During the time of social distancing, great time to work on cosplay! Am I right?! Do to lack of toilette paper in my community i've decided not to go with my first choice, the mummy. Inspired by the new Superman : Red Son animated movie (inspired by the comic of the same name) and my love for else world style suits, i am under taking a Red Son style super suit. I have decided on the second outfit Superman wore in the Red Son film. It's a very simple outfit, so i will be taking some artistic liberties here and there to bring some more 3d texturing to the costume.

One of the first things I will be working on is the collar. The base will be a simple repurposed black shirt collar, since I have no clue how to sew. First thing i will be changing is the red and yellow squares on his collar to proper collar tags, inspired by the real tags worn by USSR Soldiers

I would just get some surplus USSR pins on Amazon, but this is a quarantine project so I want to try and use as many things as I already have inside the home as possible... So when you see the close up detail, tell me what you think it is :D

Upadte: Collar

So using a scrap piece of balsa wood I cut it down to shape and skimmed it with a layer of clay. I would press in a fabric texture into the clay, i then careful put a layer of beads as a boarder and pressed them into the clay. Then Lastly I pressed emblem into the clay and cast it using a silicone rubber.

I used a simple white resin to cast the collar tabs and a Shazam tiger pendent for another cosplay.

Once they came out of the mold used acrylic paints to get the gold and red color scheme I wanted. I will wait to see them on the costume to decide if i want to do any kind of weathering.

The body suit I am still fiddling with. Trying to strike the balance between 1948 custom making tech and what we expect now from superhero films. The textures the lines and so forth. The suit it self just says plain grey, but that wont work with todays modern consumer.

My first attempt was a lot more MCU style. With DCEU inspired textures. It feels like a little too much.

Looking great so far! I haven’t watched the movie yet, but I definitely want to see it. I would maybe look at the first avenger for some texture inspiration.

Captain Rodgers you are brilliant! I i've decided on a much simpler patter all the way around, ill keep working on this probably till the bitter end though lol. I've also simplified the muscle shadows and highlights. He seems more strong man then cut so I've rounded the muscles to reflect that.
