Re: Star Wars Episode VII
I don't think that's fair to say, seeing as how he hasn't done any hero roles, as you mean it, since KOTCS. I think he pulled that one off personally, through the use of stunt doubles and such and I know that's not the popular opinion, but that's how I feel about it.
Give the man a chance, he ain't dead yet.
I'm not saying he can't have ANY part in the film. I have a harder time envisioning Han Solo's role in the galaxy post-ROTJ (and particularly 30 years post-ROTJ) than I do Luke or Leia's, though. EU notwithstanding.
But from seeing him in Ender's Game, which I think is his most recent film, he just...doesn't look the part of a hero anymore. I mean, yeah, stunt doubles can account for a lot, and for a 72 year old guy, Ford is in TERRIFIC shape. But he's still 72. He could play a grizzled, older, tough SOB, but he's not action/adventure hero material anymore. Mentor-to-hero, "ojisan" style character, something like that, sure. But not the hero anymore.[/QUOTE]
On the subject of the Falcon interior and it being impossible, I think that's more to do with what we've seen of it and the physical dimensions depicted vs. the way they'd have to be laid out within the ship. It's absolutely possible to build all the sets and shoot them independently, but the problem is more one of "the physical dimensions of the exterior don't make sense, given the interior shots."
I don't think Han Solo will be a featured "hero" of Ep.7. I just don't think that's the correct creative instinct and don't see this production team trying to make that work in the film .
I don't think the heroes of the OT will be the heroes of this trilogy. I think they're just going to be showing up as cameos or supporting roles. Will they maybe be in a few action sequences? Maybe, but I don't think they're going to be in one action sequence after another.
I don't think any of them will be playing the central heroes. My point is more that I find them doing action sequences to be far less believable nowadays. Hamill could maybe do it, but neither Fisher nor Ford really strikes me as making sense running around shooting at stuff.
Now, if Han was FLYING, that'd be a different story entirely...
But I also really REALLY do not want them killing off the OT heroes in the new film. To me, that seems a cheap way to go for an emotional gut-punch, and a pretty unsatisfying one at that. It'd be like, do we really need to see an Indy film where Indy gets killed just so he can hand the hat and whip over to some new character? This is why I say they should be allowed to ride off into the sunset, so to speak. Their chapter is closed, let's just move on without actually killing any of 'em on screen.
