The 89 MattMobile Build Thread.

Great tip Matt ! I am running by the Post Office tomorrow ! Sounds like you found a real winner to help with the stretch, must have been fate !

So Matt... were those tears of joy all over that reciept? Very awesome way to save $50. I'm mucho impressed.

Oh the things I could build with a welder... although, I should probably have a garage first. I can't imagine welding in the living room going over too well.

Just be careful welding. If you store gas can's in the garage, a friend of mine almost burn down his house when he sparked a fire from the vapors, after a fuel spill...idiot. Nice to see that shell show up!

Real men arc weld. Although my attempts at arc welding made me realize I need a mig welder, or at least I will if I ever need to do welding.

I'm hoping that whatever man points I lose from owning a mig welder will be made up for by the fact that I'm building a batmobile in my garage!! whoohoo!!!!! :lol

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement! I feel like I am FINALLY getting back on track with this project. I'm still holding my breath on that shell delivery though. I've had bad luck in the past :D

Great video, Matt. Very entertaining. The Sony Bloggy did a fantastic job.

Just one question. How did you make a video of the Sony Bloggy? Did you use, like, mirrors and stuff?

Or is that a trade secret?

Hah!! good question. I typically shoot using my Canon Vixia HFS200. It's a bit bigger than the bloggie, and I wanted something that I could do some subtle/stealth shooting with at lowes or the post office. Just wanted to avoid anyone telling me I couldn't shoot in there. I'm guessing anyone who saw it probably thought it was a phone.

So where's the shell already jerky??? :darnkids

Heck I'm excited and happy for you to see your setbacks resolved! Awesome news on the new shell and reputable welder! :):thumbsup

Loving the vids! I think it would help to have a camera man for extra shots of you getting in there with the work etc. from time to time.

Dont get me wrong I love the hand held and tripod stuff so far, Im just saying you could have clips of various things while you are talking over some parts of the facetime. ( I know, it's Munson, he's gots to have facetime!) :$

Always impressed. But... This may be your 9th symphony of movie prop replicas.

Can't WAIT to see the day you get to show off finished pics! :cool

Matt, good try on averting our attention to saving 10% at lowes but it's not gonna work. I want to see a finished "Mattmobile" man and I want to see it NOW! Please have this finished by the So Cal prop party or else I'll start a "Occupy Matts garage" movement made up of the 99% of us that can't build a Mattmobile! :)

Thanks OldKen! I figure after this car is finished, I'll take a well deserved break from building. Oh wait, I still have my second R2 to finish, and the Zf1. After THAT I'll take a well deserved break. Oh, and my HIC too. After THAT I'll take a well deserved break. :D

I've got a couple other video projects I'm working on for the RPF, so there will for sure be no shortage of face time for me :)

I'm planning on finally making it out there sometime this summer for some psuedo related-ish things.

Man... there are soo many of you that I HAVE to make a vacation plan as one who were traveling abroad for the first time and say France with the Louvre eifel tower etc. etc. were on their list.

Except for all that stuff is lame compared to the Mattmobile, PHArchivist's death star. Bugging Funky for no reason... maybe trying to drink real cola out of his BTTF2 Pepsi perfect bottles... :lol:angel

Seriously I've always wanted to make it to a prop party, but if I get out that way I hope you have a sec for me to just stop by and see it in whatever state it's in. :cool

Carry on! :p

Interesting update today! I talked to the guy making my shell, and the outstanding news is that it's done. There's a few more tiny parts I'm going to order, but the shell is done and ready to ship.

Shipping is the first piece of interest. I'm not sure what to do. It may cost THOUSANDS to have the thing container shipped out here ,and even then, that only gets me to Long Beach. I MAY end up attaching a hitch to the Crysler, driving out there and renting a flatbed from uhaul when I get there. Because its so light, I don't think my car would have a problem with it.

Here's the rub:

The car is a full SIX INCHES too long to fit in my garage.

Exploring options now :lol

Yikes ! sounds like you have some logistics to work out ! I'm glad to hear the shell is done though, progress is being made !

well, open the garage door, build a wood frame for a few yards, put it infront of the garage, cover it with waterproof plastic-poof more space :D

Im sure the HOA would love that LOL

Boy you sure have a conundrum? Is that just unassembled or is that installed also?

Are you planning on having the front clip flip for access to the engine? I've seen one or two replicas do this. If so, you may be able to cut the body at that line and store is separately in your garage. That should take up the extra six inches.

Just let laamberry drive.... Instantly bigger garage
