The 2009 "$1 Store" Lightsaber Contest.

I hope not a lot of people used the same stuff as I did. I walked around the store, picking up what I thought were the obvious ideas, then browsed through characters with various styles and came up with a theme and building material that I thought no one would do. I sure hope I was right.

I probably went about it the wrong way. I just made what I thought it should look like. Having never made a saber before it's probably bland in comparison to some of the other entries! I should have maybe done some research. Lol...

You all have been WAY too hard on yourselves this month, Of all the entries I have received so are, non of them are bland, or anything like that. You'll all see in a little over a day, or so, that you all have a LOT to be proud of. :)

I'm just kicking myself for not making it one of the rules that you all have to give me your sabers after this thing is over. Oh, well, maybe next year. :)

I really wanted to make a saber from $1. store parts, so I was hoping someone else would have done this, but now I'm glad I decided to host instead, because you have all done fare better then any thing I would have come up with. I mean, may good ness, back when I was in one of these, years ago, I never considered if anyone else might be using a part, or any thing like that. I was worried with the decline of the Mom, and Pop places, and everything becoming dollar tree, and dollar tree caring so many less, Lightsaberish parts, that it would be too much of a challenge, but here you all rose to the challenge, and did a fantast job of it.

I wont be voting, since I'm the host, but I glad I wont, becasue I couldn't pic just one. Everytime I get a new entry my jaw drops, and I think I know my favorite, but then another one arives, and it's just as godd as the others. :)

Those that haven't sent yours in yet, don't be discouraged by this post, I eagerly look forward to seeing all of your entries. :)

Just sent you my entry Jason. I tried to PM it to you first but it didn't work so it should be in your Email. Can you confirm you got it? I want to make sure I meet the deadline.

ARRRGH!

Just getting an entry submitted will, I believe, count as a win for me. Due to various circumstance I knew I wasn't going to be detailing or weathering, but I had no idea that half-way through the painting (approximately 7:30 this evening) the paint and glue would have a reaction and the whole thing would fall apart.

I've got it back together and am working on fixing/redoing/incorporating the mess, but at this point midnight looks like a pipe-dream. I'm still trying for it--but like Grundy I'll be sending pics whether I make the deadline or not.

I've had a lot of fun and learned a lot about under-pressure scratch-building, number one being go ahead and make time early to get your supplies...lol...

WooHoo! So...are we supposed to vote for ourselves, or will there automatically be one added to our total for us?

I hope it's not automatic--I'm pretty sure I'll be voting for someone else's. Not that I'm not proud of what I've been able to do so far, but I'm sure there will be better sabers...

Well, hopefully no body will vote for their own because honestly that's pretty sh*tty, but I guess there'd be no way to stop it.

Actually I haven't decided yet. Part of me wants to ask each of you to vote for someone other then yourselves. Just to make sure that the best saber wins, and that every vote, including each of yours, goes to the best saber. Then again, I do know that a person voting for themselves, is often done to boost confidence, and odds.

I would just say vote for whoever you want, but if most people did vote for themselves, then it would kind of tip everyone off to who, owns witch saber, but if I just give you all one point to start with, the it would king of be point less, since 1, vote, or 0, you would all start at the same place. (if you fallow.)

I am leaning towards the idea of having each of you voting for a saber other then your own.

Since I will have to get to bad at some point later tonight, I just want to let you all konw that if I don't get right back to you about getting your entry that's why. I'll be going through any new entries in the morning, and getting back to each of you then. Don't forget I will be going by the date, and time, on your e-mail, or PM, so you still need to get it in before 12:00 tonight in your time zone.

Yahoo!

Well, I got *something* in. Looks pretty crappy overall, compared to most sabers I've seen, but considering I ended up having to do about 70% of the (re)construction and 100% of the paint in 3 hours, and I had no time to retouch or weather it, and most of the paint was still wet when I took the pictures 10 minutes ago, I'm d@mn3d proud of how it turned out.

And now I gotta get to work--already a half-hour late to make sure I hit the deadline :lol

E-mail sent,, I'm sorry, but yoru missing a few pics, required in the rules.

Everyone else, I am trying to get at least 3 pics of each of your finished sabers. the rest of you that have submited pics are all set. (exept 1 other, and I'll be contacting them now. ) I know it wasn't in the rules, but I have 3 finished saber pics ready to go for most of you, and i just want everyone to have the same odds.

Also, if I haven't recieve an entry from you yet, please remember what pics are required in the rules.

"A scan of all receipts that pertain to the contest (if there are only a few items used for the contest, and the rest are for your own consumption, please circle, or underline, the items used for the lightsaber.)

A picture of the parts before construction (preferably in package, but if you have to open them, to show what they are, that's fine.)

And, at least one good picture of your finished lightsaber." (I've added the part about 3 pics of each saber because that is the average I have been recieving, and there will be 3 finished saber pics posted for each member that submitted one.)

I really, really, REALLY, don't want to turn away any entries for not haveing the requirments. I konw it may seem silly, but the rules, are the rules, and everyone else has taken the time to follow them.

I cannot wait to see the builds. To see how cool they are and to try and figure out what mundane items have wrought such futuristic weaponry.

Also, Jonny5s wardriving story(post #169) was great.

Crap. I'm at work now, and the camera is at home--nothing I can do about it. I *did* take pictures of the pre-constructed parts and the receipt--I can't believe I forgot to send them, but that's what happens when I get in a hurry. I'll send them first thing when I get home in the morning.
