New in-the-hilt sound board protos are being manufactured as we speak.

Very cool. I might be more interested in the sound boards than I am the blade. Have you had any success finding an acceptible speaker to do "full in-hilt sound"?

Well if you dont like insanely bright duelable blades then that is a problem. :lol

I have a few speakers that will handle the job, but you still have the age-old issue of attempting to get impressive sound from such a small speaker + enclosure. You can only do so much. That is why I prefer wireless myself....

Now... now... I never said I didn't like the blade, just that I'm more interested in the sound :angel There are a lot of blade options (of widely varying quality) on the market, but sound is proving tough to come by.

I certainly appreciate the limitations of in-hilt sound. However, I can not haul a sound system around with me (and have no need to do so), so "full in-hilt" sound is a necessity. I don't need "impressive sound". "Really good" sound will be quite sufficient :D

...would this work in conjunction with your Vortex amp?

Vortex doesnt handle wireless sound generation, it is basically a real-time voice changing system.

For wireless sound you have to use a PC (or Mac if you are like Ben Burtt :p) to analyze the hilt movements and then generate proper sound effects. So typically a laptop, desktop, or handheld computer is connected to some external speakers or stereo system to play out the DVD-quality sound effects. The hilt also receives information back from the PC telling it to "do" certain things...

Yeah, it already works. :) I actually made an in-the-hilt sound board ages ago - it didnt seem to catch on way back then. So I just recently updated the design and added a few new things....

Indeed. I was about to decide I would have to buy MR FX sabers with damaged blades to kit-bash for sound boards. While I have not abandoned that plan, I love the possibility of having another option. I am very interested in seeing where this project goes.

I have at least three custom sabers I want to build for myself (two single blades, and one double), and while the hilt designs are pretty much nailed down, the "guts" are very much an open project (which is why the hilt designs are not finalized). Right now I'm favoring a hilt mounted Luxeon, but if this project leads to a product I can purchase... then I will certainly reconsider that option. As I stated before, full in saber sound options are few and far between. I'm watching this thread with great interest.

I have ebayed a damaged saber... So ready for this to be realized...
This is why I joined RPF... :p

keep the good times coming Hyperdyne .....

Kell, which saber was damaged? I may pick up a few hilts to retrofit for some friends.

I also just got most of the parts to complete a blue and green saber.... :) So after the holidays let the fun begin...

We supply a computer program with our wireless sound system that controls and playbacks the sounds for you. All you have to do is hook everything up.

I got a MR darth vader FX. pretty cheap. the blade is damaged- has spots that dont light up. I know we cant show live auctions, however if one searches for
damaged lightsabers you will probably find a bunch.

MR actually has a eBay shop (not run by them but close to them) that sells all their busted stuff for good prices. If you buy it and know how or who to fix it up you're golden.

MR actually isn't selling them, they contract returned stuff to an ebay company (seller's name: AJcollecting) to sell it, but it's not MR selling.

I have a returned Mace saber, which only has a few dark spots...I was going to turn it into a belt hanger, but now with these blade kits, it might see new life.
