TFA Graflex Research (That's a Graflex, right? Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

I'm sorry if one's been posted but I'm still slowly making my way through this thread. Would any of you graflex owners mind posting a clear photo of the glass eye in a graflex? I'm doing a mod of a toy anakin saber hilt for a cheaper
Rey
prop and would like to get a clearer idea of the look I'm going for with resin/paint.
Thanks in advance!

There's a vintage glass eye on ebay for pretty cheap right now, it doesn't say if it has the actual glass lens though or if it is just the bracket for it:

You won't want that one if you plan on adding a glass eye. It's designed to work differently than a standard focusing eye, probably using a cable, so you won't be able to add a glass eye or spring to it. (That's also why it's so cheap compared to the other ones offered.)

Whoops, good to know! Thanks for clarifying!

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

We've seen the clamp material on display pieces. But in the movie, I bet they just digitally erased "Graflex." The clamp covering doesn't look like it would hold up to a lot of handling. And the clamp looks no thicker onscreen.

I don't think so. The same gold-ish coloring from the display props is seen on screen indicating TO ME that it is covered just like the display props.

I hope you're right--hard to have an exact replica otherwise! And I guess it is the cheaper, easier option.

Ok, it's imperfect, but here is my TFA inspired Lightsaber, my one Christmas Gift. I'll do rivets and make changes when I get an accurate bottom, but here it is...

I took one of these, chopped it down and epoxyed a clear rubber bumper inside it to make a glass eye for a hardware Graflex around 15 years ago. A good low cost alternative to paying ebay prices for an original glass eye.

That pic clearly shows that the grips do NOT go all the way to the end. In fact they look to be about 1/8" from the end as well as about 1/8" (or a hair less) away from the clamp.

I think the one facing us is shorter than the ones on either side.

i was just going to post the same thing, i too noticed the bronze clamp cover

You can see the short grips and the 1/8 inch gap from the (unused) teaser scene.

The stunts (and Disney) version may be different, but the true on-screen Hero prop seems to have the shorter grips.

i swear the one in the snow had long grips, i was paying close attention because i remember the launch bay saber having long grips. i was really pissed off too when i saw that they we long when in the snow

roy do u have a picture of it in the snow? maybe I'm confused but i almost would bet my life on it

The snow scene the grips are all the way to the bottom for sure. Meaning there has to be two heroes. If you want to call a saber embedded in the snow a hero.

oh thank the maker, i was second guessing myself for a minute. i knew they were long!

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

I was looking for it. I'd have snapped a pic but it seemed rude given the company. I'll wait until it dies down a little bit and get a shot. I'm wondering if they were trying to make compromises because the fx sabers had quite thicker bottoms. The toy poster with Finn and that fx saber looks like it's 5mm or more. I'm not sure why the couldn't just use cg to erase those antennaes and bottoms.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

This hero has big tall grips that go all the way up to the clamp. I believe this is the snow saber.

The one in Maz Kanatas the box is not the same. T Tracks or grip length.

This one is the FX with the thick (5mm?) bottom.

This is the non used Kanata shot with the big tall grips that are full length.

Oh and VD saber with short grips.

I think rivets or hex heads are the least of screen accurate problems. I think we'll have to name the sabers depending on who's holding them at the time.:lol

i read this morning that Maz passes the saber to leia in the resistance control room. they filmed maz going back with han chewie, and finn to the resistance base and then cut the scenes. remember there is a scene with finn and han standing in the control room and the saber is in his coat

Yes, I read that too. If we know that was filmed, and that scene had the longer grips than for sure there are at least two hero hilts used excluding FX sabers. Seems lazy of them, but only crazy people like us on the RPF notice these things. :lol
