Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Mate you wont want to copy what happened today thats for sure

I had my first major disaster today. I glued the armature in place then added screws throught the top of the hull underneath the canopy bulkhead, all went really well, both mounts lined up & then I noticed the hole back end of the build was pointing upwards.

It was only slightly out but enough to stop the engines & Fins lining up, infact nothing lined up anymore. I could of cried. There was no way it was coming free as it was in good n tight. It couldn't stay that way so I had to break the joins. I managed to get a ruler under the rear bulkhead & using a hammer gently tap it into the ship splitting the wood from the hull...... it was messy but it did the trick. I tried my best to clean up the splinters & glue then re glued it in the correct position.

Thankfully it worked, only a small bit of visible mess on the rear BH & I knocked the right fin off, however It was coming loose anyway due to a poor fit in the first place.

I must pay more attention in class ???

Well ok I will leave that out then!!!:lol:thumbsup
Sounds like you got it pretty much back up and running!

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thankfully mate I did, it means I have a bit more work than I wanted but it will be ok in the end.

To make up for my disaster I started placing the donor parts o the hull. Again, I've no doubt rushed into this but It makes me feel good seeing the results.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks Julien, sadly a few glue joins got disturbed around the cockpit so I will need to go back & clean up & do some filling but nothing that I cant handle. Just more work than I wanted but for a first proper scratch its coming along really well. With Mikes help of coarse (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

These are worst area's that I can find

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Parts and primer that looks great!
I am glad these hulls and parts found a good home:thumbsup!
I know your cockpit from the concept speeder, and your painting
skills, so I am real stoked for those shots when you get there!:thumbsup

Keep up the great work!

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Yeah I saw the seam lines Guy but that's not a big deal, easy to fix it could have been worse !
Cant wait to see your paintjob, it will be a killer !

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Looks a good rescue job to me mate!. Killer build Guy, she's looking stunning!. Panel lines look awesome under primer along with all the other details.
Stu:love

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks guys, I'm back to ID hell, still really want to find a few parts but ref is very thin on the ground.

I think I found this today. Its a great match & it only takes a minor tweek when trimmed but it matches perfectly & in the absence of any other info it will be featuring on my model.

If anyone has any idea's to what goes in the rear cockpit bulkhead & on the side at the back of the cockpit bulk head that would be ace?

I have the vosper part but nothing else,Lee mentioned Karl & I think 25pdr parts may be used. There is a circle with straight vents at the top of the rear bulkhead, any ideas?

Not sure of the size, but that part could be from the vosper.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

You are 100% spot on, a massive hug coming your way mate, assuming you didn't want sex :lol

I picked up a fully built & painted vosper for £9 recently but its proving to be a bugger to get them off. 1 down 7 to go.

The best thing is decided not to glue the thw wrong part on today just incase.

Perfect :lol

Edit...got it, done & its on the hull.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Another disaster today, but I'm thinking it could be an advantage!

The Tongue (in blue) on the upper center section snapped completely off today whilst I was sanding it. As I wanted to add the angled walls either side of it, this problem has forced the issue of making a separate center section with the angled walls. I trimmied the hull back to the red lines & made a quick mock up of 1 side wall to see how it would work. It now means I can add this section after the lower center piece is in place with very little fuss & it will be a lot closer to the studio model.

To be continued..........................

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Productive day today, been working on the underside center plate, nearly finished off the scribing on the lower hull, and began the recessed ramp section work. So far so good, no real cock ups but still needs a lot of tweaking here & there.

You can also see the WIP on the tongue section.

Thanks mate, I have never completed anything & my only other scratch is my concept speeder which has been retired for time being.

All the hard work on this build was done in advance by our resident A wing Guru. I just had to trim it all shape & fit & jiggy it a bit with some mods here & there.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Michael clearly did a great job blazing a trail on this one for sure, but don't do yourself down. You are down in the trenches with this one and giving as good as you get! :)

Just make sure you finish this project cos' I want to see it all painted up!

(I don't think its worth me kitting this one anymore, you and Michael have kinda nailed already!)
