Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

Is she really going to be integral to the story though because if not I don't think it's a big deal? Typically they use iconic imagery for promotional materials so I can't fathom how seeing Rose on posters and banners is going to drum up much excitement. If they already had her on there and are now removing her then that's a slap in the face to Kelly Marie Tran but if they honestly thought Rose Tico was going to get fans all worked up with into a positive frenzy they are sadly mistaken.

The problem is if any of this is true then you know some journalist with a political agenda is going to latch on to this story and claim how they are white washing Hollywood.

It's business. If you are promoting The Empire Strikes Back, who do you put on the poster? Darth Vader. That's who. You don't need Lobot on there.

What's slightly suspicious is that she's in some promotional art work. But when they put that art on some merch, suddenly she's gone. I'm sure there's an explanation. But it gives the appearance they are kowtowing to some angry fans.

Which they may very well be, but the fans are the ones they are trying to please. It's business. Whatever is going to net them profit is going to be the default choice. If that means Rose is omitted from the promotional material then so be it.

I really fell bad for that actress... not her fault at all
Same here. Before the negative reactions, I don't think I've ever seen someone so overcome with joy to be in a Star Wars film. That's all changed now. She doesn't have the same sparkle in her eyes these days when she talks about Star Wars.

I also felt bad for the actress. The problem was that they tried to force in some new character who was utterly useless. If she had just some bit supporting roll, and was gone, no one would have cared.

Of course what didn't help one bit was the sheer number (well it seemed like a lot anyway) of people who dumped on her personally. Such incredible ********* to turn on an actress for just doing her job.

I kind of feel like they're trying to make her a larger character purely out of spite now. Some of the extended universe stuff they're doing makes her seem like a king pin that keep everyone together with her optimistic drive. Ugh. LOL.

I personally hated her character. But I despise those who dump on the actress for doing her job.

On a similar note about putting in characters, does it seem to me that they're throwing in so many new characters, and giving it almost an end gamish vibe? Just kind of how I'm feeling from the promo art, and I'm not ecstatic about that.

I'm cynical enough to think it's an intentional marketing false flag, like leaving Rey off the toys in FA. "The fact that she was left off the toys is proof of why we need characters like her in the movie!" Nevermind that they were the ones who left her out.

Leaving Rey off the toys for TFA was an entirely different situation, that was about keeping the surprise that she was actually the main protagonist and ends up with the lightsaber by the end. Before the movie released, Finn with the saber was on everything.

I suspect marketing is over-correcting after shelves wound up full of Rose TLJ action figures. By the time Target (for example) was clearencing out old stock, the toys were 1.) Her and 2.) Her. Entire shelves' worth.

Mayhaps somebody panicked and swerved too hard the other way.

This is the odd stuff that's happening.

First the item is first revealed with Rose on it.

But then when the merch is finally released for purchasing she's mysteriously gone.

Personally I don't understand the hate for Rose Tico. I actually really liked her.
I never really got why people hated the character so much, most of the critiques I read about her on the RPF were pretty superficial. Granted I don't remember much about her from TLJ except for when she caught Finn trying to abandon ship. I remember her more for all the flack KMT got online.

She's socially awkward. Perhaps even ankle deep on the Spectrum, like so many people are. Problem is, Hollywood historically kinda sucks for a long time at portraying _____-divergent in its characters until eventually they start to get it. Abed's Asperger's in Community was portrayed well, in part because the writers understood it, in part because they had time to explore it rather than having to beat an audience over the head with it in a two-hour movie.

Add that into the other issues TLJ had, and it's easy to magnify that flaw, just as it is to over-focus on any of the others. I don't have a problem with Rose, or Kelly-Marie. I have a feeling the character would be better served on a Disney+ series about the adventures of the Resistance. As it was, it was one thing we needed to think too hard about while a whole bunch of other things we had to think too much about were going on. And the only way to make it more obvious would have been to make her an absolute caricature "Aspie" like Sheldon (despite BBT's creator saying he didn't conceive of Sheldon with Asperger's in mind -- which sorta goes to prove my earlier point).

ETA: I also noticed on Funko's web store, all the new characters and new versions of characters in TROS have "The Rise of Skywalker" in the item name, except the new Rose Pop! figure -- she's just part of their regular Star Wars line, per the item name.

I think Kelly Marie Tran is adorable. She seems like a sweet and bubbly person and I don't at all feel she should have caught all that flak online. Just like Jake Lloyd or Ahmed Best or Hayden Christensen she is an actor being paid to do a job.

As for her character, I disliked her but that had to do with the writing and nothing to do with the actress. Like Jar Jar, her character was but a minor problem in a film plagued with major issues so I never focused so much on her.

Though I do think the fans have only really embraced her because they feel bad for the way Kelly was treated and not so much because people actually love Rose Tico. There may very well be fans out there but I'd guess they are few and far between.

Yeah, I am dying to meet her at a con and express how I feel about her

I actually got goosebumps at the last celebration when the audience stood up for her
