The 89 MattMobile Build Thread.

Matt, if I were you, I wouldn't watch the cost until it's all done and you are driving it.

That way, you feel the satisfaction of where the money went to.

I'm actually not at all worried about the money. I just think it's fun to keep track of :D The main reason for writing it all down is so that when someone asks how much I spent, I will know. With R2, I kind of have a ballpark number, but not a precise one.

Learning from past mistakes, I suppose :)

Hey Matt - what kind of engine are you putting in there? Thinking of a small-block 8, or sticking with the stock mill? If so, going to do anything to add more power, or use a different trans or rear end?

Or why not just go for the gold and drop in a jet turbine? :lol

Nope, just leaving in place the engine that came with it. Honestly, I have ZERO interest in attempting to take this car to high speeds, or through extreme handling situations. I doubt it will ever even see a freeway, unless it's on a trailer. Besides, that's really just an extra expense, and an extra level of difficulty that will only serve to complicate the build further.

Which means my chance of finishing it decrease :)

I was just curious :)

And it's not like you couldn't drop a different engine in at some future point.

I was talking to Kevin Eastman recently about his old screen-used 89 Batmobile recently and he said it was slightly terrifying to drive in real world conditions due to the limited visibility. Limited road usage is a good idea it would seem.

I completely believe it. Even if it was a lot better, I would still be pretty reluctant to drive it on the freeway. ESPECIALLY california freeways.

This baby will be reserved for trips to the grocery store, yogurt land, laps around the neighborhood, and the occasional late night drive around the streets of Irvine. But never on the freeway, or out of my town. Not only because I'm too terrified I'll crash into something, but I'm also terrified someone will crash into me. :D

They say most accidents happen close to home (within a mile or so? I dunno, maybe I'm making that part up). Anyway, my wife was in two accidents in the last 3 years, both within 5 minutes of home during a 40 minute commute. So the saying seems to be totally true.

Matt, as long as you drive that thing only near home, you're taking huge risks!! :)

ROAD TRIP!!!

SHOTGUN!

:love

I call Driver if Matt will let me, or not notice me stealing his keys:cool. Also do not worry I fully intend to see how far the needle on the speedometer will actually go, visibility or not :lol

One of my first cars was a 78 corvette...

I LEARNED to drive without visibility! It's not THAT important! :lol

I have learned this lesson all to well in my chevelle, before I got the Heater core defrost fixed. Windows down blowing cold air+wiping the inside of the glass only works so well:lol. For the most part Loud+ Large car= people gave me plenty of room all around :cool. I hope it will be the same in the MattMobile, which if I ever get the keys even for a 5 min drive, will officially become the The "Hotroding 100+ MPH Batmobile" :cool:cool:cool
