TFA Stormtrooper Bucket & Armor...Old School Sculpting: Snowie P.8

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

@ dejordzta - Thanks! Getting ready to cast a first batch.
@ Zanderonline - Thanks!
@ AI May - Thank you. Yes, something was off about the first sculpt and, at the time, i just couldn't figure it out. Sometimes you just have to step away from a project then come back to it with fresh eyes....and a LOT of reference pic print outs. I finally happy with how it went and i hope you guys are too.

Here's a sneak peek at the armor:

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

Man you have been busy, looking good !

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

^ Not as busy as i'd like to be. I hope to have most of the armor parts cast by this week. :)

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

More old school scartch building: PVC + marker cap = TFA mic tip.

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

I'd love to make a more deserving comment, but I'm to busy picking my jaw up off the floor.;)

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

Subscribed! That is one of the best helmets I've seen. Looking forward to seeing the entire suit.

Almost there....
Stay on target....

Waiting for the last few parts! This flexible fiberglass is awesome. It's like rubber. :)

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

Looks very nice , look forward to seeing the black and lenses fitted,

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

Test fitting the raw unpainted armor on the harness i made. It's much more comfortable than clone armor...maybe even more than tk armor. Pretty easy to move around too. But difficult to suit up on your own.
So far the glued (grecco888+e6000) snaps are holding. But the industrial strengh velcro pads were slipping as evidenced by the lopsided shoulders and arms. So i'll need to reinforce it with glue as well.
I'm also wearing the upper cloth gaskets.
I did have to trim off the bottom of the thighs as they were a bit too long for me. I wish i were taller. frown emoticon
For those wondering about size, i'm 5'8.5", 185lbs, with a 38 waistline. (i know, i know. :/). But the flexible fiberglass will make for versatile fitting whether bigger or smaller. The material is also thermoplastic so you can reshape with a heat gun if necessary. So the abs, chest, back can be made thinner or wider with minimal work.
Next i'll be testing how well it takes paint and how the paint on the flexible parts hold up to the bending.

Looking good!! Glad to see fan made TFA suits are being made.

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

Here's how flexible this fiberglass is:

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

Never seen fibreglass that can move that much without cracking, what a useful product you have found there.

Updates:

1) Here's my finished helmet. I used a cut down black tinted motorcycle visor as a one-piece lens. I've also cut out the mouth and hot glued some plastic hexagonal mesh and covered the back with black stocking material for better breathability.

2) The flexible fiberglass takes paint very very well. The paint also flexes with the armor without cracking. Full speed ahead with this!

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

Looks fantastic, the one small thing that I think needs to be changed is the small greeblies on the helmet are too tall making them much too noticeable.

Re: Another TFA Stormtrooper Bucket...Old School Sculpting

Thanks! About the latches: I actually did that on purpose. It serves as sort of my trade mark? In case someone tries to recast it. Tall greeblies = my sculpt. Besides, they are very easy to sand if you want 'em lower. :)
