Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks Mate, its def a fun build.

Trying to think ahead with this now so I added the rings around the engine ends so I could notch the fins before gluing them in place. I new if I glued them then notched them that they would come free & it would start getting messy.

I also added the Side gun wall supports, funnily enough in a very similar way to Michael :cool:lol

The rings are done with 3 pieces of evergreen strip
.40 x .250
.40 x .125
.20 x .60

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

And I really appreciate your documentation of the process. It might prompt some of us to try making one some day.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

:lol:lol Your smarter than me Guy I glued then notched.............
and the rings came undone at the ends!!!:angry:thumbsdown

So I will follow your lead when I do mine again!!!

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Looks fantastic thanks for the ingredients on the rings going to steal that from you on mine!!:lol:thumbsup

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

I see you have the cut out notched in your inner bulkhead for the bottom hull's center section.Does this mean you have the lower hulls center section with
the ramp built?

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

No mate, just in anticipation so far, you can see from the pics my top & bottom center's are way out DOH!

for the engine rings I would use .20 x .40 for the inner smallest ring my .20 x .60 is a little to wide. Same with the other 2 maybe try .30 x .250 & .30 x .125, mine are a little to high also.

although it saves some hassle notching before its glued its a pain in the ass as nothing is fixed yet so lining stuff up is a real nightmare. I'm hoping I got it right. I had to lift the engines by hand a little as they droop down, good job I spotted it before the notches on the the top fins as done. Fingers crossed?

YA there is a lot of stuff going on at the back end of this model,
it's kind of a pain to keep everything right! Never saw the filming
mini in person, so I can't say how good it looks back there!:lol

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

I just had to start some detailing, aside from some very dodgy panel lines I think this has turned out pretty nice so far? I refined my tech on each line as I went down the thruster. I also noticed a distinct v in the lines either side of the stips. these are slightly different to the ones between & that are on the fins and hull, I used a small triangle file on them once the line was in place. 2 of them are shockingly bad but I think I'll just motor on n maybe fill them later?? I may have used a slightly over sized drill bit for the rivet holes?

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Been dipping into this thread for a while now. Really great job Guy. Looking very smart indeed! :)

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

I just checked &the holes are nearly twice the size they should be....bbbbbbollox!

Fill um with the Apoxie Sculpt that will give you
the best shot at getting them re-drilled!:thumbsup

After looking closer your depressions are in the strip, so you can remove the
strip or still fill them?

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Hey Michael & Guy,

It may be a trick of the camera, but it looks like your top and bottom hull areas at the back between the steering fins are quite flat. However the studio model is rounded as a continuation of the curve of the hull?

If I am I mis-reading the pics or jumping the gun on what you are going to do later then I apologies in advance and will crawl away somewhere! :)

Cheers
N

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks guys, Nick this is the one thing I wanted to change on my build. The problem is that the the top fins are already pinned & if I put the curve in it they will never line up with the bottom fins & also the armature would have to be a lot more complicated. I did discuss this with Lee & he give me a great tip but I think I'm going to bite the bullet on the rear curve for the sake of major re working. I may still try?
