Stargate SG1 Serpent Guard build

Hey guys and girls :)

So I'm in the process of building a serpent guard outfit for Oz Comicon in September as Richard Dean Anderson and Amanda Tapping are going to be guests. I thought that this was a good opportunity to tick this costume off my list of things to make.

As usual I'm too impatient for pepakura argh, so I'm just using references and free handing my templates as I go.

So far I've done the neck/shoulder piece and started on the chest piece. Using my favourite weapon of choice (impact foam) I've shaped, dremelled, sealed and painted and so far I'm happy with the outcome.

Currently working on drawing up and cutting out the arm guards and shin guards.

Anyway some photos below of my progress!

:love amazing! I love SG1. Cant wait to see the serpent head - presuming your building one!???!?!?!? please tell me you are!
Did you do the detailing by scoring the foam? ive never worked with EVA but I'd like to

Nicely done!

this is duplicating IcedJemz but I'm also curious how the recessed detail was achieved.

Egads! This is you being "impatient?" I couldn't do detail that clean if I limited myself to drawing one line every other week.

Seriously, looks great.

Looking amazing, great work.

Ahh thanks so much!

Agreed, this looks really good so far. Have put this costume on my to-do list - fairly daunting though - will watch this one closely.

The picture angle of that neck section makes it look like a grinder....

Ohh more Jaffa the better! :) I hope my build can help with yours at least.

Dat armour detail! Love it!!

Ahh thanks! :D

Thank you! Yes I am building the head, however it isn't for this convention, it will probably be next year sometime as I want to motorise the head (I'm an auto electrician by trade so I want to take my time into rigging something special up for it)

The foam I used a dremel to freehand the linework in, they are pretty cheap tools and come from Bunnings with lots of head attachments. EVA is fantastic, it's my favourite material to work with!

Thank you :) The indents were made from a dremel tool (rotary tool) ;)

Doing great!

Wow, looks really amazing!

Thanks so much guys!

Yep! Haha wow, well thanks very much :D

Okay so my latest update, I finally picked out the fabrics for this, it was a little tricky deciding but overall I'm happy with my purchases. I've cut out the fabric and need to tack it up and test fit then do a final sew up.

Completed most of the armor as shown, coming along nicely and enjoying the build which always is a bonus.

Bit disappointed that Amanda Tapping has cancelled but Richard Dean Anderson is still coming so that's good :)

This looks really good! ( I made an account on here just to say so!)

I just bought a pepakura set for the serpent guard helmet.... After cutting out 49 pages of pieces I can understand why you decided against the pep route...

Long journey ahead! (although I'm aiming for November comicon :)

Overall pretty happy with it for a quick build and did have any major dramas with the armor, hurray! There are still more photo's to come but haven't got them back yet :)

Wowzers meeting the man himself! Looks like it really came out well in the end. Love the Cape!
