The HellBoy Samaritan

You guys are the best! Now I am totally killing myself because that may have been an actual METAL samaritan I saw down at WETA in the case! I assumed it was the sideshow resin version, as it was surrounded by various WETA and Sideshow "for sale" props and busts. If only I had asked to touch it - I was in total "prop shock" at the time and my wife still teases me about it to this day :lol

It did dawn on me this afternoon that WETA has a fantastic 3D printer, and they could have easily printed out the Samaritan, molded the parts, and cast them in whatever they liked (resin, aluminum, rubber, etc.).

Once again, a big mahalo for all the great info.

man... sideshow should release all-metal versions of the HBII samaritan and big baby... i NEED them...

well... all-metal and wood grips =P

I missed out on the Official one so I scratch built mine, along with the case.
Loving those B+W pics- never seen them ! I did mine from screen grabs.....
(I do have this as a kit BTW, but my molds are in storage as I am moving house, but I will let you know when it is ready again).
Heres mine:
sorry for the pic size- cant edit it from the site here -oops

I scratch built it - I have access to a vacformer so it was quite easy ( a box !) the rest is piano hinge and heat formed plastic card, with dense foam packing cut to fit. The stencil was hand cut in card for the lettering.
I sold this one on ebay last year ! miss it now....;-(

Love the Samaritan too, I sold my sideshow version and regretted it since ah well heres hoping for a metal version one day!

I just love this prop. I don't suppose you'd like to post up some work in progress photos of your scratch build?

:)

I second that! Amazing work - I'd love to see how it all came together. Thank you so much for sharing the photos!

It is very well loved with me now :love

I bought some custom Brass and Stainless Steel machined bullets from eBay back before they bought in the new laws. I like the fact that I can display the awful Sideshow bullets on the stand and still have a fully loaded Samaritan on the stand.
The brass in the chambers breaks up the grey really nice. I also got a spent cartridge as well that rests on the stand.
Adds a nice amount of weight to it.

hehe-
Yes thats deliberate- (to me it was backwards in the film to enable the Samaritan to be seen from the view of the camera.)
You know- it was my 'second' scratch build- the first was the 5th Element police gun- so I didnt take progress pics.oops.
Its basically MDF, plastic card, stock tubing and lots of car bodyfiller.
The barrel was done by two parts then stuck together. The first part was a block with four drill holes in it (for the bullets). The second half was a larger block, drilled with the four holes and then I drew the outside circle of the outside barrel shape. On centre lines of that circle I then drew four more circles and half drilled them out . That block then had eight holes. I glued the two blocks together, and then I then cut out the outside circle, which basically gave me four holes( bullets) and four half holes (outer detail). I then used a dremel to get the round bottom to the outer details.
ANyone interested I do have moulds for this and I have sold two so far over on ebay. I also have moulds for the speed loaders. I dont know if my stuff would mix with SS's version as I dont own one of theirs ;-(.
However, watch this space as once I get my workshop stuff out of storage I will make it available as a 3 piece kit. Prob mid Feb ( I hope!) as well as 90% of my other builds:

Thanks to everyone who have praised this !:love:love:love:love:love
(I am not sure of the price btw- I am concious of the US dollar being weak to the pound so will do a bit of market research.)

the Doctor: looking great! I love seeing the work-in progress stuff!

CustomCreations: Love your website - fantastic work! I was thinking "hey - he's got the molds, he should pour up some waxes and cast up a metal version" - then I saw the photo of the gun in the woman's hand! That gun is HUGE. It is easy to forget the scale of this prop without a human reference point. That would be a hefty hunk-o-metal!.

You mention three parts to your version of the gun - I'm thinking barrel section, handle section, and cylinder? Does your version have a functional trigger or "release lever" for opening the gun up for re-loading? Once again, great job!
