The Amazing Spiderman (Reboot) Costumes and Wardrobe

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I still hate the suit. There's no way they can photograph it and have it look good. No flip-flopping here. :lol

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

This is a concept you actually find hard to understand?

All we had to base our opinions on were poor quality spy pics taken from 20 feet away and now we have an actual high resolution, accurate representation of how the costume will look on film.

I empathize, I understand, I know how people can look at it that way.
But It still doesn't make sense to me. I just think it is illogical make conclusions that way in specific regard to costume design (among other things).
Perhaps it is just the way my brain works, But I tend to look at elements independently.
I see the costume as the only element to be evaluated; Lighting, resolution, and photographic elements don't affect the way I judge the gestalt of a costume.
Does that evoke any sort of empathy for how I see it? We are allowed to disagree.

If someone posted images of their costume taken with a crappy webcam in the dark and then suddenly posted an expertly lit studio shot you don't think you might have a different opinion after seeing the latter?
To be honest no.
I'd think the picture quality was different. NOT necessarily the quality of the costume.

...Anyway, in the continued spirit of discovery.
Have some inspiring textures. While we wait for someone to pick up the reigns on printing. (Though I imagine that some of the more wiley costumers on here could actually utilize some of this stuff)

"Hexagon mat"
Used for workout flooring, or livestock stables.
I realize the pattern is inverted, but that would make it easy to pour a skin of pigmented latex over it to pick up the hex pattern. no?

"honeycomb texture stamp" / "honeycomb rubber stamp"
Similar concept, lay out a sheet of clay, stamp the honeycomb impression into the clay, perhaps even sculpt it so that you get the webbing? Pour a skin of latex over.

This one is probably my favorite that I've found...
"Honeycomb silicone trivet"
You could probably use it as a stamp, or buy a bulk amount and simply cut them into the web-patterns over the suit?

So those are just some hex pattern ideas for those who might want to start working on alternative techniques (aside from Screen printing).
Also, to get this thread back on track.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I'm looking forward to the movie, but the costume hardly looks like something a high school kid whipped up in his spare time. Or is Pete in college in this one?

Regardless, I miss a simpler suit.

Looks like the red "overlay" is lifting off the shoulder in this pic.

This isn't at an accurate representation of how the suit will look on film. Once again, this shot hides everything people didn't like in those spy pics (and don't discount that this is the second "official" and professional shot). It's not about quality of photography, it's about obscuring the really offensive parts of this costume. Aside from this fingers, this shot uses positioning, cropping, lighting, and photoshop (feet) to hide every single element that people on the internet have been upset about. That's not by coincidence.

An accurate representation of how the suit will look on film will include silver details on the feet, red leg stripes, a missing belt, a black-stained crotch, and a poorly designed back/shoulders. It's a bit insulting for you guys to keep insinuating that anyone who doesn't like the suit (even those who do like this picture) can't look at the amateur snapshots as objectively as you can.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

The suit is still horrible, no matter how you light it, shoot it or edit it. The worst offender is the back of the suit. I can understand the poor decision to put stripes down his legs and even the belt being eliminated at the front since the designer obviously wanted the belt to have a similar visual flow to that seen in the leg and arm stripes but the back?

There is no justification for the back. From the awkward angles they designed across his shoulders to that god awful spider that wouldn't be readable as a spider from twenty feet away, it's just a poorly thought out and executed mess. I also cant believe the studio didn't have the foresight to run the design by a couple of focus groups. If they did and they got positive feedback they were very selective with their sampling.

My only hope at this point is that the film is good enough that after seeing it I'm willing to forgive the amateurish take on the suit and that if they produce a fifth film they quickly rectify all the problems found in this suit.

Parting question...black crotch? WTF suit designer?

When I said an accurate representation I meant more of how the texture/detail and color will look on film with proper lighting and color correction. I didn't mean every inch of the suit is accounted for in the picture.

Perhaps your last line was directed at someone else, but I wasn't insinuating anything of the sort.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

has anyone noticed how his right leg (left if your looking at the pic) gets pixilated before the shadow covers up the rest?

now that i look at it more, it looks like htat hapens on both legs.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

More honeycomb/hexagon textures worth exploring

"Honeycomb latex glove"

"Scouring mesh/ fabric"
Could this fabric be found/ coated in a thin latex coating?

I actually have some of those, there's zero give/stretch to the mesh and the weave is quite small but it might work for the gloves/boots.
I was working in the same direction for my suit, a latex coated mesh over lycra undersuit.

Amazing Spider-Man rumor reveals potentially cool Lizard set piece? - JoBlo.com

Not sure if anyone else saw this yet, but if true, it's an obvious confirmation on the Lizard being the villain.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, initially, it sounded strange, but if done well it could be kind of cool. Of course that train of thought is assuming that the rumor isn't BS.

Also, side note, I retitled the thread with the movie's official title because I can and because the title is awesome.

I ask the same question of the suit designer.

Whats funny is those that dont like it, the suit, are told our opinions suck. Really? Its just an opinion, you like it? More power to ya, enjoy it, just dont hate those that hate.

Hows that for a great sentence? LOL

Don't judge a book by its contents!

(I have faith with the director and his choices. I still think this movie will impress all the naysayers)

THANK YOU! I completely agree. People are WAY too quick to judge movies like this nowadays. I realize there have been many disappointments in the past, but there have also been many awesome ones recently. In any case, I don't think any one of us can judge this movie yet. At least wait until you see the trailer or some footage.

Paul/jetbeetle already confirmed the Lizard as villain; he read the script.

Where is this? I'm always skeptical when people claim they've read the script or that they have a mysterious friend who works on the set. Not saying he didn't, but because it inevitably happens for every big movie like this and almost always end up being false, I take it with a grain of salt. Yes, I've been 99% sure he was the villain from the beginning, but until we see a pic released from the studio, nothing is certain.
