Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Oh I'll finnish it if its the first last thing I do?

Your not the only one that wants to see this all painted up. Please please feel free to have a crack at any parts that haven't been ID'd yet, you must have a keen eye to do that speeder.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

YA Nick is right this thing comes very raw you should give yourself
more credit! It's a ton of scratch-building even with the parts as
you can see for yourself!:lol You really need to be able to look ahead,
and problem solve to put these parts together and make it work.
People might say "Well why is it so expensive for you to make me one of these you already have all the parts?" Well just making all the patterns is a pain, then forming them, then getting it together as your doing here. You can see now how much work this is alone, minus making the patterns and having to form all the parts.
My hope here Guy is that from having to work with my short comings,
it will inspire you to move on further and begin to create your own
patterns. It's really a natural evolution in model building, your like right there Guy it wold be ahshame not to see you develope even more.
I know your a more of a truest then me parts and accuracy wise,
and I know the parts help determine some of the building. But in the end your still going to have to make the shape sooner or later!
Rich said to me one day "If you want to be really good keep building
subjects with compound curves, becuse not many want to do it and not
many can." Where always looking for that perfect model, even when we might have it, or be pretty close we don't see it.......so like Nick said "Don't do yourself down!":thumbsup

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks mate, I will be moving forward as time goes on thats for sure. I will be having a go at my first Vac form part pretty soon. The piece from the top of the cockpit bulkhead.

Fingers crossed!

I'm not so much playing myself down, I just don't want to understate the amazing work you have put into my build prior to its arrival. Seeing Lee & Julien's builds in the flesh has really inspired me to do better with my work. I dont want to look at my build when its done and think " I wish I'd done that better" although I know I will be thinking that anyway.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Tried my hand at scratch building the 4 parts that have still yet to ID'd. I thought about using similar parts but nothing I had came close, so I had to pop the glasses on & get to work.

They're a bit wonky but look pretty good considering they're size & the fact I've never done anything this small before.

My camera just died so I've had to resort to my phone. More progress on the cockpit this afternoon

Hey Julien, guess where the Tamiya Bismark just turned up a part for?

Strike one more ID for the A wing

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

A bit more done, the canopy is a little too small after trimming but looks ok. I'm not sure if its my rear bulkhead thats too high though?

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Your cockpit looks fantastic Guy....but id maybe trim another canopy and lift up the back maybe? Must say, its all looking very sharp in there!

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

I only have the one canopy, but I think it will be hard to get the right hight even with a new one. I'll have a chat with Mike.

I re did the lower cockpit panel section today. I'm getting used to V2's now. Its so hard to get the dimensions right when they're are no known parts to use. I've been looking through loads of ships to see if anything looks familiar. Sadly I've not turned anything up so far.

Its much better than the V1, I'll need to angle it upwards & move it in a bit but thats easy enough without making a V3,.....phew!

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Remember if I am correct I think there is a trim band
that sits around the canopy at it's rear? This is where it connects
to the bulkhead......I think? If you raise it up more which might
be the correct thing to do, the trim ring might not have enough room?
You know best your looking at it, I think your way over the top of
the big hill on this model now Guy!!:lol:thumbsup What do you have left
sorting wise the guns? The instrumentation parts look fantastic great job!
I have one piece of clear left I think If you need another canopy let me know.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks Mike.

I think I've got the majority of the cockpit finished at last. I want to move onto the back wall next but I'm really hoping for some more ID's. I've had to really improvise the cockpit walls. They look fine but the details are around 20% too large from the ILM version, it still looks ok though?

The feel is there but accuracy not!

I think I got a much better angle on the lower center section even if it is a tad over sized.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Stunningly beautiful Guy!:love:thumbsup
What size drill bit did you end up with
for the rivet depressions?

Sometimes when you take pics of one area
you capture small details away from it.The fourth picture
goodness gracious the panel lines are just perfect!:thumbsup

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

More stuff boxed off, had the house to myself all night so I've been spreading out over the kitchen & making a lot of mess. YES!

Got my mount sorted & a lot of niggling things. The battery compartment is below the cockpit & will sit on top of the Ramp on the lower hull.
