There is a difference between growing a story or concept in isolation and then simply asking and expecting everybody to accept it unquestioningly at face value because thats what you'd like them to do. Without any critical input back how do you know the strengths and weaknesses of your ideas or how to correct them?
That ,to be honest, sounds more than a bit off ( and I'm being polite here).
OK Rian lets play this game. Using your rules and logic of course.
There were several moments in TLJ when significant changes are made to how the universe in Star Wars operates. And the repercussions of that are quite tricky when you actually THINK about them.
Lets get imaginative using what Rian has brought into TLJ to grow it a little (in other words let me sprinkle a little creative dung on his ideas).
The apparently new ability to transport and materialize matter and objects via the Force was one of them. I like it. It has, how should I say this , dark possibilities.
I find myself asking wouldn't it be easier in the future just to pinch a blood vessel closed and give somebody a "Force" heartattack than to bother choking them around the throat, thats alot of time and effort . Next time go smaller. And deadlier. A tiny pinch of the fingers and wham they are gone (without any of that grandstanding of course). Nobody notices , natural causes and all that and its a win.
ORRRRRRRRR. Lets Force materialize a small blockage into somebodies major blood vessels. Don't mess about with a couple of dice!!!!
Or if thats a bit too dark why not go the old fashioned way of assassinations with a humours twist and transport a thermal detonator into somebodies trousers instead?
So ,for example ,Kylo has to drop his pants in front of the whole of the First Order just as he is giving a rousing speech!!! Oh the laughs that will get. Benny Hill, who was obviously using his Force ghost to influence the slapstick you injected into TLJ ,will love it. The rest of us, not so much.
I know that the use of "Force projection" killed Luke in the end , but did anyone else notice that Rey managed to get Kylo wet in that scene where she was semi sheltering under the Falcon without any seemingly conscious effort at all?
I'd highly recommend that she uses "Force poison / toxic gas " next time, its easier and sneakier than a lightsabre. Just use "Force skype" to get Kylo attention, he always seems pretty desperate to talk to you ,distract him somehow Rey (use your imagination) and zap, teleport, arrgghhhhhhhhhh, job done! . Millions of lives saved!!!
Then of course we have the Thor-yoda powerup as the "Force ghost" that " brings the lightning" down to fry the tree. Actually wouldn't it have been better to do that to that persky hyperspace tracker, or the First Order command bridge or even Kylo when he's least expecting it ? He hasn't even met you afterall and what a shocking surprise it would be, particularly if hes taking a bath (he does like to get his shirt off doesn't he?).
No. Lets fry the thousands of years old symbol of the Jedi order instead. Thats the real enemy. Not the First Order whose killing virtually everybody who matters of course. Notice did I, you didn't bother to help Luke out much when it really mattered did you? Let him die you did. Disappointed I was.
The general idea of "ghosts" in the SW universe so far as I can tell is that they can offer questionable advice but not do much else. If they were able to physically start fracking about in the real universe anytime and where they liked, you're really going to end up asking what in the hell have they been doing when the living people are really up against it and the outcome matters. Can Luke not like " Force haunt" Kylo Ren by suddenly appearing over his bed with a light sabre!!!!! Wouldn't that would really freak and creep him out!!!!!
Damn they have already done that haven't they???!!!
And with these endless possiblities really openning up to them now (as Rian wants us to grow) what can they really do in the future? Once these rules are broken its pretty hard not to keep doing it and pushing the envelope.
You can argue I've now grown the ideas in the Star Wars universe as Rian says we should. But did we really want to? Do we want "Force ghosts" to be able to return at will like "Ghostbusters" or have Jedi able to project false images of themselves like " Loki" in a Star Wars universe? I'd say not. This isn't Marvel.
If it was perhaps I'd have liked it better.
And then we have the new hyperspace " issues".
See my next post.
