Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

I've been giving Star Wars a chance since 1999. How many chances do I have to give it in 20 years before I say enough is enough? I've had it with their inferior and subpar Star Wars movies and I just skip the new additions. I can't fathom why people settle for what I consider mediocrity but hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

For those of you who are going to see it. Go. Have fun. I mean that sincerely! :)

I don't understand why this is so hard for some of you to understand.
When I get lousy service and awful food at a restaurant, I don't go there again.
That's how capitalism works. I have a CHOICE.
I don't HAVE to buy it just because it says "Star Wars" on it.

True, however you also then don't have to spend two years moaning about the bloke running the restaurant....

I never said I hated Rebels or Clone Wars. I just never watched them. Solo honestly didn't interest me so I didn't bother watching.

I saw TFA and liked it when I saw it initially but it would all hinge on 8. I saw Rogue One and thought it was ok. Nothing really special and again it didn't add anything new or meaningful to the series that felt necessary to know. I saw TLJ and nearly walked out.

It's (sadly) taken me this long to realize I only like Star Wars, Empire and Jedi.

Believe what you want.

I'm still attached to it emotionally. Clearly. I'm not delusional. Or maybe I am. Though no more delusional that anyone else here. I just wish that if they were going to continue making these that they would have handled it with more care.

Complaining, or participating in a discussion?

I thought this was a discussion thread.

I mean sure, they can do anything with the story. It doesn't mean it's a good choice. Having Steve show up as a ghost would make more sense, but I doubt that's what will happen. This is one of the issues I take with it from a writing standpoint though if they go that route. If a ghost can interact with the physical world (as established in TLJ) then it begs the question as to why they have not intervened in the past to help shape events?

To me that opens up all kinds of narrative problems.

I suspect that 9 won't change many people's opinions on the matter. If you are willing to settle for mediocre Star Wars, more power to you. I just expect more.

See this is the thing that really bugs me about these Star Wars threads. In the end the mask slips slightly and people have to have a dig at someone else for liking something they don't.

It is mediocre to you. Yeah no doubt others jump in and say things like "well they're right", and such wonderfully childish things like "Ruin Johnson (seriously are grown men really continuing to call a man that?) gave us/the fanbase the finger".....

I might have missed it in the pages of back-and-forth, but...

This cracks me up. I'm hearing people say the saga ended in 83, but the marketing for ROTJ, doesn't suggest that at all. "The Saga Continues"

Seriously though turn the "kid" switch back on go watch the dang movie, and if you don't like then complain about it.

I honestly don't care if people like it. I don't understand why people like it, but how often have I said to each their own? How often have I qualified my statements by saying were all here because we love the same thing, only in different ways. Or that we can pick and choose like a buffet? I feel I've given space for those to express their love for the series, and merely offered my take on things. Take it for what you will. My responses have been fairly measured too, often laughing at my own expense.

I fail to see how me expressing an opinion that differs from you ruins your fun. Again I'm not in the theater throwing popcorn at anyone's head as we watch. If my opinions are enough to ruin your experience of watching a movie that hasn't even been released yet, then perhaps the doubts about its story are not coming from me but from refusing admit to yourself that maybe the points I've raised are things you yourselves have considered but don't want to admit bother you too.

I've had people tell me I'm not a real fan. I've also had people tell me to leave and also to politely shut the **** up too. It's also equally true that those things are digs at me for NOT liking it. Fine. We don't agree. You're entitled to your opinions and I'm entitled to mine. My opinion isn't meant to be a personal attack on anyone. Just challenging the ideas presented in the story, or in this case what we can glean from the trailer because that's what this discussion is all about. Talking about story.

Perhaps because I know the plot and am commenting on it seems like I'm hating on it without cause, but I'm trying to not give anything away for those who haven't followed the leaks. Everything is lining up with them to a T and I don't care for the choices they've made. In the end my take has as much merit as anyone else's.

If there isn't equal space for both sides of the topic then what are any of us doing here?

Go see the movie. Enjoy yourselves. Escape for a few hours. Have a great time. In the end we all care about this stuff. See it and make up your own mind.

I haven't seen the Mandalorian either. Never saw Clone Wars. Never watched Rebels.

You're missing out on some great SW, man. I know we mostly disagree about TLJ, but I don't just lap up any and all SW content.

And I don’t really care how good people think Rebels or Clone Wars are, they didn’t really look good to me. And I did end up seeing some of both, and I was right. Not for me.

Rebels has a very kiddie start, but gets MUCH better by the end of even that first season.

The point is, after the giant middle finger to fans that was The Last Jedi, Disney/LFL isn't getting any more of MY money.

I'm a fan. No giant middle fingers to me. The "real fan"/"SW IQ" division goes both ways. We can like or not like something, and still be a fan of it as a broader concept. I don't care for the prequels, but I'm still a SW fan. Those who do...blech.

I wish more people were willing to be open to the idea of take it or leave it rather than being so concerned with unquestioning brand loyalty. That's what bothers me. The beauty of this property is that there is content for everyone.

I know I’ll see it at least twice cuz these movies are weird to watch when there’s this much anticipation...

instead of enjoying the flick, I just watch going “okay so far working... that was a a weird choice.. that’s lame... hey cool.... oh man that line bombed.”

Usually the second i can fairly assess....

then if you’re like an “End Game”, “into the spiderverse” “infinity was” “jojo rabbit” good, I’ll be revisiting in the theatre every time I’m bored.

saw each an embarassing amount of time.

Moving next to the cities biggest theatre and a 20 minute walk to the second run/indie theatre... has been awesome.

Not sure why people continually discuss TLJ in this thread. Hopefully when the post-release thread for this movie comes out those that don't see it will go back that thread and complain about it for the next 10 years...

For the same reason that some people in this thread won't stop trying to convince the many people that enjoy the ST that it is bad lol.

But a little bit of brand loyalty never hurt anyone. I mean why do I watch the Prequels? It's not like I really enjoy them. It's because they are Star Wars, and there's some cool stuff in them.

That's how I do my politics. I'm conservatively liberal, and liberally conservative. I'm an enigma. Shove your 2-party system! Wait, wrong forum.

Brand loyalty got me to the theater on opening night of every prequel film, and will probably always get me out there, brimming with excitement and hoping to see another great installment of my favorite franchise. The prequels mostly sucking (in my opinion) is why I won't watch them anymore. Loyalty be damned. I'm not gonna give 2+ hours of my time to something I don't enjoy. Sure, there are cool things in each of them. That's why I keep them in my collection, to reference the scenes I want to, when I want to.

So maybe this is sacrilegious, but I seriously think I like the new Y-wing more than the old one.

It seems to draw some inspiration from Joe Johnston's and Colin Catwell's Y-wings

Rebels has a very kiddie start, but gets MUCH better by the end of even that first season.
I watched the whole first season, and I was willing to give it a chance, but a line in one of the last few episodes of the first season made me lose all interest. Freddie Prinze Jr.’s character said something along the lines of “We haven’t killed anyone yet”, meaning they had just been stunning people the whole season. For a franchise called Star Wars, pretending like violence and conflict have no consequences take me outfit the narrative entirely. Plus the animation, designs, and acting were all bad to me to begin with. Too kiddie. But I did like Solo, TLJ (admitting that it has flaws), and the Mandalorian (minus chapter 4).
