BTW I got 10 yards of matt today and a bunch of 2 oz. cloth. Since I was unable to find any epoxy gel coat locally I will make epoxy butter for the corners and round them out. Lay in a coat of straight resin and then stipple in the 2 oz. cloth. This will capture all my detail and give me a smooth surface much as I did for my RC jet hulls and planes. But then I'll back it up with 1 1/2 oz matt for a nice thickness.

I went to pick up the resin epoxy but the quart of kicker was still not there. Hoping for tomorrow. Except for the kicker I ready to start laying up and making hulls.

Wow Steve that was some ordeal you lived through just feeling something as small as I did today way strange to feel something you never felt before I couldn't imagine a 8.0 thank goodness you and your family were not harmed. Now back to our regularly scheduled program the big E build Lol, I can't wait to see the layup techniques.

That Northridge quake was the real deal. I haven't been scared of a little earthquake since that one hit. Everything else seems like a joke in comparison. The little ones are fun, but the thing is, you never know when it starts if this is the one that's gonna sink us into the ocean. :confused

But, back on topic, I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings in this build!

Sorry fellas, just one last quake related posting...
Here in the SF Bay we felt a small shaker last night at 11:35 PM whilst abed.
3.9 and centered about 10 miles north of us in San Leandro.
I heard on the news last night that earthquakes on the East Coast are felt worse than those of the same magnitude on the West Coast. Seems the rocks underground are mostly intact and transfer the vibration over greater distances while out West the rocks have been fractured from so many quakes over the centuries they tend to dissipate the vibration.
I found that most illuminating.

yes apparently the quake here was much more shallow than the ones out west

Yes. I heard it was 0.9 kilometers deep.
The 3.9 from last night was 5 kilometers deep by comparison. Barely felt a ripple.
As noted above, the scary thing is, you wonder if it's the start of something bigger when it first hits.

Still waiting on resin and worried about the high temps we are about to face here. I'm not sure it's a good idea to do epoxy layups in 106 degree temps.

I'll be wearing a double respirator too. If everyone of the 70,023 readers of this thread sent me a dollar I'd go rent a nice air conditioned shop! LOL!

I might just have to get started real early. It would be slow progress but progress just the same.

Steve

Hey Steve, I said he's either laying up already and has been to busy to post or he's still waiting on materials, and how will the high temps afffect it Steve will it cause it to set up to quickly?

Well that's one thing Ray but I'll probably pass out in 106 with a mask on. If I did have to wear the damn mask but I had better. Epoxy is less toxic than polyester, smells less and blows it away. However it still is very toxic. It has made me dizzy and sick in the past.

Steve

Better to play it safe Steve. You could start casting the other resin parts that will not be epoxy....Sorry just anxious to see more.

Stupid me Lol and I used to work in the shipyard wearing a respirator busting rust on the Los Angeles class subs and carriers and yes it can get a little hot wearing them. Will you be using West systems epoxy Steve?

Oh man your RC subs are beautiful, I remember getting laid off because we didn't get the Saewolf Contract it went to Electric Boat in Conn.

It's only about 20 of us who keep coming back for more :lol

Can't you run some fans? Wouldn't that cool things down, and reduce the fumes?

It's a conspiracy I tell you.....LOL I would take the time to recharge your batteries and when the supplies arrive you will be good to got. Can't wait to see it.
