TFA Stormtrooper Bucket & Armor...Old School Sculpting: Snowie P.8

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

You must be over the moon it's turned out so well , I know I would be if I had sculpted it, looks nice and clean and I love the shine it has, it's be a fantastic thread you have shown on this and I hope to see you in a fully finished suit soon, good job:love

Re: TFA Stormtrooper Bucket & Armor...Old School Sculpting

Thanks! Yes, i am very happy with how it turned out. It was frustrating at times, trying to figure out what was off, and all the changes that had to be made. But it was a great journey.

Finishing up the armor. I hope to have it done by the end of the week to show you guys. Thanks again!

Re: TFA Stormtrooper Bucket & Armor...Old School Sculpting

And I look forward to seeing it completed!

Re: TFA Stormtrooper Bucket & Armor...Old School Sculpting

Discovered a problem with my flexible fiberglass ab section: The rigid boxes pop off when the ab armor flexes. I'll have to cast a rigid ab section, trim and attach the boxes to this, make a new silicone mold then cast everything as one piece in flexible fiberglass. Hitting several birds with one stone: No more need to trim and glue the boxes and ab section will be flexible and adjustable as one whole piece.

Small updates:
1) Attached a hard hat liner to the bucket. I riveted squares of velcro unto the mounting tabs of the liner and glued the corresponding velcro inside the helmet. Holds up well, but the constant velcro crackling noise inside is kind of irritating. :)

2) Finished building the belt. I'm missing one box to attach to one of the two soft pouches. Does anyone have a clear pic or two of what the pouches look like and how big they are? I'd very much appreciate the help.

3) Experimented with a new way to attach the belt boxes and possibly the thermal detonator: Chicago screws + key holes

4) Attaching the belt to the codpiece with snaps. Adjusted shoulders on harness.

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

This is amazeballs! I'm starting the build this weekend as well. Hopefully I can get my 3D printer working again so I can start on the helmet. Thanks to myminifactory, they've uploaded the file for the helmet.

Do you have a link for the armor templates or does anybody here for that matter? I would be eternally grateful!!!

Re: TFA Stormtrooper Bucket & Armor...Old School Sculpting

Oh i sculpted the armor from scratch and molded and casted it in flexible fiberglass. :)

I was actually considering doing the same with the expanding foam and carving that up so it's nice to see someone do it with foam and it work out.

I was actually refering to the pics you had printed off of the helmet and armor that you used to cut the shape out in the foam board. I noticed you had the forearm pieces printed off as well and to me that's going to be the hardest part to eye ball. Do you have the pics available somewhere for us to download and print off?

Re: TFA Stormtrooper Bucket & Armor...Old School Sculpting

I made the templates by tracing over reference pics and extrapolating as best as i could to the exact size. :) Pretty easy to do. :)

Hi Jim, This is Albert Leong ( TK 2818 ) from the 501st Singapore Garrison. Please bring a TFA Stormtrooper Bucket for me. See you in Singapore on 13/9/2015.

Re: TFA Stormtrooper Bucket & Armor...Old School Sculpting

One last piece being painted then my armor is done. While waiting, i thought i'd post how my armor is worn:

Re: TFA Stormtrooper Bucket & Armor...Old School Sculpting

This is what the raw set looks like. This is made of durable, flexible lightweight fiberglass which won't crack. The ab armor will have the boxes integrated in a 1 piece cast. Some minor work will need to be done for the right and left specific parts. There are some surface imperfections from the molding process, so some surface finishing may need to be done before painting.

Re: TFA Stormtrooper Bucket & Armor...Old School Sculpting

Here's the finished prototype armor. It's made of flexible fiberglass, surface finished and painted with polyurethane auto paint. So far, there is no sign of cracking in the paint, even with semi-extreme flexing. It's heavier than my ABS TK, much lighter and a LOT more comfortable than my rigid fiberglass Animated Clone. It's a very simple build compared to either TK or Clone. Basically, just make a harness, and go. Because it's flexible, i think it'll fit a wide range of sizes. It'll also be easy to resize if necessary. My fiberglass guy also says that it's thermoplastic and can be reshaped with a heatgun but i haven't tried. I needed help putting it on (the thermal det) but i could take it off myself. I need to add more velcro to my knee gaskets as they were slipping down. In this pic i am 5'8.5" 185 lbs with a 38" waistline. I wish i were taller. And thinner.

Re: TFA Stormtrooper Bucket & Armor...Old School Sculpting: FINISHED P.3

Thanks! The CRL for the FOTK is still being formulated. I monitored the thread and tried to keep everything approvable. :)
