TFA Graflex Research (That's a Graflex, right? Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

No, the unused Maz scene saber had the short grips, same as the Maz box and the VD.

You can see 2 grips here 1/8 inch short of the clamp.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

Or... There could be a simpler explanation...

There is a small bit of play with the Graflex bottom tube - it can be pushed in slightly or pulled out slightly from the clamp; but only by a couple of mm.

In my lightsaber build thread I was lamenting that I had cut my T-tracks to Gino's specifications, but they seemed short when the tube bottom was pulled out all the way. However, if I pushed it in, it looked fine...

This could just be a case of the tube bottom being "pushed in" in some shots and "pulled out" in other shots.

Yep, this could be the case.
I wasted a set of Gino's grips using the same measurements instead of measuring for myself. Lesson learned.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

What is the ideal length of the bottom?

How far out should it be?

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

In the 2nd teaser I see them all the way to the bottom but with a gap on top, I like them like that since it gives opportunity to remove the bottom from the clamp, this is what I took to the cinema, the bottom is pulled out so the clamp gets a firm hold of it, you can see I did not got all the grips right with some at 92mm while others at 91mm. Just 1mm difference is enough to get noticed. that's 1/16 of an inch.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

i swear the one in the snow had long grips, i was paying close attention because i remember the launch bay saber having long grips. i was really pissed off too when i saw that they we long when in the snow

roy do u have a picture of it in the snow? maybe I'm confused but i almost would bet my life on it

Here's a picture of the saber in the snow. It's very unsharp. I didn't take it myself.

we know the master replica anikan skywalker ROTS saber has a 6mm space between the bottom of the saber and the grip

looking at the master replica I don't think TFA saber has that big of a space

my guess now is just a 1/8" space on the TFA saber but that is only a guess

Regardless of the clamp space the picture of the saber in Leia's hand has the grips all the way to the bottom of the tube. It looks like it goes to the clamp as well to me but hard to tell from the angle. This picture is very tough to tell but when I saw it in the theatre I was sure. Of course I could be wrong. Either way one version has grips all the way to the bottom.

Oh and in Roy's picture I see tall grips. Taller than the maz kanata box shot.

I'm not sure that's the same shot as the one in Leia's hand. That saber has tall grips too unlike maz kanatas box saber. Also the grips appear to end at the bottom of the tube. And of course it's a CG shot when in kanatas hand but not Leia's.

In the unused Maz teaser scene, it's the exact same saber from Maz's hand to Leia's. No cut-aways and no CG on the saber. A stand-in wearing a blue/green glove handed the saber and the hand was replaced, not the saber.

In the unused Maz scene the saber has short grips, same as the VD shots. There may have easily been 2 hero sabers used.

We have super clear photos of the VD and the Wired photo shoot, but without Blu-Ray/4K, behind the scenes footage, or set photos this is really all just speculating and shooting in the dark about what we see in the movie.

I agree. It is surprising to me how many variations they have wether screen used or not!

I could be misremembering, or thinking of the ESB.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

I think the launch bay display saber just had the clamp card the wrong way, I'm 85% sure the clamp lines point to the left in the film.
