The 89 MattMobile Build Thread.

Picked up a tank of gas yesterday for the welder.

The steel for the stretch is also due to be delivered early next week. Definitely exciting times!
 
Bought the tank, though I believe they have a buy back policy. And yes, the welder comes with all the plumbing necessary. Good call :)

Not sure if buying vs. leasing was the right move, but was following the advice of BTW. (Bo The Welder)

For the most part I agree with buying the tank. It's the getting it recertified every few years that I am not to kosher with. Some states require tank certification every 2-3 years other states require it every 5-10 years some state don't even allow it and the tank must be replaced every "x" years. I know at the shop I used to work at we bought our tanks and then swapped them for new when recert time came, it cost us about 2/3rd the cost of a brand new tank but we didn't have to pay to have tanks recertified which on some types of tanks could be over a hundred a tank. when a new tank only cost us 225. I don't know how it is in your neck of the woods, but you might want to check into that before it bites you in the posterior.
 
If there's one constant with me and my projects, it's short sightedness :lol If I ended up making the wrong choice with the tank, I'm sure it's something I can bounce back from financially :D

I guess in general, my philosophy is typically this: plow ahead, fix mistakes as they happen. A really fascinating effect I've been made aware of through my work in the corporate world is a thing called "Analysis paralysis", which basically means you sit around thinking about it and planning it so much that you get nothing done.

Of course, the opposite side of that is plowing ahead without regard or a plan, and I'd like to believe I fall somewhere in the middle of the two extremes. But in general, I find that projects are much more likely to be completed if you maintain one VERY critical element: momentum.

Whoohoo! First cuts on the frame were made tonight! Bo came over and tore the mutha up! One half of the frame is now cut. He's coming back tuesday of next week to finish up. Pics to follow, and I've got enough video to make another episode of ROTMM too!
 
lol i just got one of those welders a few weeks ago. it's a realy nice welder.
cant wait to see you get this thing looking like a mattatmobile :D
 
The Caprice is now FULLY sawed in half! Did some welding tests tonight. Back at it on Monday when Bo returns. Pics and video are eminent!!
