Teaser: My new lightsaber "working" blade

Wow, thanks for the compliments all.

Purple, purple, purple. Ok, I will look into doing a purple blade once I kickstart the other colors. My mace also took a dump, so I do want to replace that one as well. :) The MR mace is really blue with a pink diffuser, I am going to look at a true purple color myself...

Kell, you should replace the entire guts of the MR - my driver board will fit inside the MR and replace their electronics.

BTW if you are doing your own hilt the mininum ID should be 1". All my electronics are 1" wide max. The blade assemblies are the same size as the MR sabers since I am retrofitting, but they can be made smaller if necessary. More on that later.

These are not for order yet. I am still working on things. If/when I decide to make a "list" I will start a different thread....

I'd like to know if we can just use your blade (or make your blade) and just use the sound and motion board from an FX.

I'm financially challenged and your current sound board is nice, but way too much for what I'm needing now.

and will you offer a DIY kit or just finished blades.

THANKS..

hurry hyperdyne, i want to see some pics.............

and yellow, do yellow, and organge, and possible silver/gray, but do yellow first

ddid i mention yellow?

He already answered this:

if you retrofitted your MR then you could still have the sound if you rewired up their sound board to the new guts. It would take some small modifications but it could be done...

Oh, what can be said that hasn't been said already. My major concern will be affordability though. I know your hyperdyne products have always been top notch but have also always been out of my financial range (the great vortex board above all). Knowing that I would love to take at least two of these blade kits (red and blue of course), maybe even more (green and maybe another red and blue), I can't imagine you would price them so even two wouldn't be out of my range already.

However, as it shows the world has been desperately waiting for you, so maybe you can realize this in sufficiantly large numbers to keep the costs reasonably low?

I don't have any MR FX saber yet, but a large collection of real flash handle saber hilts and EL sabers which all would be good candidates for upgrades. I am very curious to hear about your price range ideas.

Can't wait to see these becoming available.

Thanks for your efforts.

H.

DM, I hear you and I hope to get enough made to keep the price reasonable...

On to other news, durability test #2 was a "smashing" success to say the least. :lol

We did another test at about 80% of "full throttle" and the new blade held up wonderfully. In fact, the other saber didnt make the cut, as our MR Vader FX blade snapped in two.... :eek

So I now recommend that anyone who engages in spirited fighting not do so with an FX saber. Here is ours next to the busted MR saber afterwards:

We were shooting a small video to show off, I actually hope to post it soon. It was originally going to be reshot since I turned my saber off midway by accident. But capturing the busted MR on video was enough to satisfy our durability test for the night. :)

....very interested to see the new vid.....good to hear that your blade withstood the abuse test.

.....anxiously awaiting the forthcoming (hopefully) interest thread.

Isn't MR's tube and your tube both made out of polycarb? How did MR's blade break if they are both polycarb? Was it the way MR's blade was secured?

How will two of your blades hold up to sparing? I know this will be an expensive test and will require two of your prototypes. But I think that's what all this is leading to. Simply awesome.

Well that is a good question. I too thought the MR blade was polycarbonate. But it appears that it may actually be acrylic. :eek Or at least defective/brittle polycarb. It busted in two like nothing else I've seen (except for our old plasma blades Mark). :)

Both blades were secured in the same way in the same hilt. The MR blade snapped right at the emitter. :unsure

Okay, I've been hanging back on posts in the recent past but this thing ROCKS .

I am in for blue or purple or both sound, lights all of it.

Please add me to your mighty list .

Thanks
Ken

That is weird. The MR site does say the blades are made out of polycarbonate.

Yeah plasma. I remember. Those were pioneer days. I remember I wanted a working saber so bad I didn't care if it shocked me. :eek

Hehehehehe, I remember that too way back at C1. Lots of fun was had, too bad noone would let us get past the coat rack section. :)

I dont know what to make of the blade - if it was polycarb it was weak as heck. Maybe it was acrylic and they advertise it as polycarb, who knows really.

At any rate, here is the video of the MR blade busting in two. This was going to be reshot if it wasnt for the classic moment of the MR saber blade going "limp". :lol

Hyperdyne blade vs. MR blade

Thats incredible. And to be honest...it looked like you guys weren't even really hittin that hard. I went outside and went to town with my MR against my friends crap collapsable Rubies saber...and its held up. Now is it an older FX that you were using for the Control MR or is it a newer one as well?

Either way, i look QUITE forward to these.

I'm surprised it still continued to light up after it busted, it looks pretty funny like that. Also, did I see the hyperdyne blade flickering? Were you hitting the button, or are you working on a "flashing" feature like we've all been hoping for from MR? That would add to the sweetness factor.

We were going about 80% power on the sabers. It's hard to tell with 5fps video, but you can hear the impact. Plus blade on blade creates a pretty good inelastic collision.

I was using a Vader ANH as the MR control. I can see an MR holding up against a plastic Rubies, the impact is not as intense since you are hitting against soft plastic. Its quite a bit more elastic. Try hitting against another "polycarb" blade and I think the outcome will be different. :)

BTW, we just did our 100% durability test. Another "smashing" success. :lol This time an old MR Anakin EL saber was the test subject. It didnt last but 3 hits before it busted. Bad news is I am all out of working MR control sabers now...

Well, you know what comes next ... Hyperdyne Blade 1 vs. Hyperdyne Blade 2. See how far you can REALLY go.

Actually, the real next step is just to make these available already. :eek

I think the next step is fencing lessons... No flips? No twirls? Not even a simple force-thrust?

Come on... :lol

I'm still #1 on the list for green... I called dibs somewhere on this thread. :p
