Just emailed my entry as well.
Thanks for putting this together, had a good time!

Dittoes to that!

I had a lot of fun and win or lose, I am proud of my effort.

My main frustration was that I was obsessing about a fantastic part I picked up in a dollar store a few years ago that I could not find anywhere this past month. As I did not have a current receipt for the part I could not use it.

That led to a real challenge of completely changing my desired direction making for a great exercize in thinking outside the box. I really only had a single Dollar Tree store locally (I did find another over an hour away) but I visited the one store enough to get a few weird glances as I stood staring at anything and everything on the shelves turning each object over in my hands like some precious artifact while mentally deconstructing it for shape and form.

There were several false starts. My first attempt was complete by Nov 11th (complete crap!) The final look of the saber I eventually submitted all came together as it took shape just before dinnertime Sunday Nov 30th after one last trip to the store that afternoon. I knew I had gotten it right when my sister in law (not exactly a SW geek but she loves Chewbacca) walked past my work area and said "That is an awesome lightsaber!"

I spent the rest of the stress-filled evening taking pix and uploading them. First I couldn't find the USB cable for my camera. Then my internet was down. (Dear God, please smite the Hughes.net satellite!) I finally decided to drive into town with the lap top and went wardriving for an unsecure network connection just to email my entry.

So by way of apologizing for commiting a minor felony, I'd like to make a big shout out to Talman Tire & Auto Center of Rome NY.

Note to self: I need to start a business where I teach local 'Mom & Pop's' how to put password protection on their wireless routers.

If model paint, is what you need, you'll have no trouble finding it at Hobby town. I have some friends that work at the one here in Columbus, Ohio. and I get all my Model paint there. They have a wide selection of colors and brands. :)

Unfortunately I didn't get by HobbyTown. The wife decided to go with me, so a two-hour run turned into an eight-hour day-trip with only *one* of my stops getting done :unsure

The result is that I only got two colours (plus the base black), no mattes, so it'll be very basic with no weathering. Ah well, I didn't figure I'd come close to winning anyway, but at least I'll be able to get an entry in--and that's really what counts :cheers

Done! Just waiting for the glue to dry and will have pics in this afternoon. Thank goodness for that reinterpretation of the deadline. Mine was all but finished last night, and if I'd pushed, I could have had it submitted. But I was feeling so lousy that I just went to bed.

I've not quite got mine done yet hope to get it finished this evening (I'll be cutting it close). I didn't get a chance to do anything with the saber yesterday but the wife and kids will be out of the house for a bit this evening so I shouldn't have any problem getting it done, thank goodness for that extra day. If I end up not making the deadline I'll still post pics when I get it done. This was my first saber and I had a blast making it.

I just can't wait to see how many people's looks the exact same :lol

We all went to pretty much the same stores, with the same items in them. And then I saw somebody posted about parts he used and I realized i had used the same parts too! haha

i wondered that myself. i tried to stay away from stuff i figured everybody would use. with the main body being the only exception.

anybody else use an ovulation predictor? :wacko

Actually, I was very surprised on that front. I don't want to say too much. ( since there are some folks left to send in theirs, and I don't want to discourage them, by saying too much about those that have already sent in their pics.)

However, I will say this. Wall, I do admit there are a few entries, that seem to have used one, or maybe two of the same parts, what people did with them was very different. (for the most part.) Actually, the funniest part is that a secondary theme (secondary to the $1. store parts, that is) kind of emerged, some how, throughout many of the sabers. (having nothing to do with the $1. store parts they used. :) ) I guess great minds think a like. :) Don't get me wrong, almost non of the sabers look much alike, at all, I'm just saying a lot of folks had the same basic idea of how to add a little something extra. (how's that for a teas? :b)

I've been uncharacteristic organized with the entries I've received SO FAR. So, barring any problems, and as long as no-ones "midnight tonight" is past my "midday tomorrow". (get it? it's a time zone thing, meaning I hope I have all the pics by tomorrow night, my time. ) I hope to start the voting at 12:01AM tomorrow night (my time.) Confused yet? I am! :) (and you aren't the one trying to read foreign receipt for the first time. :lol) This is in no way a promise, just my hope.

I think it would be best, when the time comes, to start a crisp new thread for the voting, and see if we can get it stuck. (and then we could un-stick this one) What do you all think?

Wow I didn't even see those while I was browsing the Dollar Store.

All in all this was a very fun contest, I doubt I'll win anything but it was a darn good time this month.

I hope not a lot of people used the same stuff as I did. I walked around the store, picking up what I thought were the obvious ideas, put it all back, then came home and browsed through characters with various styles and came up with a theme and building material that I thought no one would do. I sure hope I was right.
