Giant bodysuit almost done! Needs a bit more weathering. This fabric absolutely does not stain or dye well, so it’s been hard to get it as dark and aged as I wanted. Dirty Down has worked pretty well for some of it but there’s definitely more needed.

VERY rough first pass on the helmet. The brass is just base coated. I still have a TON of weathering to do on the copper areas, and I honestly didn’t expect for it to take this long to weather properly (since that’s usually my favorite part). After hours, it still isn’t where I want it. It’s just such a large prop, it’s hard to do in one single pass!

Started painting some of the brass bits. I really tried to capture the look of some of the antique brass pieces I have laying around my house, which was very brown and black, but with a little bit of green here and there. I used dirty down for that. The brass base coat is actually a rattle can I picked up that I was happy with. I’ve tried automotive paints in brass colors, alclad, model paints, etc. and all had a very fake look to them. This is the closest thing to real brass that I could find.

Electronics for the helmet are basically done other than extending the wire length. The porthole lights show up on my camera as blue, but they are “cool white” and very very bright in person.

My wife has begun the process of creating all the leather pieces and patches, which has proven to be easier than expected…. Getting there slowly!

I am definitely interested in purchasing casts of anything you are willing to sell.
I’ll keep you posted. I don’t know if I can ship any of my big daddy stuff. These pieces are so massive that after molding it all, I don’t even know how I’d begin to sell it and ship it

That being said, I’m in crunch mode now for Dragoncon. And we’re getting there slowly but surely.

(Turn your volume up for that video, you’ll wanna hear it!).

Tanks, tubes, and speaker all added to the helmet. At this point the only things left to add (to the helmet) is the camera and lens, and the diving weight/ropes! I have to add the center seam going down the middle of the back and there’s a couple rivets missing too but that’s easy.

Okay so he was wearable enough to take to DragonCon yesterday, so I wore him out and I’m super happy with the results. There’s still a couple of things here and there that I’ll be fixing but overall I am very very pleased with the results so far.

Next step is actually going to be taking the drill apart and molding it so I can cast another out of foam. That’s the one thing about this is that the drill is just too dang heavy. I’m going to do some other small fixes as well with the arms and with some of the belts, too.

However, I’m happy to see how this has paid off!

So many questions:
1) How is mobility in that suit?
2) Do you have any footage of you walking around wearing it?
3) Can you sit down when wearing it?
4) Do you have footage of you suiting up?
5) What happens if you need to use the restroom or scratch yourself when wearing all that?
6) How well do the lights compete in broad daylight?
7) How many handlers do you have when walking around the convention?

1) mobility is totally fine. I can move my elbows up to 90 degrees or my arm straight out. They won’t go above my shoulders. Walking is fine, though I couldn’t see at all in the video at all so I took baby steps. The drill right now weighs way too much so I’m going to be molding and casting one out of epoxy so that it’s lighter.
2) kinda, there’s a video above of me taking a couple of steps to get closer but that doesn’t really count because I couldn’t see well and was worried I was going to run into someone.
3) I can, but I wouldn’t because the weight could run into the belt or the ropes may fold off and break something off.
4) I do not unfortunately.
5) I try to use the restroom before I get in, but getting itchy I just have to deal with it lol.
6) if you’ve ever seen a lightsaber with neopixels in daylight, that’s the same thing.
7) At LEAST 2.
