SyFy Channel's Face Off Television Show

I thought the beetle was incredible given the time they had and thought it was a shame that it didn't win. I also thought the actress who played the beetle put more into her character than anyone else.

I too liked the beetle. The girl inside did a great job "twitching" and moving quickly in a bug-like manner.

And yeah, that ostrich thing looked like something from the Rubies catalog.

I'm usually able to separate the drama from the talent/work in this type of show, which ups the entertainment value they give me. I enjoyed the show, and although I agree that the personalities seemed to be the focus rather than the work, that's often the case for the first few episodes of shows like this. After a month or so, the hacks are kicked off, and you start to see some talent show through. I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt until that happens.

It's too bad the ant didn't win but i think it was the right call given the Vader helmet. The Conner entry was more professional looking to me too. Not that i know what pro makeup looks like, it's just looked cleaner and what i would expect to see from pros. I'll definatly watch it again if for nothing else other than to see the process.

I liked the first episode, as I'm interested in make-up FX... however... does this count as reality televsion? If so... I may not be able to look at myself in the mirror again if I'm watching it.

Sounds like they stepped out of the effects program at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh lol. I couldn't get into it sadly and i usually love watching stuff about makeup effects and model making.

Two of them when to the Savini school. I swear Frank looks like a guy that was a year behind me at AIP.

I'm still giving it a chance. I think we saw the final four in the top two teams of the first episode. I thought the "craft services" challenge was interesting and very telling. I've heard many stories where one had to "work out of the kit" under a couple hour deadline.

I'm really starting to wish I'd snuck down to the IDT area when Savini would drop in back then lol. I'll watch if nothing else is on and i remember to tune it in for sure. I'd be interested in one shot in Pittsburgh between the Savini students and the AIP students.

Just like Spielberg's disastrous "reality" show to find the next great filmmaking talent, this show will not
1) discover any significant new talent
2) be about anything having to do with the real industry

If they want to get them ready for the real industry, they should have them have a shop cleaning challenge.
The top persons on the show already have a lengthy list of experience in the industry.

I agree, Frank is an ass that hopefully will get booted soon. His tattoo work was a joke...but in the end Sergio was way out of his league and had to go.

Just watched the first show. You could make a drinking game with the number of times they say "literally".

Still, looked good enough.

It's a fun effort. I enjoy watching what they can come up with in the allotted time. Even the failures are entertaining. But that's all it's intended to be, entertainment.

Also it's fun to wonder what you'd do with some of these projects. At least that's where my mind goes with it.

I dont know how Franks elevator piece of crap was not in the bottom three. I thought the jungle piece was very well done.

Frank might be a total jerk, and the whole lampshade thing was ridiculous, but in the end, I actually thought he pulled off the elevator piece pretty well.

I was really disappointed with most of the pieces, but the one that won was absolutely stunning.

I am becoming more and more annoyed that this is falling into fomulaic reality tv with the props aspect being a premise more than a purpose and it really being more about deviant personalities and social interaction than skillsets. :(

That piece that won this week was stunning. I also thought the jungle was better then they gave credit for as was Conners. Honestly they were all pretty good even though i don't think Sergio followed the "plan" it wasn't bad, just lacking body painting, which was the point of the contest. In the end i think the right ones are winning and the less than stellar performances are getting kicked off which is what matters.

Should we be putting spoiler alerts on all this?

^Wha? It was just a naked dude in front of a tornado. Sergio was a nice guy, but man...that was a WEAK attempt with the six hours of time he had. I loved his justification to the judges regarding his use of time. "I used makeup to darken his skin". He fumbled...big.

I'm looking forward to tonight's episode. Michael Westmore will be on it. Should be a pretty cool "alien" challenge.

Wow...the last three post have been made by me. I just may be the only one still watching this:confused:lol Well, anyway...I thought some of the alien designs were great and it was nice to see the location of so many great Star Trek episodes:thumbsup Oh....and YAY!!! Frank is GONE:)
