The face is custom. I copied off of reference and recreated it. I printed it out and actually removed the Timex Vinyl face and replaced it. It’s a fairly easy process. Timex uses a vinyl printout on a bit of sheet metal that is covered in adhesive tape.

As for the movement: The movements I used were simple Miyota 3 hand movements. The sub second hand was just for show. The movement I used is actually not available for sale anymore which is odd but any miyota 3 hand would work. Same thing for the crowns.

Now for the hands. I too had difficulty with the hands. So what I did was buy the sword hands I’ll link an very carefully hand painted them.

Watch Hands To Fit Minute Hand Hole Size .70mm And Hour Hand Hole Size 1.20mm

Style 86.725

At the time the large seconds hand was a silver or black seconds hand due to a stock issue with my supplier. So I had to hand paint those too. There may be a white option in stock now.

Watch Hand Refills Yellow Multi-Style Sweep Second Hands

Btl # 18 / .17 / 13mm – Yel

The sub seconds hand size didn’t matter but these are the ones I bought.

Watch Small Sub Second Hands In Stick And Leaf Hole Sizes .26, .20, .17 And .16mm (Probably the red leaf shape)

As for the difference in the pre break and post break hands, the unbroken ticking watches I sent had issues during transit. Possibly a customs issue. So they did some in house repairs and may have been able to source something in Canada I was not able to stateside. For some reason we have quite limited options here. But I have a source.

Pilot Style Watch Hand Set - Black/White - CT867 - Crystaltimes USA

These are not the same size, but they look the part and you might be able to find a movement with the correct size. Just look up the Seiko movements this works on and find out what size hands they used. Some of those movements may even be quartz. I wish this source was available at the time I Made the watches lol. These hands are luminous, however, none of the hands were for the show.

Hope this helps! Good luck in your endeavors!

Send me the RPF link if you don’t mind and I’ll hop on and see if I can answer any more burning questions!

Thanks!

Correct me if I’m wrong, the t shirt was dyed so awesome that you guys found a close one but an accurate shirt off the rack doesn’t exist

Both shirts, the Fjallraven and the River Island shirt, do not exist in the same configuration as they appear in the show, off the rack.

You’ll have to get them modified.

Ok sorry I can see how this is confusing

I'm honestly not sure how much. I can't imagine that it was, Cynthia might have been mistaken - no offense to her, but the job was done by her breakdown artist.

The shirt is undeniably on point as far as colors. Though, to be honest, when we think of "weathered", some times it's just getting it worn and used (lived in). Thinking of Joel's profession, they probably took this shirt out to the gravel - lightly - to break it a little, and then washed it multiple times. I can't see them dying this any further than what it is - until I actually get the shirt in my hands.

So I'll keep you posted.

Is he willing to share pictures? Also in regards to hands that fit the Miyota 2025, which hands do you mean? The ones I found or ones from his list?

The ones from the list. Look at the measurement of that set of hands referenced, and compare to the 2025 movement requirements. They match.

Unfortunately, no photos. Definitely don’t want to bombard, but he’ll definitely share more info soon.

The movement purchased from that site also includes the stems. Just need to find the crowns.

How are your vinyl stickers going, both dial face and the glass one?

For those modding watches. I highly recommend a Watch Hand Puller for removing hands. However, don't waste money on a hand setting tool. I use a sticky note to grab the hands and the plastic tube from the inside of an ink pen to set them.

Btw guys, just going to put this out there as a safety tip:
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD: IF YOU ATTEMPT TO DO THE "BROKEN CRYSTAL LOOK" FOR THE WATCH GLASS, PLEASE, PLEASE BE CAREFUL. BROKEN CRYSTAL IS VERY SHARP. YOU CAN POTENTIALLY CUT YOURSELF VERY BADLY. CRYSTAL ALSO SHARDS WHEN BROKEN, SO YOU WILL GET GLASS IN YOUR FINGERS - IT’S HORRIBLE.

*I also suggest parting out a few replacement glass crystals. I can’t find replacements yet for the Timex Weekender, but I’ll keep you posted.

I've sliced my finger DEEP before on broken watch crystal glass, and can't recommend it - nor the hydrogen peroxide burn/potential stitches.

If you do the breaking effect, you’ll have to damage the crystal when it’s on the watch, which could potentially damage your watch hands/dial. So just be warned.

There are also many watch repair kits on Amazon that you can buy to take apart the watch. I own this one right here, and it works pretty well (note the hand removal tool!).

There are a few guys on here that have experimented with printing a clear Vinyl sticker that has the damage already on it, which honestly, is a smart idea.

Let me know if you guys have any questions.
