Yes, that's what I'm saying. The Emperor couldn't control Luke like he could control his father, so he tried to kill him. There was no underlying "All Jedi must die because they're the ancient enemy" that was brought in with the prequels. It was all a matter of control for the Emperor. What couldn't be controlled would be destroyed. It's the same reason Alderaan was obliterated.

But if it explained too much, you'd be whining about it being overly expository like the prequels.

So there you go, you're saying it was perfectly explained what Palpatine's motives towards Luke were? So what's the reason we shouldn't have some of that with Snoke?

also:
Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi: A young Jedi named Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil, helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi knights. He betrayed and murdered your father. Now the Jedi are all but extinct. Vader was seduced by the dark side of the Force.

Yeah there was a all Jedi are the enemy, directly referenced to Vader and the Emperor, right in the very first film.

I forgot to mention Yoda in my post. That has to be my second favorite scene....Yoda's attitude was spot on and the recreation of the ESB puppet made e smile from ear to ear. I loved how Rian stayed true to the wise cracking master that left us in the OT. Yoda still had is Jedi master ways but like Luke was worn down when he retreated to Degoobaa(I have no clue how to spell that name) thus born the sillier Yoda we are first introduced to in ESB. Im glad that was kept instead of making him act as the master he is because thats what the prequels portrayed him as. I believe he knew Rey took the books and that was why he was quick to burn the tree down.

This movie upset the Star Wars apple cart, and after the almost-too-rote-for-its-own-good film that we got in TFA I believe that a new Star Wars movie needed to challenge our preconceptions as fans.
I really dig that Luke didn't go off to successfully fight a never ending battle against evil in the galaxy and that things weren't all roses and sunshine for him. It wouldn't have made any narrative sense given what we've seen in the prequels and the OT.
I really like the idea that Rey is a nobody, it goes back to the idea that the Force is in everyone and you don't necessarily have to be part of the Royal Skywalker Lineage to be a badass.
I wanted to know more about Snoke, but ultimately this isn't his story. He was just a stepping stone for Kylo Ren to become the true villain of this trilogy.
I like that we've got characters with heart, like Rose and Finn, who aren't heroic archetypes but try to do the right thing. This democratizes Star Wars and widens up the view of the universe instead of narrowing it down to just the Campbellian hero's tale. We've already had that movie.
I really, REALLY like that this film took turns I didn't see coming and the characters reacted believably to those turns.

Luke's nigh-demonic grin with the green milk is damned hilarious. He's trying to be gross and off-putting because he wants to be left alone. I get it.

And I want a Porg yell ringtone.

That *is* kind of a good point that would have been cool to have clarification on. I guess I don't *need* to see how Snoke seduced Kylo, but it may have made for a little clarity...

How did vader fall to the dark side? We didn't get that answer for 16+ years after ROTJ and it took 6 years at that point for the whole answer.

That anakin was a grade A moron for one :)

If he kills me i can help you save your wife!

Ok, i'll chop off his arms and you can kill him. Done.

Now you want me to go kill a bunch of little kids? Cool. Back in a flash.

Just horribly horribly done.

Exactly. Which is why I cringe every time I see someone complaining about every question they have not being answered. I still don't get that entitled behavior.

NO NO NO!!

Palpatine.. and now that time Sidious.. had been drilling Anakin.. Anankin had already lost his mother..and....

Oh nevermind.. this is TLJ thread..

But I though that whole scene was awesome..

How do people keep missing the point that even though Luke was tempted to kill Ben\Kylo, he didn't?!?! He changed his mind, but before he had a chance to try and guide Ben\Kylo away from that path, Ben\Kylo overreacted (out of fear, which we know what that leads to) and we got what happened after.
Because the Luke Skywalker from the OT would never in a million years have even for a millisecond had the thought of KILLING HIS NEPHEW without trying to guide him towards a different path or EVEN TALKING TO HIM ABOUT IT. That's why.

The same Luke that would shoot innocent creatures on his home world for target practice?.. Poor little womp-rats.. and I think I saw him shoot a storm trooper that wasnt even aiming at him........he punched an Ewok when no one was looking...

what an evil boy he was

So you've built up this image of the saintly Luke Skywalker, which never existed, in your own mind and now that you've been shown that he isn't that, you're mad. Sound familiar?

Big difference between killing non-sentient creatures for sport and killing a human being who has yet to do something wrong.

Except he did exist, it's called Return of the Jedi. It's also called canon novels. Also called canon comics. Also called canon video games. Maybe they didn't portray him as a saint, but they didn't portray him as a heartless coward, even if it was a fleeting moment.
