Supernatural EMF detector

plus if you decide to make more than just 4 or so, the extra $$$ you could spend and you and your family could maybe go to one of the Supernatural conventions or at least buy more Supernatural goodies...lol

Ooops, I should have been more specific. The simplifying is all in the "guts". If I simplify the electrical circuit and components, I can bring down the cost of materials. I was making this one for a birthday gift so I didn't worry about the cost or the wiring, plus I was still learning.

It will still look and function exactly the same.

:)

It's not matching the one in the show's prop, but one of these meters would look kind of neat with some Arduino driving action moving the two needles...

Tiny magnetometer digital compasses are very cheap, as are a few other sensors, so one could even make it change based on the environment.

Where would one get one of these?

Thanks :)

It's an SZ-70. I just ordered one off eBay from this seller -> Sz 70 Panel Dual SWR Forwad Reflected Meter 100UA | eBay

I'm actually thinking of making a customized geocache finder with one. Imagine one needle being straight up if you are pointed at the target, and the other indicating range. When the two needles meet where the two scales cross, you are facing target and right on it.

Not canon, but an "alternate history/version" variant I was thinking of was to use Russian meters. There are a lot of fascinating Russian manufacture electronics components on eBay.

Update...

I've started work on a second prototype to get the "guts" of it down to a manageable size and price for materials.

:)

I am going to take a bit of a break from the board for period of time while I deal with my daughter's medical needs, so I won't be responding/posting to this thread for a while. I'll be working on/posting about the EMFs when I have some more time. I will check my PMs periodically.
:)

I did not take photos while building my daughter's EMF, but with the next build I will. I can then post some photos and a parts list for the parts that can be ordered. Some parts I got from surplus places and can be a hit an miss to find.

Man-o-man, your stuff is superb. Count me in if you do make some for sale. I'll keep my eye on ebay or etsy if put'em up there. :)

Thanks :) They are very labour intensive. I'll put you on the "interested" list.

When I built it for my daughter's birthday, I really didn't keep track of the costs. Working on that.

i would be intrested depending on the cost. how about selling a parts kit. to keep cost down for some of the cash poor fans.

Thanks for the suggestion. Some of the parts are really hard to find, so I think kits would be difficult.
