Supernatural Props.What Ya Got... 4 Years 2010-2014

It's frustrating, I've found quite a few things over the years I'd love to have on Kijiji, and I couldn't even convince people to ship within Canada.

I hear ya. The frustrating thing here is this same person had the shirt in question for sale 2 years ago but on a different classified ad site. You'd think after that long without being able to unload it via meet and greet one would start considering some alternate selling methods. Aaargh! :facepalm

It's about that time for some cold beer!

The Coleman Cooler.

OK, so there's been some discussion over in the Impala thread regarding this cooler, so I thought I'd share some info to help those find the correct one.

This style of cooler was manufactured in two sizes, and at first glance, it's very easy to mistake one for the other.

Firstly, of the two sizes, the show correct cooler is the smaller of the two.

It's manufactured by Coleman. Was manufactured somewhere in the early to mid 60's - and is green (duh!) :cool

As a random, yet super-awesome fact that fits with the mythology of the show - Coleman Cooler's were, and (despite a brief stint in China), still are to this very day, manufactured in Kansas. The boys home State.

Dimensions (measurements are approximate to within 1/4"):

The large (incorrect) cooler: 22"x16"x14"

The small (correct) cooler: 18"x (will confirm & edit tomorrow)

Now, for those looking at eBay and online classified ads, with sellers that don't or won't take the time to list actual measurements, here are 3 surefire ways to confirm you're buying the correct cooler, from images.

Firstly, the front of the cooler.

On the correct (smaller) cooler, the right edge of the Coleman diamond is within a bee's dick of the middle of the cooler, through the centre-line of the latch. Like this:

coleman-correct1.jpg~original

The larger, incorrect, cooler has the diamond farther away. In most photo's the diamond simply looks smaller, but that's not the case. It only appears smaller, as the dimensions of the cooler itself are larger.

coleman-incorrect1.jpg~original

Note the distance from the centre-line to the edge of the diamond?

Now, if you only get to see images of inside the cooler, there's still two ways to tell.

1) the number of "diamonds" on the underside of the lid.
2) The placement of the "tabs" for the inner shelf.

Here's the "show" cooler again ... count the diamonds cross the underside of the lid. 10 (or 9 and almost a 10th if you want to get technical, depending which row you count).

colemancoolerdeans-lid.jpg~original

Here's the same size cooler. I've put a red dot to easily count the diamonds on the lid, and note the placement of the shelf. It only slightly passes the halfway mark (the tab the shelf sits on is at about the halfway mark.

coleman-correct2.jpg~original

Here's the inside of the larger, incorrect cooler. The diamonds on the lid count 12, and looking at the shelf tabs, it covers a little over 3/4's of the width spacing.

coleman-incorrect2-1.jpg~original

Now, there is one more thing about these coolers. You will notice on some (like in the first image I posted) that there are some small screws in the lid. These help keep the inner lining in place.

Some people use to think that the screws indicated the "correct" cooler. That's not so. I've seen both size coolers with and without lid screws. The screws themselves are indicative of nothing other than a loose inner lid. Some have them, some don't. I'm fairly certain that at some point during production, Coleman decided to add the screws as a reinforcement - on all sizes.

I've gone over dozens of screencaps of the show, and pausing my Blu-Ray's when the cooler pops up - and I've seen both screwed and non-screwed lids.

Take that as you will.

Hope this helps, and I haven't confused you too much.

Happy hunting!

I've started my annual Hellatus re-watch, and have decided to pay particular attention to the props (gotta love Blu-Ray!)

First thing in my sights, the infamous green duffle bag.

I noticed the larger bag being used at the end of episode 14 (Nightmare). The brothers are in a room/cabin, and as the walk out, it looks like Sam has the smaller one (the hard to find 3-button one), and Dean walks out with the larger one over his shoulder. Then I thought "hang on, that's a different bag again". Turns out I was right.

What I noticed, and confirmed with a few rewinds & pauses, it was not the usual Canadian 5 button bag (defined by the use of Canadian slotted buttons), but a different bag that utilises 4 brass snap-buttons. Also, it has a tape/webbing around the edges of the flap. Something the Canadian bags don't have.

Click on the image for high-res. I've also cropped a section at full-res. These images are from a caps site (http://www.homeofthenutty.com/supernatural/screencaps/), so all props to them. Watching the BluRays are even higher quality.

This was confirmed again two episodes later (#16. Shadow). Sam walks into a room carrying both size bags. The smaller in his left, and the larger slung over his right shoulder. As Dean opens it, you can clearly see it has the snap-buttons.

So, that means there is now 3 confirmed duffle bags used.

The smaller 3-button Canadian bag - shown here by mymainman Rick.
The larger 5 button Canadian bag - which I talk about in this earlier post.
The larger 4 brass snap-button bag (which I think is from US military) - that I just told you about :D

And just as I'm typing this, it pops up again in episode 20 (Something Wicked). Here it is in the trunk at the end of the episode. The edging around the flap clearly visible distinguishing it from the other two bags.

So there you have it. Another prop to try and locate.

Happy hunting folks! :lol

I discovered this a while back. I thought everyone already knew this. Rick and I discussed this. I have tracked every episode through season 5 episode 5 before I stopped. Here's what I got.

Season 1 episodes 10,14,16,18,19,20
Season 2 episodes 2, 11,13,
Season 3 episodes 6,10,12
Season 4 episodes 3,18
Season 5 episode 5

I have multiple screen grabs for every episode listed. Sometimes in several scenes in that episode. I also have the bag. I know exactly what the bag is. It's called a couple of different things, like. Parachute duffel bag, Cargo bag. Be careful if you look for these. There are a couple that look VERY similar but the straps are too close and too short. Pay close attention to the spacing. :) I'll show you mine and the one I almost got that was AMAZING.

Everyone, this is a spot on review. Truly first rate. I almost bought two of the "WRONG" bigger ones on eBay a week or so ago. They both went for exactly the same price of 51.00 oddly enough, but when I looked closely I noticed the diamond was off and the diamond on top is too small as well. Be sure you get "Dean's" cooler. :)

It's about that time for some cold beer!

It's funny. I had never noticed the bag prior to my latest re-watch. I'd always assumed it was the other version. I don't recall ever seeing it mentioned on the forums either - not that I've been through them thoroughly enough though.

The moment I saw the bag, before I made the post (but after a gazillion re-watches for confirmation), I jumped on eBay and found 2 for sale, being sold together. They are now en route to my place :) One looks brand new, the other well worn.

spn-duffle3.jpg~original

I did see the other one you mentioned a few times. The straps are very close together. Usually referred to as a "pilots" or "flight" bag. Easy to pick it. As you say, the spacing is key.

Hey everyone! Damn, the cooler and duffel bag posts are amazing! I'm definitely gonna keep my eyes peeled for those! Does anyone know anything about the knife Jo has that was her father's in Season 2 Episode 6 - No Exit? The only screenshot I could get of it was this: knife.jpg which isn't very telling...

Don't know how many people here saw the other thread, but my replica of The First Blade is almost done. I've received some images from the production that mean I'll have to tweak a couple things, but it turns out my measurements were almost perfect (and, once I've reworked my sculpt, will be ABSOLUTELY perfect). Tell me what you think:

So I had these made and this past weekend talked to Gil McKinney (Henry Winchester) and he said these are dead on to the one he had on the show. It's 3/4" in diameter and die struck metal.
So if you want one you can go to my homepage and order it from there.
I hope you guys like it :D
