The DEFINITIVE TDK Joker Costume Thread/Project

I am/will be in the market for scar appliances soon, when I first started, and for Halloween I used collodion, but the application just takes way to long, and the final outcome just isn't worthwhile IMO. The left scar from gorify looks preety cool, but the right one leaves a little bit to be desired. Is there a lip scar or not?
 
There is, the pic of the lip scar i pulled from their site, but it does look great, with the angled scar. When i get home ill find a pic of me wearing it and post it up for ya.
 
Yes, the lip scar and the right scar are not quite as impressive as they could be - I am hoping they update with a new set at some point.
I really wish someone out there (perhaps even eventually Gorify) will offer the encapsulated scars just like what was used for Heath:

IMO, once this is done, and pending the accuracy of the sculpt, Joker impersonators will have the best you can get. Anything else is just a prototype waiting in the wings for the champion to emerge...
 
I agree, unless someone offers a realy good set, I don't realy want to waste money on anything else. (As I'd expect them to be alot higher in price...)
 
I am considering giving a whack at sculpting my own scars and do the molds myself. Idealy, I would like to have a life-cast made of my face and start from there.
 
That's what a web friend did for her husband, they came out 100% better than anything available. If I knew I could sculpt them,etc. I'd try it out myself. I'm just not for sure I could cast them,etc.

I am still looking for a screen accurate scar solution as well.


Since I never heard back from his hair stylist, I am just going to tell you guys what she said. The style his hair she used Redken Disrupt

That stuff really works! I found some locally about a week ago and in a matter of minutes you can get the right look.

But unfortunately the green is no longer being made. It was called "Jeans Green" by Alfaparf. Been out of production for quite some time, and the shelf life on this stuff is about a year so no luck finding new old stock or anything. Believe me I have tried. I even emailed the manufacturer and they have no plans for a re-release. This should be the next best thing

Thats funny, the link you posted for Redken, i actually use it normally for my hair, or i use the one right under it called 'manuever"
 
Sculpting the scars is really no problem - once I have the time I will do up a set and post the pics here - molding, which I have never done befor, should not be too hard. I will just do a plaster mold like what Gorify is using. Turns out thier 'Flexi-mold' didn't work too well because the flexible mold didn't last long.
Hopefully a SFX company out there can produce the kind of encapsulated scars like the picture I posted earlier.

I should be able to do an accurate set. If I can get it to work, I will gladly offer the scars exclusively to RPF members who want them but for starters, I will be just doing them for myself and see how well they work.
 
If yours are accurate I'd love a set. For costuming purposes I don't care for the lip scar as much. That can be painted on just as easy.
 
Here is what I worked on tonight:
This is a trial version of the right scar. I used the picture of Heath below as my reference.
One of the pics below shows my new sculpt with one of Gorify's original Latex appliances - one thing I tried to improve upon from Gorify's scar was the lenght of the scar as well as the curvature of the 'cut'. I also wanted to make the overall volume of the sculpt much more than what is currently offered by Gorify.
As you fellow Joker heads will know, once that makeup is on, it can greatly diminish the depth of the scar benieth it, so the amount of raised surface is important - too little and you might as well just paint it on, too much and it plain doesn't look right at all.
I have yet to order the smooth-on products to make a mold and the first test of silicone appliance, but this is my first attempt for a prototype.
I appreciate your input - I'm doing this for you just as much as for myself.

Great start! Looks to me like it could be curved just a tad more. And the three bumps on the end I think are rounder and should be more defined. I've got another picture from that same shoot of his left side if you want it.

Thumbs up so far. Already looks miles ahead of the gorify one.

It should actually end up looking more curved depending on where you place it on your face. The end closest to your mouth should line up with your upper and lower lip edge, doing so, you have to rotate the scare at such an angle that it curves upward more abruptly.
Once I start playing around with molding and all that jazz, we should be able to better determine modifications, but I will refine the current design a tad more.
I am working on the left scar right now - I have that picture you specified, it is very helpfull but not as helpfull as the frontal shot because we see more depth in that one because of the shading.

I started working on the left scar - it's coming along pretty good, though I may take some of it's volume away and have it raised a little more sublte. I will post pics of that one soon.
I also did another version of the right scar - this one is more curved upwards, though I am having a hard time deciding how big to make the round parts at the end.
I think once I start molding these and experimenting with the makeup I can better determine the direction I am going in.
I want to start looking into how the real scars were applied. Is that a silicone mold they are using? If so, how can you pour silicone into the silicone mold without the two bonding? I'm sure a release agent helps that, but I never seen that kind of thing done before.
If it IS a silicone mold, then during my 'experiments' I will try and duplicate how it is done.
If anyone has any links to a tutorial for such a procedure, please post them!

Hey guys, just found this thread and thought I'd throw my scar sculpts into the mix. My mold broke recently so I'm going to have another go at it and try a new and VERY cool material/method that will make app time and appearance amazing, in theory. Anyway, here's pics of V1

I did something about my hair. Wasn't the most pleasant experience, but then I hate going to the hairdressers anyway.

I also got some brown contact lenses. I've never used contacts before so they took a while to get used to putting 'em in and taking 'em out. It's weird to touch your own eyeball. They can start to feel a bit itchy after a while, but hey you gotta suffer some for screen accuracy right?

b89, those are pretty darn good! I have to find someone in my area that can do a lifecast for me but until then, I will keep experimenting with doing them on a flat surface :cry
Here is where I am at so far:
Second attempt at the right scar. More curve, but happer with the overall look of the first attempt - I will know more once I start doing the silicone copies

I liked the way this one turned out but it may still be too beefy, so I am going to give it another try.
