The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance Netflix Series

Oh and i know hes meant to be a totally creepy bad buy and was in the movie. but even as a kid i really found the Chamberlain really very endearing.

The British Film Institute has a popup exhibition of props and puppets from the new show currently on display. I can upload some photos if anyone’s interested.
OMG if you would that would be amazing! I want to do all the Maudras from the series, but the photos are so few! If you can get good shots of the gelfling costumes (especially this one) I would hyper appreciate that!!

I know I'll get resistance for this.... Get it? But the series is so much better than the film. Now I know the film has only so much time to tell it's story, but it never really grabbed me. This series however is outstanding! I wouldn't even mind if they did a special edition of the original film to make it all flow together better.

Anyone know the back story to “the hunter”

This character really intrigues me.. all the other skeksis are crippled and weak, this guy is fast, climbs jumps, flips.. what’s his deal?

Anyone know anything about him?

His counterpart was the mystic Archer, so its original Urskeks personality was probably in that general mold - a warrior split into a noble protector versus the ruthless mercenary.

Aaah... but why is he healthier? Or stronger then the rest of the skeksis?

I just assumed that he, unlike basically all the skeksis didn't fall into the trap of hedonism and decadence. He remained active and strong while his fellow Skeksis grew weak and atrophied, doing nothing for themselves. They rely on the power of the crystal to maintain their health, rather than keeping fit. It's like eating bacon for every meal, never shifting from the sofa, and expecting your doctor to make you healthy. LOL The hunter probably also takes advantage of the crystal, after all, the whole point of the story is that the Skeksis are prolonging their lives beyond the natural span, but I expect keeping fit also helps.

Boy, I'm only three episodes in and already this show is a chore to sit through; I just keep dozing off. I want something to latch onto but everything is so...thin. I find that the show has the same problems I had with the movie. Just...longer.

While I admire the attempt of a fantasy/adventure done with puppets, it just doesn't work. By its very nature, puppetry is limiting. Yoda works in ESB as an effect and a character because he isn't seen and doesn't do much. With the show, and the movie, we're with these things the entire time, and everything is shot in a way to hide it's a puppet as much as it can, which hinders the film-making. The show and the movie are all in close-ups and mediums, which makes the world feel very small. And being in close-ups and mediums, we're naturally drawn to the faces on screen. I guess it's an "uncanny valley" thing because the closer it looks to human, the more it's going to have to try to convince it's real. Having hair, realistic eyes, and skin textures; things that closely resemble human features, but static-y puppet mouth flaps, it just doesn't look good. They mention in the making-of documentary for this show that there was CG help added to the facial expressions, but I guess that was ultimately dropped from the show due to budget.

Had they put the same amount of effort into the writing as the fabrication work, I think I wouldn't be as harsh as I am. It would at least give me something to latch on to, but---"They're absconding with the essence!" Even George Lucas doesn't write lines that stiff. I want to admire the craftsmanship of it all, individual aspects I can, but I don't care about the characters or the story, so it ultimately serves nothing for me.

I was where you were, but I kept watching. It gets good.

I am glad that I had forgotten how clunky the storytelling in the movie is. I liked DC for its visuals, but did not remember it as a great movie. We watched the movie after finishing the series and I am glad that we did that. The series is so much better. It ia a bit of a downer to find out in the movie that the resistance ultimately fails and all but two gelflings were killed. Thra is an empty husk. I am curious though what the sequel graphic novels have to offer.
