Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Aside from a bit of slightly sagging skin on the jaw line, I very much disagree with that assessment.

I thought he was excellent in the role of curmudgeony mentor.

As a hero? Different story. He cannot convincingly be an action/adventure hero anymore.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

What's PROBABLE (ie, we're 99% sure this stuff is correct and true, but it has not been officially announced yet):
- The MIllenium Falcon will return.

Shouldn't this be official seeing as how they've built a full size Millennium Falcon set?

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Have they, though? Has that been actually confirmed, or is it just rumored? I think it's important to bear in mind what is actually confirmed from official sources, rather than just what's floating around or what people claim to have seen, etc.

Yeah that is a rumor I am still skeptical about. I could see them making a full size Falcon similar to what they had at the time of filming ROTJ but a full size Falcon with interior doesn't make a lot of sense due to the limitations if the interior space vs. the demands if setting up cameras and lighting. Far easier and flexible to have separate interior sets with moveable walls. Now maybe Disney might want a full size Falcon with an interior fir a theme park attraction at some point..

Wow not sure how old that pic is, but he looks very "luke" in that photo.

I don't think that's fair to say, seeing as how he hasn't done any hero roles, as you mean it, since KOTCS. I think he pulled that one off personally, through the use of stunt doubles and such and I know that's not the popular opinion, but that's how I feel about it.

Give the man a chance, he ain't dead yet.

Not only that--it is impossible. The interior of the Falcon WILL NOT fit inside the outer structure. the Falcon is essentially a TARDIS.
STAR WARS: The Millennium Falcon
I haven't read the entire site yet as I just don't have the time right now, so maybe this was addressed there, but just because they didn't make the full-size falcon before to fit with the interior shooting set doesn't mean it can't possibly be done.

And as far as shooting difficulty with a full-size exterior and interior, they could always make it in pieces to come apart when they need the room to do so.

how recent is that?
2005...so not very.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I don't think Han Solo will be a featured "hero" of Ep.7. I just don't think that's the correct creative instinct and don't see this production team trying to make that work in the film .

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I don't think the heroes of the OT will be the heroes of this trilogy. I think they're just going to be showing up as cameos or supporting roles. Will they maybe be in a few action sequences? Maybe, but I don't think they're going to be in one action sequence after another.

I'm not saying he can't have ANY part in the film. I have a harder time envisioning Han Solo's role in the galaxy post-ROTJ (and particularly 30 years post-ROTJ) than I do Luke or Leia's, though. EU notwithstanding.

But from seeing him in Ender's Game, which I think is his most recent film, he just...doesn't look the part of a hero anymore. I mean, yeah, stunt doubles can account for a lot, and for a 72 year old guy, Ford is in TERRIFIC shape. But he's still 72. He could play a grizzled, older, tough SOB, but he's not action/adventure hero material anymore. Mentor-to-hero, "ojisan" style character, something like that, sure. But not the hero anymore.[/QUOTE]

On the subject of the Falcon interior and it being impossible, I think that's more to do with what we've seen of it and the physical dimensions depicted vs. the way they'd have to be laid out within the ship. It's absolutely possible to build all the sets and shoot them independently, but the problem is more one of "the physical dimensions of the exterior don't make sense, given the interior shots."

I don't think Han Solo will be a featured "hero" of Ep.7. I just don't think that's the correct creative instinct and don't see this production team trying to make that work in the film .

I don't think any of them will be playing the central heroes. My point is more that I find them doing action sequences to be far less believable nowadays. Hamill could maybe do it, but neither Fisher nor Ford really strikes me as making sense running around shooting at stuff.

Now, if Han was FLYING, that'd be a different story entirely...

But I also really REALLY do not want them killing off the OT heroes in the new film. To me, that seems a cheap way to go for an emotional gut-punch, and a pretty unsatisfying one at that. It'd be like, do we really need to see an Indy film where Indy gets killed just so he can hand the hat and whip over to some new character? This is why I say they should be allowed to ride off into the sunset, so to speak. Their chapter is closed, let's just move on without actually killing any of 'em on screen.
