Teaser: My new lightsaber "working" blade

I'm missing something here, as a lover (and buyer) of hyperdyne parts, I'm more interested in the brightness and effects of the electronics (which need to withstand impact w/o being shut off mid duel :):):):)) , and less concerned with the material science questions on the strengths of polycarbonate tubes. I would assume (you know what can happen then), most buyers are moving from EL & Luxeon sabers in accurate hilts to whatever you produce. FX sabers have already been well surpassed, even the newer LED variety.

I agree. For stage duelling I am quite used to pulling off the blow before the blades would meet, this is common practice. From what I have seen the durability provided so far seems very useful for stage duelling. No worries on that from my side. Of course any added stabilty wouldn't hurt but it doesn't seem compulsory.

Brightness & sound - and of course affordability - are my major interests in this matter.

I agree, the electronics are what I am attempting to perfect. I think you will be happy with the final results. But that also means having something that doesnt bust when you hit 2 blades together. Lots of people dont believe that the blade can do all that, so I have to prove them wrong. :p

I will have some more videos on the new sound board and blades soon. A green and blue blade are going to be manufactured sometime this week...

Well, you know what comes next ... Hyperdyne Blade 1 vs. Hyperdyne Blade 2. See how far you can REALLY go.

Actually, the real next step is just to make these available already. :eek

I second that, anything that will show up just as well in daylight would be sweet :thumbsup

We have been busy so updates have been lacking. But we do have good news. :)

Both the in-the-hilt soundboard and bluetooth wireless sound board designs are finally finished.. They have been tested with our new blade driver board and they work great. All the new incorporated features are working well too, which include:

1) Multi speed force-feedback vibration unit.
2) Auto swing and clash sounds.
3) Synchronized with blade driver board.

The in-the-hilt version uses a small speaker to playback the sounds.

The bluetooth version still works with the PC, and it sounds awesome. It also seamlessly hooks into our blade driver board for synchronized sound and lights. The PC also now talks back to the saber hilt feeding it information on what sounds are being played back. That has never before been accomplished.

A blue and green demo saber blade are both being assembled as we speak. Hopefully later in the week we will have pics up of these new colors.... :D

It's great to see some news about the in-hilt sound board and speaker. Looking forward to pics of the green and blue blades. :D

Thanks. Things are moving slowly but we will get there.

BTW, I just picked up the blue blade. Will install it later tonight. :)

Did a quick install of the blue blade, it turned out to be very bright. Here is a comparison pic of the new blade next to a couple EL sabers. :)

:love :love :love

That looks amazing.

Any longevity tests done yet? How quickly does it go through a set of batteries?

The off the floor test will be a good one but it's a hard comparison w/o a black blackdrop and pitch black/no flash (but it should show the incredible differences.

Question: Does the solution require the abnormally wide "FX" diameter tube or will a common EL diameter tube work?

You can "pretend" its an Anakin on Mustafar if it makes you feel any better :)

I just see the thread subtitle that the blue blade is done and there is no blue blade in the excellent hyperdyne ordering page :eek (I know, I know, soon enough, soon enough)

Thanks. We have done some initial tests on battery life. Right now I am using a rechargeable pack, it seems to last about 30-45 minutes continuous. I havent done a rigorous test as its been easy to plug it in and give it a charge when needed.

Thanks all. The blade turned out to be brighter than first expected. I am working on some tweaks to the blade right now. The comparison pic was taken under the same lighting, no flash, so it does give you a direct representation of the differential brightness between all the sabers.

The electronics do not require the 1" diameter tube, but it does help with blade diffusion. So if you can get a smaller properly diffused blade then everything will fit inside a 0.5" ID tube.

Kev, if you send me your Vader FX I dont think it would make it through the torture tests. It might be returned with a snapped off blade. :lol

All I have right now is this Vader hilt, so I have to swap out the red, blue, and green blades to demo the colors. So dont focus too much on the hilt. Heck I figured any color saber could go inside a Vader hilt, no? ;)

Once I get some more blade tubing in stock in I hope to have a red vs. blue video done soon.
